Yunhai wasn't far from Luo City, just in the neighboring province.
Chen Fan and Guo Shuai took a long-distance bus, leaving at eight thirty in the morning and arriving in Yunhai before noon.
The moment they stepped out of the station, they were stunned by the sea of people before them.
Besides the endless stream of travelers, buses sent by various universities to pick up new students were everywhere.
Guo Shuai was lucky. He spotted the banner for the third-tier university he had enrolled in at a glance.
When he saw that more than half the students welcoming the freshmen were girls, and beautiful ones at that,
Guo Shuai immediately perked up.
All his exhaustion from the journey vanished.
He grabbed Chen Fan and said excitedly, "Buddy, choosing this university was the best decision I ever made."
"Say no more. Just wait for my good news."
"As soon as I get settled, I'll come find you."
With that, Guo Shuai waved to the girls across from him.
"Hi! I'm a freshman here to register."
The older students were very welcoming and even offered to carry Guo Shuai's luggage.
Their enthusiasm left Guo Shuai feeling rather flattered.
Before boarding the bus, he made sure to wink at Chen Fan.
"Girls in big cities really are more forward."
"I'm heading off first, buddy. You'll have to register on your own."
Faced with this guy who forgot his friends the instant he saw a pretty girl, Chen Fan could only smile and wave.
After saying goodbye to Guo Shuai, Chen Fan continued on alone, wearing his backpack and pulling his suitcase.
He scanned the banners of the nearby universities.
At last, he found the banner for Cloudsea University.
There were only four students there, two men and two women.
The older students were fairly welcoming. When they heard that Chen Fan had come to register alone, one of the men immediately stood up and helped wheel his suitcase onto the bus.
"Have a seat here and rest for a bit. We'll leave as soon as the bus fills up."
Chen Fan quickly nodded. "Thanks."
The young man smiled and asked, "You're from out of town, right?"
"Huh?"
"Want to buy a phone card?"
Chen Fan paused, then shook his head.
"Not right now, thanks."
The young man said nothing more, turning and stepping off the bus.
The phone cards he meant were IC calling cards, usually with thirty, fifty, or a hundred yuan of credit.
Whenever someone wanted to make a call, they only needed to insert the card into a landline phone.
Chen Fan felt a little nostalgic. Selling phone cards to university students really was an enduring business.
In a few more years, these students would be selling SIM cards to freshmen instead.
After about half an hour, freshmen and parents had filled roughly two-thirds of the seats.
An older female student wearing a sun hat boarded and sat in the front row.
"Driver, we can go now."
The bus set off. The freshmen aboard were all visibly excited, full of anticipation and dreams of university life.
Although this was his second time attending university, Chen Fan was still caught up in their mood and began to feel excited himself.
Sitting by the window near the back, Chen Fan watched the scenery rush past.
He knew Yunhai all too well.
In his previous life, he had spent four years at university here. His relationship with Su Ruochu, his first business venture, and the beginnings of his business empire had all started in Yunhai.
It was fair to say that no one understood how Yunhai would change over the next decade or two better than Chen Fan.
He knew it even better than Luo City, where he had been born.
Watching the scenery flash past the window, Chen Fan took a deep breath.
His career... would begin in this city.
The bus drove into Cloudsea University.
The entire campus was already teeming with people.
Sun umbrellas lined both sides of the main campus road.
The various departments had put up banners and brought out tables and chairs to create temporary registration stations for freshmen.
Besides those, university clubs had also taken the opportunity to set up along the road, promoting themselves and recruiting new members.
Looking down the main road from the entrance, rows of banners and colorful sun umbrellas stretched side by side into what seemed like infinity. It was an impressive sight.
The road was already packed with freshmen who had come from all over the country to register.
With experience on his side, Chen Fan didn't waste time looking around. He pulled his suitcase straight to the freshman registration station for the School of Economics and Management.
He checked in, signed his name, and collected the freshman admission instructions and registration procedure sheet.
Once again, he turned down an older student's phone-card sales pitch.
Chen Fan quickly dragged his suitcase out of the crowded main road, found a quieter route, and headed toward the dormitory area.
Although he hadn't attended Cloudsea University in his previous life,
he had visited it often while dating Su Ruochu.
He knew every building on campus very well.
The library, the information building, Knowledge-Seeking Bridge, Love Slope, Yearning Lake...
Looking at those familiar places, Chen Fan couldn't help smiling.
Everything felt so familiar and welcoming.
As he passed the teaching buildings, Chen Fan noticed that several were still under construction.
The basketball arena and Building Seven that he remembered had only just begun construction at this point.
Taking in the scenery and reminiscing along the way delayed him a little.
Relying on his memory, Chen Fan found Dormitory Eight on his own.
He hauled his suitcase up to the third floor.
Just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, two older female students came down the stairs in loose nightdresses, carrying washbasins, their hair still wet.
Startled, Chen Fan hurriedly turned away.
"S-sorry. Am I in the wrong building?"
"Is this Dormitory Eight?"
Seeing how embarrassed he looked, both young women giggled.
"What a cute little freshman."
"Which school are you in?"
Chen Fan stood sideways with his head lowered, not daring to look at either of them.
Since the two young women had just showered, however, a faint scent of body wash still drifted from them.
It smelled lovely.
"I... I'm a first-year marketing student in the School of Economics and Management."
"Hehe, then you're in the right place."
One of them, a young woman with long hair, explained with a smile.
"Our university admitted too many freshmen this year, and the new dormitory building isn't finished yet."
"So they reassigned the dorms. The female graduate students who used to live in Building Eight were moved out."
"I heard they reserved the rooms for the new marketing students from the School of Economics and Management."
Chen Fan listened, dumbfounded.
"They can do that?"
The two girls studied Chen Fan with amused smiles.
"The entire first and second floors have been assigned to freshmen, but only half of the third floor."
As she spoke, the long-haired beauty pointed.
"See that iron door down the corridor? Beyond it are the women's rooms. This side is reserved for you freshmen."
"Don't go over there without permission."
Chen Fan looked blankly at her.
"Doesn't that make this a coed dorm?"
"It's only temporary. Once the new men's dorm is finished, they'll move you over there."
Seeing his conflicted expression, the long-haired student couldn't resist asking with a smile,
"What? You're not happy about living with beautiful women?"
"Don't tell me you're afraid we'll eat you alive."
Chen Fan glanced at her.
Who eats whom remains to be seen.
Apparently finding Chen Fan rather handsome, she couldn't resist teasing him.
"Do you have a girlfriend, little freshman? Want me to introduce you to someone?"
"What kind of girls do you like? A nice figure or long legs? Slim or curvy? Tall or busty?"
"Just tell me your criteria, and I'll find you someone who fits."
Chen Fan hurriedly waved his hands.
"Please don't. I'm not that kind of guy."
