Background / History
Before transmigrating, Gu Sheng had trained in boxing for several years. At a boxing gym in America, he encountered a Bajiquan practitioner whose explosive punch left a lasting impression on him 8.
The original owner of his new body had entered Hong Kong illegally with his mother after his father settled in Yuen Long. Both parents later died in a textile-factory fire, leaving him a cramped, approximately 160-square-foot apartment. Officer Wei persuaded him to leave the police academy and become an undercover officer 2 8.
Gu Sheng awakens in Hong Kong in 1982 with the original owner’s memories. He discovers that he is both a poorly paid Hongxing underling and an undercover policeman—and that his predecessor has been sleeping with his boss Ah Sin’s wife. Rather than embrace either profession, he initially wants to exploit the era’s opportunities to make money 1.
Appearance
- Young, handsome, and tall: His appearance earns him the nickname Handsome Sheng and makes him a particularly popular customer with Liu Piaopiao and Fanny 7 13.
- Cropped hairstyle: Replaces the original owner’s side part with a short crop and clean-shaved sides 9.
- Fighter’s conditioning: Wheel upgrades give him increasingly defined muscles and prominent Muay Thai calluses 3 8 22.
- Distinctive suits: Wears an orange-red suit for his Red Pole initiation and later acquires a fitted blue pinstriped protective suit 16 31.
Personality
Gu Sheng is ambitious, money-driven, and openly contemptuous of poorly rewarded work. His plan is to climb the gang hierarchy, accumulate wealth, and eventually go legitimate. He retains his police identity partly because it may prove useful, rather than out of unwavering commitment to law enforcement 1 6 8.
He is ruthless about removing threats and securing leverage. He murders Ah Sin’s wife after pretending to help her escape, then forces Kong Sang to kill her attacker so that she cannot easily expose him. His claims of being a decent person repeatedly contrast with his coercion and violence 4 5.
Proud and quick-tempered, he refuses to tolerate insults. He also rejects fair-play conventions: vehicles, concealed firearms, surprise attacks, and attacks to vulnerable areas are all acceptable if they produce a faster victory. His willingness to spar does not change his preference for a gun in a genuine confrontation 7 10 37 38.
His generosity is practical rather than unconditional. He rewards useful followers, gives recruits opportunities based on ability, and creates well-paid legitimate jobs, but also threatens employees and allies when they resist him. He refuses to enter drug trafficking because it would compromise his future and bring Officer Wei down on him 23 31 36 38 49.
Abilities & Skills
Reward Wheel
A mental reward system exchanges money for randomized items, skill manuals, and experience books 1 3.
- Initial pricing: 10,000 per draw; the early ten-pull includes a guaranteed two-star reward 1 3.
- Second-tier pricing: 100,000 per draw, with a guaranteed three-star reward in every ten-pull. Another hundred draws would unlock the third tier; that advancement is not shown 22.
- Instant learning: Manuals supply knowledge directly, while experience books deepen expertise and can physically condition his body without ordinary training 3.
- Mental storage: Drawn items can be summoned and returned at will; ordinary objects cannot be stored 3.
- Untraceable origin: System-generated weapons have no provenance investigators can follow 31.
- Secrecy risk: After an underling notices a blade apparently materializing, Gu Sheng decides to reserve that trick for critical moments 13.
Physical Conditioning
His latest documented Physique is 7.9, compared with 4–5 for an ordinary adult man 3 31.
- The rating combines physical attributes rather than measuring strength alone; equal ratings can still conceal differences in speed, strength, or endurance 3.
- At Physique 7.5, he overwhelmingly outclasses Chan Ho-nam, whose rating he estimates at approximately 5.6–6 23.
- Lower-level skills provide little additional conditioning once his body is already well developed 31.
- His strength is not limitless: he dismisses the idea that he could personally fight a hundred opponents 38.
Muay Thai and Boxing
Muay Thai is his principal source of physical improvement, while boxing contributes footwork and distance control 8 31.
- Uses kicks, knees, elbows, and evasive movement to defeat Chan Ho-nam and repel his followers 23.
- Possesses system-supplied experience applicable to both street fighting and ring bouts 23.
- Recognizes technical weaknesses such as poor distance judgment, slow footwork, oversized movements, and inadequate resistance to strikes 23.
Bajiquan
Bajiquan Fundamentals teaches both unarmed combat and multiple weapon disciplines. Its core is the Six Harmonies Big Spear, whose power-generation principles also inform its hand techniques 31.
- Includes spear, saber, staff, and sword methods alongside stance work and power training 31.
- Favors explosive close-range attacks, particularly stamping on an opponent’s foot before striking with an elbow 31.
- Uses Fierce Tiger Climbs the Mountain and Heart-Piercing Elbow against Shark Yan 37.
- Requires more experience than his other skills: advancing from LV1 to LV2 costs 200 experience rather than 100 31.
- Proposes a spear duel in an alley, prompting Shark Yan to surrender because the confined space would prevent him from closing the distance 37.
Blade Fighting and Firearms
- Filipino Stick Fighting LV3: Provides techniques derived from blade fighting, suitable for using two blades 12.
- Shooting LV3: Receives shooting knowledge and experience directly from the Wheel 3 22.
- Concealed weapon tactics: Summons a pistol to distract Flyboy Kun, kills him with a blade, then replaces the gun with shampoo 10.
- Practical limits: Avoids firing during the Tung Sing battle because anti-triad officers are watching nearby 10.
Film Knowledge and Intelligence
Gu Sheng recognizes that the setting combines characters and situations from multiple Hong Kong films, though his recollection is incomplete 1 12 16.
- Identifies Liu Piaopiao from King of Comedy, confirming that the world extends beyond Young and Dangerous 12.
- Anticipates the conflict involving Ba Bi, Big B, Teem-Kwan, and the Macau assignment as a potential route to promotion 22.
- Supplies Officer Wei with a likely hiding area for armored-truck robbers; the resulting operation recovers the cash and captures most of them 26 30.
Business and Organization
- Establishes Golden Harvest Properties as a rental and sales agency, turning gang manpower toward legitimate employment 16 17.
- Uses branded vehicles for advertising and transporting customers to property viewings 18 19.
- Sets up an independent boxing gym and assigns recruits training and recruitment duties 24.
- Holds LV1 skills in English, Japanese, piano, guitar, and cooking 22 31.

- Grenades — Acquired through second-tier draws 31.
- Blue pinstriped protective suit — A three-star carbon-nanotube garment resistant to bullets, stabbing, and cutting. It does not eliminate impact trauma; a stopped bullet may still break bones, and rifle protection remains uncertain 31.

- Uncle Hing — Helps obtain backing for Gu Sheng’s Causeway Bay candidacy and supports the opening of his flagship store; Gu Sheng eventually takes his seat 37 38 42.
- Shark Yan — Skilled martial artist recruited through threats and an unfavorable proposed duel. Gu Sheng gives him housing, a car, and charge of the boxing gym, then defeats him in sparring 37 38.
- Chen Dong / Ah Dong, Mantis, Ah Yong, and Ah Bo — Recruits accepted after beating Madman Fai and being assessed at the gym 23 24.
- Fu Gen / Silly Fook — Physically imposing young recruit who asks to follow him after witnessing his victory over Chan Ho-nam 24.
- Ann — Arranges for her to stay with him for a year, provides money and housing, and later tells her to move closer and take classes suited to accompanying him socially 36 42.
- Fat Lai — Prospective business partner in a Causeway Bay bar; Gu Sheng agrees to provide manpower for a share of the profits 49.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Ah Sin’s Murder and the Tung Sing War
Gu Sheng turns the danger surrounding his predecessor’s affair into an opportunity for advancement. After killing Ah Sin and his wife, he promotes the claim that she conspired with Thunderclap Tiger, encouraging Hongxing’s men toward revenge while concealing his own responsibility 2 4 6.
Under Big B, he receives command of Long-Haired Kit’s former followers and another hundred men. His vehicle-assisted ambush kills Flyboy Kun and Xu Fei and scatters Tung Sing’s reinforcements. Killing Piglet Ming afterward establishes Quick-Blade Sheng’s reputation throughout Yuen Long 9 10 11 13.
Red Pole and Golden Harvest Properties
Gu Sheng becomes a 426 Red Pole, but receives the relatively unprofitable Long Ping Estate and nearby streets while Chan Ho-nam gets more lucrative territory. He responds by developing a property agency rather than relying entirely on gang income 16.
Golden Harvest Properties quickly attracts customers. Its flagship completes twenty or thirty deals daily, generating approximately 600,000–700,000 in monthly revenue and 400,000–500,000 in net profit. Gu Sheng acquires Mad Dog’s former turf and invests in branded transport and better-organized services 17 19.
To expand beyond Yuen Long, he borrows three million from Ba Bi, receives 2.7 million in cash, and agrees to repay 3.9 million within a month. He directs employees to find branch locations in busy districts before larger competitors enter the market 21.
Recruitment and Tin Shui Wai
Gu Sheng’s decisive victory over Chan Ho-nam reinforces his standing and helps attract capable recruits, including Chen Dong’s group and Silly Fook. He establishes his own gym to train them rather than depend on Big B’s facilities 23 24.
He subsequently secures Tin Shui Wai as his business territory while Hung Lok’s Concrete is arrested and Tai Bo Ball flees to Thailand. Evidence supplied to Officer Wei helps him negotiate greater freedom to operate 30 31.
Causeway Bay Boss
Gu Sheng spends several million securing political support for Causeway Bay, whose three Hongxing-controlled streets earn several times more than Yuen Long. He opens a flagship property office there and recruits Shark Yan as a trainer 37 38.
Chiang Tin-sang makes the vacant boss position contingent on resolving Funeral Biu’s takeover of Hongxing’s Macau gambling tables. After dealing with Funeral Biu, Gu Sheng receives Uncle Hing’s seat and becomes Causeway Bay Boss. He immediately assaults King Boxer Yung at headquarters, openly provoking Big B 38 42.
Legal Protection and Further Business
As conflict involving Wang Bao develops, Gu Sheng orders background investigations, protects Kong Sang’s workplace, and signs a one-year legal-services agreement with Luo Shaoyang Law Firm. He also negotiates with Fat Lai to create the largest bar in Causeway Bay 49.
