"Kid, I really don't like that look in your eyes. Want to bite me?" GS pointed his gun at the head of one of Uncle Hing's men and walked toward him.
He kicked him in the crotch.
The man clutched his crotch and dropped to his knees, his head pressed against the floor.
"Still acting tough with a gun pointed at you? You're a real badass."
GS turned his gun on the second man, who immediately lowered his head.
"Can't even look at me? Got a guilty conscience?"
He kicked him in the crotch.
The second man clutched his crotch and fell to his knees.
GS looked at the third man. Sweat covered his forehead as he tried to make his eyes look meek and harmless, forcing a faint smile onto his face.
"If your smile's that ugly, don't smile!"
GS kicked him in the crotch.
"Uncle Hing! Uncle Hing!" One of the men downstairs knocked several times on the door, perhaps having heard the noise.
"Come in," GS said.
The moment the man opened the door, Silly Fook dragged him inside. GS landed a roundhouse kick to his head, knocking him out cold.
GS pulled over a chair and sat down in front of Uncle Hing.
He picked up his Big Brother Phone and called Big-Eyed Hua.
"Invite Uncle Hing's young master over for a visit. Give him good food, good drinks, and a good time. Make sure he's properly looked after. While you're at it, book a plot at Bau Fu Shan. Doesn't have to be too big, just enough for a family of three."
Bau Fu Shan was a cemetery.
Uncle Hing had never imagined this LS would be so bold, so utterly reckless.
"You don't follow the rules," Uncle Hing said through gritted teeth.
"Whose rules? Did anyone ask me? Did I agree? Around here, I make the rules." GS sneered, looking down at Uncle Hing.
"I showed you every courtesy, and you still threw it back in my face. Isn't that your fault? I wanted to show you some respect, Uncle Hing, but you just had to force my hand."
"I want that position. Do you agree or not? Think carefully before you answer."
"My nomination won't do you any good. This isn't something I can decide, and you're too junior. The others won't agree either." Looking at GS's brazen face, Uncle Hing felt a chill in his heart. His tone finally softened.
He had no doubt that this newly risen brute would kill him without the slightest hesitation.
The man cared nothing for the rules. He was reckless enough to do anything.
"That's my problem. You don't need to worry about it. But you'll need to help me persuade a few of the other bosses too," GS said.
He wasn't trying to take the position immediately. He was just laying the groundwork.
Once Chan Ho-nam botched things, it would be his turn to take over.
"I can only try. If it doesn't work, I can put you in touch with a few of them, and you can persuade them yourself," Uncle Hing said after a long silence.
"Fine." GS nodded.
"Can you call your men off now?" Uncle Hing asked through gritted teeth.
"Don't worry, Uncle Hing. I'm just inviting your son over to see a bit of the world. Kids can't spend all their time in school. It'll turn them into idiots."
"Once this is over, he'll come home. I guarantee he'll be safe and sound, without a hair on his head harmed."
"See? Wouldn't it have been better to do this from the start?" GS leaned forward, pulled Uncle Hing to his feet, and dusted him off. "Look at the state of you. Anyone who didn't know better would think I'd beaten you."
"You need to be more careful at your age."
GS looked at Uncle Hing and added seriously, "Even Big B couldn't take me down."
"You're about to retire. Why risk your life? Wouldn't it be better to enjoy your golden years and watch your son grow up, get married, and have kids?"
"Don't worry. I won't talk," Uncle Hing said, swallowing his anger.
"What about those three?" GS pointed at the men. "Want me to dispose of them for you?"
"Don't do anything rash. They won't talk," Uncle Hing said at once.
"That's right! I definitely won't talk!" one of the underlings hurriedly cried. The other two were in too much pain to straighten up, but they nodded repeatedly.
"Arrange a boat. Send them to Thailand for a few months of fun," GS said.
"Fine. I'll arrange it myself," Uncle Hing said.
"Then thank you, Uncle Hing." GS's warmth returned, with no trace of his earlier viciousness.
GS waited until Big-Eyed Hua called to confirm that he had brought Uncle Hing's son back, then said, "Let the young master say hello to Uncle Hing."
He handed the Big Brother Phone straight to Uncle Hing.
Hearing his son's voice over the phone, Uncle Hing gave up all hope.
"You can have fun over there, but don't forget your homework. And don't pick up any bad habits," Uncle Hing instructed him, holding the Big Brother Phone.
The information GS had gathered earlier was correct. Uncle Hing doted on his youngest son.
After all, the youngest son was usually the most spoiled.
Besides, his eldest son was a lawyer in Maple Leaf Country and didn't even come home once a year. He wasn't particularly close to Uncle Hing.
A moment later, GS took back the Big Brother Phone, stood, and headed outside.
"Contact the other bosses. I'll put up the money, but no more than this much per person." GS pointed at the bag.
When Big D ran for leadership of Wo Shing Wo, he had only given each elder two hundred thousand.
And that had been for the top position in Wo Shing Wo.
GS was only running to be the Causeway Bay Boss.
Of course, the people he wanted to contact were bosses of other districts, all still in power. They weren't comparable to Wo Shing Wo's retired elders.
"I'm heading back. Keep in touch."
Watching GS leave with his men, Uncle Hing clenched his fists, then relaxed them after a long while.
GS had been right about one thing. He was about to retire. Why risk his life now?
Besides, his youngest son was still in GS's hands.
If he failed to kill GS, then with the man's vicious ways, his whole family would surely be reunited in the grave.
Forget it. Better to retire in peace and enjoy my remaining years.
When GS went downstairs, he saw Ah Tung leaning by the entrance, smoking. Two of Uncle Hing's men lay on the stairs, blood pooling beneath them.
"How did this happen?"
"They realized something was wrong and tried to make a call," Ah Tung said, tossing away his cigarette butt.
Upstairs, Uncle Hing had just made his peace with things when he saw GS return.
Two of the men left downstairs were being dragged behind him.
"What do you want now?" Uncle Hing clutched his chest. He felt as though his heart was giving out.
"A little accident. But since they're already like this, why don't I dispose of them for you?"
A chill ran through Uncle Hing. This LS was far too ruthless.
There were plenty of gangsters who loved fighting and throwing their weight around, but very few were as vicious as him.
"Are they dead?"
"Still breathing." GS nudged them with the tip of his shoe.
"I'll handle it."
"Just remembered. My branch in Causeway Bay is opening soon. Make sure you come show your support, Uncle Hing. There's also some work I need your men to help with." At the doorway, GS suddenly turned back to speak.
This time, GS really left.
"Brother S, what if that old bastard goes back on his word?" On the way back, Silly Fook finally voiced the question troubling him.
He thought GS should have left him with the old man to stop him from trying anything.
"He won't dare. The older you get, the less nerve you have. Besides, how many people make it to sixty in good health? If he didn't know when to back down, someone would've beaten him to death long ago. He definitely knows which way the wind blows," GS said casually.
There was something else he left unsaid: at worst, he could slaughter a bunch of people and flee. What did he have to fear?
He had arrived with nothing, and in such a short time, he had already built all this from scratch.
If he really screwed it all up, he could always start over somewhere else.
