Background and Origins

Supernatural creatures originate from ordinary plants and animals that awaken extraordinary abilities. Nonliving features such as mountains and rivers can also produce supernatural creatures, including “special-type” beasts such as Sea Wave Flower. A creature becomes a Contract Beast when it forms a contract with a Beast Tamer 1 15.

Early Beast Tamers primarily contracted wild creatures that had awakened, making acquisition heavily dependent on luck. As supernatural creatures became recognized as distinct species and fewer new types appeared, breeding became the main source of suitable beasts. Their reproduction is more difficult than that of ordinary animals, keeping suitable Contract Beasts relatively scarce 2.

Classification

Attributes

• The ten major attributes are water, fire, earth, wind, lightning, ice, light, darkness, psychic, and fighting 14.
• Attribute affects combat abilities, food selection, and suitable care. Purple Cloud receives lightning-type feline food, while the Steel-Armored Rhino is housed in an earth-type environment 17 35.

Species Rank

• All newly awakened and newborn supernatural creatures begin as Commander Species, even when their parents have a higher Species Rank 7.
• Higher Species Ranks provide stronger skills and a higher maximum Growth Rank 7.
• Evolution raises Species Rank. Evolving from Commander Species to Monarch Species permits growth beyond Commander Rank into Marshal Rank 33.
• Failed evolution can cripple or kill a beast; Zhang Yun warns against attempting it without confidence in success 33.

Size

Size categories reflect the scale of supernatural creatures rather than ordinary pets 5.

Abilities & Skills

Beast Taming Contract

The contract connects a supernatural creature to its Beast Tamer and enables summoning, communication, and coordinated combat 1 7 12.

• Summoning: Tamers can summon their Contract Beasts to their side anytime and anywhere through the contract 1.
• Communication: Xu Ran can understand Purple Cloud after contracting her. Both his commands and her messages can reach the other’s mind through the bond 7 12 42.
• Power feedback: Forming a contract strengthens the tamer’s physique beyond that of an ordinary person, though it does not make the tamer a substitute for the beast in combat 6 7.
• Contract limits: First-tier contract power supports one Transcendent Rank beast. Xu Ran needs second-tier power both to contract a second beast and to allow Purple Cloud’s Elite Rank breakthrough 7 30 40.
• Tamer ranking: A Beast Tamer’s level corresponds to the highest Growth Rank among their Contract Beasts 33.

Skill Ratings and Proficiency

Skills have separate measures for inherent potential and practiced mastery 6 7.

• Skill use increases proficiency. Purple Cloud’s initial tests add one point each to Electric Spark, Electric Arc, and Bite 7.
• Skills are not limited to attacks: Electric Arc increases movement speed, while Self-Healing supports recovery 7 17 21.
• Advanced proficiency can make a skill particularly formidable. The Elite Rank Coldscale Python uses Crescent-level Ice Storm to drive back attacking birds 32.

Training

Training develops both technique and overall strength 18 19.

• Skill training: Repeated practice improves proficiency. Repeatedly expending and restoring power also stimulates potential and accelerates growth 18 19.
• Combat training: Fighting other supernatural creatures develops practical battle experience 18.
• Command coordination: Training can assess how accurately and promptly a beast follows its tamer’s instructions 38.
• Limits: Restoring stamina does not remove every source of fatigue; Purple Cloud becomes mentally exhausted after her potion-supported training session 20 21.

System-Assisted Development

Xu Ran’s Pet Beast Boarding System provides additional methods of strengthening his own Contract Beasts 1 26.

• Fur Plucking: Grooming another beast has a chance to yield one of its skills, which Xu Ran can teach to a compatible contracted beast 1 49.
• Single-use teaching: Each acquired skill is consumed when taught. Purple Cloud learns Claw Edge and Self-Healing this way 8 17.
• Compatibility: Not every obtained skill has a suitable recipient. Ice Storm and Rock Spike cannot be taught to Purple Cloud 26 49.
• Skill Fusion Stones: Can combine skills into a stronger skill, but fusion may fail. Purple Cloud’s Bite and Claw Edge are replaced by the two-star Combat Instinct 27 28.
• Drugging: Feeding fostered beasts generates Constitution Points that Xu Ran can allocate to his own beasts’ Growth Rank progress 26 36.
• Stamina Potions: Provide three hours of inexhaustible stamina. During their effect, Blood Rage’s subsequent weakness is greatly reduced 16 29.

Behavior and Welfare

Contract Beasts have individual temperaments rather than a uniform disposition. The Wind Lion Dog is affectionate toward Liu Gu despite its ferocity in battle, the Blazing Fox becomes jealous when Su Xiaoxiao admires Purple Cloud, and Sea Wave Flower’s apparent aloofness stems from distress over dirt inside its body 4 11 16.

Their bonds require care beyond combat training. Tan Qingsheng penalizes Duan Anxun for forcing her injured Rainbow Cloud Parrot to continue a test for a higher score. The Shadow-Hunting Lizard becomes distressed after Zhou Hao chooses to keep his more valuable Brilliant Dragon Sparrow and sends the lizard away for long-term boarding 39 50.

• Elite Rank beasts can display considerable intelligence; higher-tier supernatural creatures may approach human intelligence 4 5.
• Multiple contracted beasts may become jealous or fail to coexist peacefully, making mediation part of a tamer’s responsibility 30 50.
• Emotional distress affects Xu Ran’s services: the unhappy Rainbow Cloud Parrot yields unusually few Happiness Points during grooming 24.

Care and Boarding

Grooming

Grooming cleans and conditions different bodies, including fur, feathers, scales, and special-type forms 5 11 16 49.

• Xu Ran explains that grooming does not directly improve skills; better physical and emotional condition can instead allow a beast to perform beyond its usual level 21.
• Liu Gu observes this improved condition in the Wind Lion Dog’s battlefield performance 23.
• Grooming methods vary by both body type and attribute. The system supplies Xu Ran with separate bird-type and wind-type grooming knowledge 11.

Accommodation and Feeding

Contract Beasts normally live with their tamers; boarding shops care for those whose owners cannot house or accompany them 1.

• Boarding requires room for free movement, not merely an enclosure large enough to contain the beast. Even a small beast may need at least a dozen square meters, with more space for exercise or special needs 34.
• Large beasts consume more food, cost more to maintain, and are harder to house 30.
• Ordinary food meets daily needs; heavy energy expenditure may require more valuable recovery resources 17.
• Feeding schedules vary from multiple small meals each day to intervals of ten days or a fortnight 37.
• Starfire’s underground boarding facility can reshape its environment to suit residents. Its Control Hub can also separate beasts to prevent contact 35 47 49.

At Starfire, strength determines feeding cost, while size determines space requirements 34.
