Background / History

Origins of the Species

The Pineleaf Squirrel clan originally lived outside the Beast Taming Sect, in a harsh habitat with many predators and little chance of awakening intelligence. An ancestor sought instruction from an immortal on Heavenly Capital Peak, who required it to leap there from Cloud-Tilling Peak. The squirrel never succeeded and eventually became a rock in a leaping pose 42.

Moved by its persistence, the immortal brought the clan into the sect and improved its bloodline, enabling Pineleaf Squirrels to become one of the sect’s Five Basic Spirit Beasts. The guardian deity’s promise remains open to any Pineleaf Squirrel that completes the crossing 42.

Selection by Lin Jing

Lin Jing’s Pineleaf Squirrel was born and raised in the Beast Taming Sect, where both its parents remained. Although regarded as a once-in-a-decade talent, it fell behind its peers because it hid its monthly resources instead of consuming them. Its talent earned it a second opportunity to be selected rather than being released into Pine Forest Peak 4 11.

Lin Jing chose it because its wood-element, life-oriented abilities suited his Longevity Body and cautious cultivation plans. His warning about slow cultivation initially alarmed it, but promises of a Storage Bag and eventually larger Storage Rings won its approval. It joined him with dozens of saved low-grade Spirit Stones, entrusting those savings to his care 4.

Appearance

  • General build: Resembles an ordinary squirrel, with soft, lustrous fur and fine pale-yellow stripes 4.
  • Eyes: Emerald green, described as resembling forest leaves intertwined with morning light; their color deepens after the bloodline contract 4 6.
  • Divine-ability manifestation: Its eyes shine like jade and project green beams when activating Glazed Immortal Eyes 9.
  • Clothing: Wears a miniature white Daoist robe during the Dragonbone Flower synthesis and is later seen cultivating in Daoist robes on Lin Jing’s shoulder 26 30 41.

Personality

Hoarding is its defining obsession. It begins saving Spirit Stones shortly after birth and associates full storage with security. Initially, it values quantity so strongly that turning one hundred ordinary rice grains into one superior grain makes it cry. By the time it reaches the seventh layer of Qi Refining, a bag packed with combat trump cards matters more to it than reaching the ninth layer 8 9 29.

Its priorities change without eliminating that obsession. After discovering the strength of Red Flying Leaves, it willingly spends Spirit Stones and pills to cultivate and manufacture weapons. It treats those expenditures as an investment in winning larger rewards, rather than continuing to hoard resources that cannot directly help it fight 20.

It is patient and industrious when working toward a desired reward, repeatedly farming, gathering leaves, and cutting bamboo despite exhaustion. It nevertheless has firm limits: when Lin Jing proposes making it breathe fire for alchemy, it grabs its Storage Bag and tries to leave 9 14 16 39.

Its confidence in its weapon stockpile contrasts with an inherited fear of natural predators. Lin Jing’s giant-weasel illusion initially leaves it disoriented and reaching for its gun; afterward, it stubbornly denies having been frightened. Repeated training eventually steadies its mind 46.

Abilities & Skills

Wood-Element Plant Cultivation

Its innate wood-aspected spiritual power accelerates plant growth 6.

  • Nearly matures a Spirit Rice Paddy in less than half the time an ordinary third-level Pineleaf Squirrel would require 9.
  • Its efficiency is attributed to unusually pure spiritual power, patience, and consistent work—not a confirmed special farming physique 9.
  • Repeatedly ripening crops tempers its spiritual power even when it is not cultivating through ordinary energy absorption 9.
  • Its talent makes it a prospective alchemy assistant or cultivator of high-grade spirit fields, prompting recruitment offers from Cinnabar Glow Peak and Verdant Crest Peak 38.

Glazed Immortal Eyes

Its treasure-beast divine ability combines quantities of the same resource into a higher-grade resource with different properties 9 17.

Input Synthesized result Demonstrated effect
One hundred grains of Spirit Rice One golden grain of Spirit Rice Produces intense hunger and greatly accelerates digestion and nutrient absorption, allowing ordinary rice to be rapidly converted into strength 9.
Tens of thousands of ordinary leaves One Red Flying Leaf Creates a reusable cutting weapon that the squirrel can steer and recall 10.
More than one hundred Spirit Beans One green Spirit Bean Explodes in the Black Bear Monster’s mouth; subsequently stockpiled as Spirit Beans Bombs 17 20.
Ten stalks of spirit bamboo One blue stalk Fires a high-pressure stream of water strong enough to throw Lin Jing into his house 23.
About one hundred Dragonbone Flowers One purple Dragonbone Flower Successfully synthesized with Elder Black Bear’s power-amplifying robe; tested on a captured Rat Demon 26.
  • Resource restriction: Testing establishes that it can synthesize only plant-related resources at its current stage. The inherited description mentions turning stones into treasure gems, but that application is not demonstrated 9 19.
  • Power requirement: Dragonbone Flowers initially exceed its unaided ability; the borrowed robe enables synthesis without eye strain 26.
  • Fatigue: Heavy or repeated use causes aching eyes and mental exhaustion. Lin Jing’s Spirit-Nurturing Art helps relieve the strain 10.
  • Uncertain results: Lin Jing still wishes the ability included appraisal, indicating that the effects of new creations are not automatically clear to them 46.

Flying Leaf Technique and Red-Leaf Control

The species’ basic Flying Leaf Technique reinforces a leaf with spiritual power and launches it as a straight-line projectile. Synthesized Red Flying Leaves substantially improve both its destructive power and control 6 10.

  • Steers Red Flying Leaves freely and recalls them after launching 10.
  • Cuts through stone, iron, and tough spirit bamboo; an ordinary bamboo leaf barely nicks the same bamboo 10 11 16.
  • Controls ten Red Leaves simultaneously at the fifth layer of Qi Refining through a special mental bond with its creations 25.
  • Rides a sufficiently large Red Leaf through the air 42 48.
  • Other beasts do not share its bond with the synthesized leaves and therefore cannot reproduce its effortless control 25.
  • Control depends on mental strength. Its early performance relies heavily on the Red Leaves’ properties, leaving substantial room for improvement through training 45.

Leaf Plucking Flower

An upgraded Flying Leaf Technique developed beneath the Silver Bodhi Tree. It sends a Red Flying Leaf into a Storage Bag and brings stored items out when the leaf reappears 37.

  • Demonstrated by spilling Spirit Stones from the Snowfield cultivator’s Storage Bag while Lin Jing holds it 37.
  • Comprehended through repeatedly taking a Red Leaf out of a Storage Bag and putting it back 37.
  • Initially disappoints the squirrel because it wants the opponent’s entire bag and worries about damaging its own storage equipment 37.

Mechanical-Weapon Use

The squirrel supplements its leaves with Lin Jing’s mechanical weapons 34 46.

  • Uses a Mechanism Bamboo Gun to knock away a Heavenly Sword Sect swordsman’s real sword amid nine sword shadows 34.
  • Carries a Mechanism Water Gun and attempts to use it to help the White Rat Spirit suffering from extreme chili heat 46.
  • Reaches instinctively for its gun when frightened, leading Lin Jing to confiscate its weapons during mental training 46.

Bloodline Contract and Cultivation Feedback

Its contract with Lin Jing creates a shared connection and allows its cultivation advances to benefit him 6 17.

  • Its fourth-layer breakthrough supplies the feedback that raises Lin Jing to the second layer of Qi Refining 17.
  • Lin Jing can use the contract to stop it from firing at him during an illusion-induced panic 46.
  • Becoming a treasure beast grants a divine ability but does not upgrade its racial bloodline. It remains spirit-level; king-level evolution during Foundation Establishment is a future goal, not an achieved advancement 30 41.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Red Flying Leaves — Synthesized weapons used for cutting, harvesting, aerial combat, and flight 10 16 34 48.
  • Spirit Beans Bombs — Synthesized explosive ammunition. Elder Yu accidentally expends its stored supply while firing the Mechanism Bamboo Gun 20 28.
  • Miniature Storage Bag — Promised by Elder Black Bear for synthesizing Dragonbone Flowers; offers one cubic meter of space and is later delivered and filled completely 26 29.
  • Snowfield cultivator’s Storage Bag — In its possession by the end of Bodhi Heaven; used to demonstrate Leaf Plucking Flower 37.
  • White Daoist robe — Elder Black Bear lends a shrinking magic artifact that amplifies magical power, including wood spiritual power, then takes it back after synthesis 26.
  • Cooling bamboo leaves — Soaked in blue Spirit Bamboo water and placed over its eyes to ease discomfort after using Glazed Immortal Eyes 27.
  • Hanging Gourd — Lin Jing’s life-bound spatial treasure, used as the squirrel’s home and expanded storage space 47 48.

Relationships

  • Lin Jing — Beast tamer and bloodline-contract partner. Their mutual dependence deepens over months; he supports its recovery, manages its training, and plans its future bloodline evolution 6 10 29 41 46.
  • Elder Mo — Introduces it to Lin Jing, confirms its treasure-beast mutation, provides cultivation support, and facilitates their spatial-treasure application and pagoda trial 4 17 19 46 49.
  • Elder Black Bear — Commissions resource synthesis, lends the robe needed for Dragonbone Flowers, and supplies its miniature Storage Bag 26 29.
  • Elder Yu — Its synthesized materials support Lin Jing’s Mechanism Art. After accidentally using its hoarded ammunition, he compensates the pair with an Elder’s Token for free meals 23 28.
  • Ouyang Hao — Advises Lin Jing about its Foundation Establishment and bloodline evolution, explains the guardian deity’s promise, and rescues it after its first failed flying crossing 41 42 44.
  • Parents — Both remain within the Beast Taming Sect, where the squirrel was born and raised 11.
