"LS, the Causeway Bay Boss. Pretty impressive. I reckon you've got more of a future as a gangster than a cop."
Officer Wei met GS in the car. The moment he slid into the back seat, he got straight to the point.
"Officer Wei, you think so too? What a coincidence! That's exactly what I was thinking!" GS laughed.
"Hey, you're not serious, are you?" Officer Wei felt a jolt of alarm.
"I'm kidding. Gangsters don't last. How many of them ever meet a good end?"
"As long as you understand that." Officer Wei breathed a sigh of relief. His biggest fear was that GS would truly commit to being a gangster.
There had been cases of officers going undercover for a while, then deciding to become gangsters for good.
"Last time you were a Red Pole, and now you're a boss. Next time, will I have to call you Mr. Gu?" Officer Wei couldn't help asking.
The police had sent out plenty of undercover officers over the past few years, but so far, none of them could compare to GS.
How long had it even been? He was already the Causeway Bay Boss, one of Hongxing's twelve bosses-a genuine member of its inner circle.
"That's not a bad idea. If I become chairman, I'll make the whole of Hongxing go straight and do good deeds. They'll help old ladies cross the road every day. Though even that won't do."
"By then, everyone in the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau will have to transfer to patrol." GS roared with laughter.
"We can talk about that if the day ever comes. What's so urgent that you needed to see me?"
"Make me two undercover files. Is an hour enough?"
"What are you planning?" Officer Wei's heart skipped a beat.
"One for Bigmouth Nine, one for Broken-Nose Man. Make those two out to be undercover cops, and I'll use the files to stir up infighting."
"Otherwise, Causeway Bay is one solid bloc. Even the rubbish bins on the roadside belong to someone. How am I supposed to get a foothold? They'll shut me out completely. How am I supposed to get anything done?" GS said bluntly.
"Once I've established myself in Causeway Bay, you'll have all the intel you could want. Don't you want to investigate Teem-Kwan? The head of Hongxing! Think how much credit you'd get for that."
"Making undercover files isn't that easy..." Officer Wei immediately understood what GS had in mind. The pitch tempted him, but his brows remained knitted.
"They're just a bunch of gangsters. How would they know what an undercover file looks like? You don't even need photos. Just stamp them with the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau seal and bluff your way through. If all else fails, carve a Police Force stamp out of a radish and use that." GS grinned.
Officer Wei's brow relaxed, and he nodded. "That won't be a problem, then. But remember to burn them afterward. Don't let anyone find out."
"I'll have someone deliver them in a bit. How should they get them to you?"
"Leave them under that rubbish bin by the road. I'll send someone to collect them."
"You mentioned Teem-Kwan just now?"
"Don't worry. I'll get you the intel when the time comes. Teem-Kwan and Big B haven't been getting along lately. If I stir things up a little more, you'll definitely get an opening."
Two hours later, GS sent someone to retrieve the files from beneath the rubbish bin. He flipped through them. They looked pretty convincing-more authentic than the real thing.
Apart from the lack of photos, they had everything, including Bigmouth Nine's and Broken-Nose Man's real names, the dates they had joined the police, and when they had gone undercover. Even the dates matched when those two had first entered the underworld.
After all, gang leaders like them were already on file with the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau. All they had to do was pull out the records.
Meanwhile, everyone in the room wore a grim expression, but not a single person spoke.
GS's earlier display of sheer, unreasonable brutality had scared them. They were seething with both humiliation and anger.
They were also waiting for GS to produce his supposed evidence.
Otherwise, unless GS killed every last one of them today, they would gather their men and rebel the moment they got out.
GS walked in and tossed two stacks of documents onto the table. "Take a look, all of you. Keep your eyes open from now on. You're all like a bunch of idiots, helping people count the money after they've sold you out."
One man took a file and skimmed it. His pupils immediately constricted.
The man beside him took the other file, read it, then passed it around.
"Fuck, what does it say? Say something, will you? I can't fucking read!" someone cursed.
"Undercover files. They've even got the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau's stamp... Could they be fake?" someone muttered.
"Why don't you make me a fake one, then?" GS immediately fixed him with a vicious glare. One more word out of him, and he would be the next undercover cop.
The man immediately fell silent.
"How come Broken-Nose Man was undercover too? Weren't you talking about Bigmouth Nine before?" someone else asked.
"I already knew about Broken-Nose Man. I was going to finish him off after I dealt with Bigmouth Nine, but before I could make my move, he jumped out on his own. That's what you call a guilty conscience!" GS spread his hands.
Everyone read the files in turn, whispering among themselves.
"You've all seen them now, right? I paid a hefty price to get these. Keep your mouths shut after you leave. If I hear so much as a word about this, you can go join those two!"
GS picked up the files, set them alight with his lighter, and casually tossed them onto the floor, unconcerned about starting a fire.
It wasn't his house, anyway.
Seeing that they no longer looked as resistant as before, but instead wore uncertain, suspicious expressions, GS nodded in satisfaction.
He had already produced ironclad evidence. If anyone still refused to believe it, he could only send them to ask those two bastards in person.
"I've already said everything I needed to say. I treat all of you as brothers. Just do your jobs properly, and I guarantee you'll prosper." GS swept his hand through the air.
"What should we tell our men if they ask about Bigmouth Nine and Broken-Nose Man when we get back?" someone asked.
"Tell them their undercover identities were exposed, and they ran away. As for anything else, don't say what you shouldn't."
Once he saw that no one had any more questions, GS said, "TT Bar tonight. I've booked the whole place. Anyone who doesn't show up is disrespecting me."
"All right, get going. Your men downstairs must be getting impatient. Someone send for the men who worked under those two bastards."
With a few more maneuvers, GS easily took control of Bigmouth Nine's and Broken-Nose Man's men and territory.
Together with the two who had voluntarily pulled out earlier, he had taken over four men's territory and crews in one go-several hundred men in all. He immediately had a firm foothold in Causeway Bay.
Once he spent a few days getting the men organized, he would have nothing to fear from an all-out fight, especially with his forces from Yuen Long added in.
Causeway Bay operated a little differently from Yuen Long. In Yuen Long, a single leader could control a large area, but there wasn't much money in it.
Hongxing only held three streets in Causeway Bay, yet those three streets contained over a hundred bars and nightclubs of all sizes, along with bathhouses, saunas, hotels, and restaurants. There were even businesses tucked away in the alleys.
Leaders such as Red Poles, White Paper Fans, and Straw Sandals only had to watch over a handful of venues. With parking operations and some rental income on top, they already made a decent living.
They would also use Hongxing's name to acquire shares in a bar or nightclub. Altogether, they earned more than they would controlling several streets in Yuen Long.
It was no exaggeration to say that Hongxing's three streets brought in a fortune every day.
Outside, word that Bigmouth Nine and Broken-Nose Man had been undercover cops spread and immediately caused quite a stir. But it failed to gain any real momentum and soon died down.
After all, apart from those two men's crews, who would care that much?
