In truth, plenty of people would probably find this disgusting just hearing about it. Some would throw up if they actually saw it.
There was a palm-sized wound on the gazelle's hind leg, near its rump. The wound had festered, and flies circled it, occasionally landing to take a bite.
That was nothing. The most disgusting part was the center of the wound, where the flesh had rotted away. A dense, tightly packed mass of maggots writhed inside... Anyone with trypophobia would probably faint at the sight.

Tao Daqiang stopped there too.
Li Long froze for only a second before drawing the machete he had brought. He stepped up to the gazelle and, with two cuts, sliced away the wound on its rear along with the rotting flesh, then flung it far away.

Li Long reckoned it weighed over twenty kilos. It was a little thin, probably worn down by its injury over the past while.
"What bit that gazelle?" Li Qingxia asked Li Long, sounding rather excited.
"Probably a wolf or something else. Smaller things couldn't get a bite into a gazelle. A wolf's the most likely."
After saying that, Li Long turned and asked his father:
"Dad, you saw it too. Maggots had gotten into the meat. You don't mind?"
"What's there to mind?" Li Qingxia said with a smile. "How could I turn my nose up at meat? Didn't you cut away the bit with the maggots?... Besides, these days, we're lucky to have meat at all. Back home, people were starving terribly a few years ago. Never mind fresh meat-we even
