Gu Cheng, known as Golden Eye, accepted a challenge to appraise a jade pendant after a young man called the Treasure-Hiding Studio’s stock trash. As Gu Cheng examined it, he discovered he could see its hidden information, which identified it as a supreme-grade magical artifact.
Gu Cheng discovered that he could see antiques’ hidden information and learned that the bronze pixiu in his shop was an enchanted artifact. After meeting Xie Yuchen, Gu Cheng recognized him as a figure from The Grave Robbers' Chronicles and wondered whether he had transmigrated into that story’s world.
Xie Yuchen explained to Gu Cheng that divine artifacts were hidden among ordinary antiques and that the Old Nine Gates had resources for identifying them. After Xie Yuchen left, Gu Cheng confirmed his appraisal ability worked without the jade pendant and went out to hunt for treasure.
Gu Cheng encountered Wang Kaixuan at Panjiayuan and discovered that his ancient jade pendant was the key to the Jade Eye mechanism in Jingjue Ancient City. After buying it for a hundred thousand yuan, Gu Cheng asked Wang Kaixuan whether he was from Yanbei.
Gu Cheng learned that his family had a history with the Old Nine Gates after telling his father about Xie Yuchen and the divine artifacts. Gu Sihai revealed that he and Gu Cheng’s grandfather had once ambushed an Old Nine Gates convoy and stolen a dozen artifacts, leaving Gu Cheng stunned.
Gu Cheng examined his family’s remaining divine artifacts after Gu Sihai warned him that they could magnify greed and desire. He found a cultivation technique among them and, after seeing a jade seal, continued inspecting the collection.
Gu Cheng learned that people identified divine artifacts through intuition, while their abilities usually had to be discovered through painstaking study. Since he could see an artifact’s properties at a glance, he suggested a test for the Child-Giving Guanyin statue that might grant his father’s wish for another child.
Gu Cheng identified the Little Divine Edge and Nectar Jade Pot among his father’s collected artifacts, discovering that the pot was a supreme-grade spirit artifact capable of refining spirit jade into Jade Nectar. He tried to persuade Gu Sihai to let him take three treasures for study, but his father began putting them away, leaving Gu Cheng to reveal that he had a secret.
Gu Cheng revealed that his fifth sense could identify divine artifacts and perceive their effects, then proved it by learning a cultivation method from the Dao-Passing Secret Slip. He and Gu Sihai agreed to keep the secret slip hidden, while Gu Cheng began testing the Nectar Jade Pot with aged liquor and the jade seal.
Hu Bayi returned to Yanbei and reunited with Wang Kaixuan over a hot-pot dinner, where Wang told him about selling his jade to Boss Gu of the Treasure-Hiding Studio. They planned to meet Boss Gu after Hu Bayi spent a few days exploring the city.
Gu Cheng practiced the Fetal Breathing Method, then met Hu Bayi and Wang Kaixuan to discuss the antiques trade. He left them with a question about entering tombs, unsettling Hu Bayi.
Gu Cheng tried to recruit Hu Bayi and Wang Kaixuan for a tomb-raiding team, using the promise of valuable treasures and his family history to persuade them. He ended by revealing that Hu Bayi was also an heir to the Gold-Seeking Commandants.
Gu Cheng revealed Hu Bayi’s family connection to the Gold-Seeking Commandants and explained the history of the Sixteen-Character Yin-Yang Feng Shui Secret Art. Hu Bayi was stunned by Gu Cheng’s knowledge, while Wang Kaixuan eagerly asked how to join Gu Cheng’s team.
Gu Cheng, Hu Bayi, and Wang Kaixuan agreed to work together on a tomb expedition, and Gu Cheng lent Hu Bayi seven million yuan. Seven days later, they reached the border near Ganggang Yingzi, where Hu Bayi identified a feng shui formation that might conceal a Liao empress dowager’s tomb.
Gu Cheng, Hu Bayi, and Fatty Wang arrived at Ganggang Yingzi, where Hu Bayi reunited with the villagers and the men delivered supplies. At the village chief’s home, Gu Cheng noticed that one of the pickling jars was a 1,327-year-old piece of porcelain.
Gu Cheng recognized antiques in the village and helped arrange their purchase, earning the villagers nearly four million. While visiting a mountain hunter with Hu Bayi and Fatty Wang, he discovered a magical Mountain-Splitting Axe.
Hu Bayi reunited with Yingzi and asked her to guide him, Fatty Wang, and Gu Cheng into the mountains. Yingzi joined them, and Fatty Wang accepted her father’s unusual axe after Gu Cheng told him it was a divine weapon.
Gu Cheng, Hu Bayi, and Fatty Wang followed Yingzi to the Nine Dragons Enclosing the Jade Lotus, where Hu Bayi confirmed that a great tomb lay nearby. Gu Cheng wondered why events had diverged from the story he knew as they prepared to investigate Lama Valley.
Gu Cheng accompanied Hu Bayi, Wang Kaixuan, and Yingzi to a waterfall near Oxheart Mountain, worried that Hu Bayi might find the Great Liao empress dowager’s tomb instead of the Jin general’s tomb. He spotted an unusual plant underwater and entered the freezing lake to identify it, discovering it was a powerful spirit fruit.
Gu Cheng discovered the Golden Cup Longevity Fruit underwater but faced a gigantic serpent guarding it. He wounded the serpent, grabbed the fruit, and surfaced as Hu Bayi, Wang Kaixuan, and Yingzi urged him to shore.
After Gu Cheng injured the enormous Flood Dragon Serpent, he and his companions fled the lakeshore and took shelter in a cave. There, Gu Cheng revealed that he had entered the water to retrieve the Golden Cup Longevity Fruit plant.
Gu Cheng explained the legend of the Golden Cup Longevity Fruit and wondered if the fruits had come from Empress Dowager Xiao's tomb on Oxheart Mountain. He ended the chapter with all seven fruits still in his hand and the tomb newly worth exploring.
After eating Golden Cup Longevity Fruits, Gu Cheng advanced the Fetal Breathing Method and recovered from his earlier illness, though the breakthrough left him covered in foul-smelling impurities. He told Hu Bayi, Yingzi, and Fatty Wang about his family technique, then refused Fatty Wang’s request to learn it.
Gu Cheng and his companions fled into a cave when the Flood Dragon Serpent tracked them down. They squeezed through a narrow rock crack into a sealed space, escaping the serpent by a hair.
Gu Cheng escaped the sealed crevice with Hu Bayi, Fatty Wang, and Yingzi after finding a passage through a cemented wall. They emerged into an underground fortification filled with crates marked in Japanese, and Gu Cheng suspected they had found the Kwantung Army Fortress.
