"Oh?"
Mu You was stunned. The Werewolf had gotten smarter, actually hiding first to check whether he was playing dead.
Seeing his character die, Mu You wasn't annoyed at all. Instead, he was delighted.
He immediately rewound time, then, before the new text could pop up, opened the panel with lightning-fast fingers and used a bottle of poison!
[You died of poisoning! Lifespan -5. Remaining lifespan: 35 years.] [The Werewolf ate your flesh and blood. The Werewolf died of poisoning. Werewolf lifespan -10!] [You killed the level 7 Werewolf (Deer Eater), obtained Werewolf Skin Fragment ×1, gained 7 experience points and 7 Justice Faction reputation, and plundered the 10 years of lifespan the Werewolf lost. Lifespan +10. Remaining lifespan: 45 years.] [You completed Peaceful Village's permanent bounty on the Werewolf. Lifespan +5. Remaining lifespan: 50 years.]
"Heh, eat dirt!"
Mu You chuckled to himself.
This Werewolf had been camping outside his door every day to ambush him, yet had never succeeded once. Instead, his lifespan just kept shrinking!
Mu You figured the Werewolf must be absolutely furious now, but so what? Poison plus the Time Pocket Watch was a perfect counter to the Werewolf!
If the Werewolf dared to trouble him again, he would just be handing Mu You experience and lifespan for free. Mu You would gladly accept all comers-he was even going to take the initiative!
And so, over the next few days, the situation between Mu You and the Werewolf completely reversed.
Besides exploring the map, Mu You started swaggering around the village every day in search of the Werewolf. Whenever he found him, rather than running, he approached him, paraded back and forth right in front of him, and taunted him mercilessly. Then he simply watched as the Werewolf seethed with rage yet dared not take a bite!
After being poisoned to death twice in a row, the Werewolf seemed to have figured something out. The next few times he saw Mu You, he turned and fled without giving him a chance to taunt him. Out of sight, out of mind. Mu You found that rather disappointing.
Five days later, at six in the evening.
Mu You sat at the Pet Shop's front desk, holding a cup of coffee and studying a hand-drawn map.
His life had been very fulfilling over the past five days.
With Lin Xue joining him, he had finally been freed from the shop's work entirely. During the day, he studied the Star Spirit Language, translated books and the Night Watchman's Notebook, and practiced magic. At midnight, he went out punctually for an hour-long patrol, then returned to sleep, repeating the routine the following day.
It was worth mentioning that, with the Invisibility Cloak, going out was now much safer. He no longer had to worry about being spotted by the Werewolf or surveillance cameras while carrying out missions.
In the game, the Werewolf had also become much more subdued. He kept avoiding Mu You, never giving him another chance to poison him.
Unable to kill the Werewolf, Mu You could only spend whatever action points remained after his daily map exploration shooting venomous snakes, spiders, and the like outside the village.
He could now basically kill these minor monsters below level three with a single hit.
Over the next few days, Mu You's lifespan soared, and his Experience Points increased considerably as well.
Including the experience from poisoning the Werewolf twice earlier, he had now reached level four, gaining another two points in all attributes, plus ten Free Attribute Points.
His current stats were:
Name: Lamp Lighter. Identity: Apprentice Wizard. Title: None. Current level: 4. Experience toward next level: 2/40. Attributes- Strength: 4.2 Agility: 4.1 Intelligence: 4.4 Constitution: 3.9 Vitality: 390 Mental Power: 440 Unassigned attribute points: 15. Remaining lifespan: 71 years. Today's action points: 0/8. Learned spells: Sure Shot LV2, Beast Trap LV2, Animal Speech LV2, Heartlock Unseal LV2. Owned skins: Night Watchman (complete), Werewolf (2/10) Obtained items: Time Pocket Watch, Pumpkin Lantern, Old Wand, Night Watchman's Backpack, Night Watchman's Notebook, Star Spirit Dictionary, Mithril Bow, Bloodstained Police Badge, Witch's Poison ×4, Invisibility Cloak.]
His attributes had soared, and his action points had increased by two, but the experience required to level up was getting higher and higher!
Mu You had noticed that at level two, he only needed ten experience points to level up. At level three, that became twenty, and at level four, it jumped straight to forty. The requirement doubled with each level!
By that calculation, reaching level seven would require at least another 40 + 80 + 160 = 280 experience points! That wasn't something he could achieve anytime soon!
Of course, the good news was that leveling up would only be harder for the Werewolf. He didn't have to worry about the Werewolf widening the gap again during this time.
Shaking his head, Mu You took a sip of coffee and looked back at the drawing in his hand.
After five days of exploration, he had finally mapped out every location in the village.
The sheet in his hand was a village map he had drawn by arranging the buildings according to their relative positions.
The map showed that the entire village formed a regular hexagon, with thirty-four buildings of varying sizes scattered along its winding, crisscrossing paths. A total of forty-two villagers lived there.
Mu You had marked the names of all forty-two villagers on the paper, including himself.
Mu You stared at the list.
Only one thing was certain for now: at least one of these forty-two people was the Werewolf in disguise!
Based on his interactions with the village NPCs during this time, as well as some of the passages he had translated from the Night Watchman's Diary, Mu You currently had five main suspects: the little girl, the drunkard, the playboy, the Little Carpenter, and the village chief.
The little girl went without saying. He had already confirmed that she was a player, but he hadn't found any evidence proving she wasn't the Werewolf in disguise, so Mu You had still added her to his suspect list.
As for the drunkard, the playboy, and the Little Carpenter, the previous Night Watchman had encountered all three multiple times while making his late-night rounds, and had recorded them all in the Night Watchman's Diary.
According to the diary, the drunkard got himself thoroughly plastered every night, then wandered around the village. Yet the Werewolf had never killed him even once. Highly suspicious!
The playboy supposedly left home every night to go on dates with different girls. Mu You found that extremely dubious, because there were barely any female NPCs of a suitable age in the village. Who exactly was he dating?
As for the Little Carpenter, he didn't go out every night. Instead, he secretly left the village only on the night of each month's full moon and returned the next day. He was clearly hiding some sort of secret too...
Of course, compared with those three, there was actually someone even more suspicious: the village chief!
Peaceful Village's chief was a white-bearded old man with one foot in the grave. According to the Night Watchman's Diary, he had a Crystal Ball that could show any location in the village at any time.
It was an ideal item for tracking down clues about the Werewolf!
However, when Mu You found the village chief's residence a few days earlier and tried to use his badge to borrow the Crystal Ball, the Old Village Chief told him that it had been accidentally shattered three months ago...
Mu You's suspicion of the Old Village Chief had immediately shot through the roof. Three months ago, the Werewolf had just killed two players in the real world, and the chief happened to break his Crystal Ball at exactly that time? How could there be such a coincidence?
In short, whether or not the village chief was the Werewolf brazenly claiming to be the Seer, things had gotten troublesome.
-Just started a game of Werewolf, but the good side has no Witch and no Seer. How are we supposed to play? Waiting online. Urgent!
