| First Appearance | Chapter 14 — ambushes Mu You’s character in Peaceful Village 14 |
Appearance
- Werewolf form: Half-human and half-wolf, with gray fur, sharp fangs, and clawed hands 38.
- Rooftop encounter: Found covered in blood, licking a bleeding, burn-like wound on his left arm 38.
- Weapons: Carries a chained hook in his left hand and a bloodstained bone-cleaver in his right 39.
- After the magical bombardment: His body is charred black, with barely any intact skin remaining, but he remains capable of fighting 40.
- Disguised identity: His human or villager appearance is not established in the supplied chapters 36.
Personality
The Werewolf relies on deception as well as physical superiority. While wounded beside a well, he pretends to be unconscious to lure Mu You closer. He recognizes and rejects an offered Poison Apple rather than succumbing to its supposed appeal to werewolves 17.
He adapts to failed tactics. After being poisoned through Mu You’s corpse, he becomes reluctant to bite a motionless target. He later pretends to withdraw, hides nearby, and attacks when Mu You stands up. Following a second poisoning, he avoids Mu You altogether 30 35 36.
He treats weaker opponents contemptuously and reacts angrily when outmaneuvered. During the rooftop battle, he assumes that a novice’s trap cannot stop him and becomes furious when Mu You and the little girl disarm him 41.
Abilities & Skills
Strength and Mobility
- Overpowers Mu You even while seriously wounded, killing him through bites and close-range attacks 17.
- Throws a basketball-sized chunk of concrete hard enough to drive the little girl backward through her Magic Shield and off the rooftop 40.
- Smashes a metal animal trap out of shape with repeated claw strikes 41.
- Escapes police by leaping between rooftops, including a gap of more than ten meters 42.
Butcher Wolf Regeneration
- The Butcher Wolf is an advanced Werewolf skin whose body cannot perish while its heart survives 43.
- Its regenerative ability becomes stronger as its injuries become more severe 43.
- This explains his survival after the little girl’s sustained barrage of spells, a potion, and grenades 40 43.
- Weak point: His heart must be targeted to overcome this regeneration 43.
Enhanced Senses
- Uses his hearing to locate a target inside purple smoke and throws his Chain Claw toward the sound 40.
- His hearing and sense of smell make an Invisibility Cloak inadequate protection at close range 38 41.
- Tracks invisible opponents by scent during the rooftop confrontation 42.
Durability
- Police bullets fail to penetrate his skin, although their impact causes pain and forces him backward 42.
- His resistance does not make him impossible to injure: the Long-Bearded Hunter wounds him with a rifle, and the little girl’s magic severely burns him 16 40.
Disguise and Ambush
- According to Scarecrow, werewolves cannot enter human villages in their true forms during the day, but can disguise themselves as humans and live among the villagers 16.
- At night, they can move freely through the village and hunt selected targets 16.
- Repeatedly hides near the Night Watchman’s cabin to ambush Mu You 30 35.
- Interrupts the little girl’s attempts to draw her wand, denying her opportunities to cast spells 39.
Poison Vulnerability
- The Witch’s poison is identified as Peaceful Village’s principal counter to a Werewolf 16.
- The Poison Apple’s listed effect costs a werewolf 10 years of lifespan, compared with 5 years for other consumers 15.
- Directly offering him the apple fails; poisoning Mu You’s body succeeds when the Werewolf eats his flesh and blood 17.
- Mu You repeats this method with bottled poison and the Time Pocket Watch, prompting the Werewolf to stop approaching him 36.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Chain Claw / Meat Hook — A hook on a chain used to pierce targets and drag them into melee range. It catches Mu You while he flees and later pulls the airborne little girl toward the Werewolf 17 38 40.
- Butcher’s Bone-Cleaver — A rare-grade weapon, also called the Bone-Shattering Knife. Mu You knocks it off the rooftop and retrieves it during the police confrontation 41 42 43.
- Spellbreaker: Its damage penetrates Magic Shields and defensive spells 43.
- Cripple: Hits to flesh reduce movement and attack speed by 85% for five seconds 43.
- Bleed: Inflicted wounds bleed continuously and cannot be healed for a short period 43.
- Heavy: Requires a lengthy recovery after each swing; this penalty is disabled while wearing the Butcher Wolf skin 43.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Earlier Attacks and Unresolved Identity
Police connect the killing of a dog near Mu You’s shop with two earlier murders committed three months before. Mu You suspects that the victims were players whose real-world identities the Werewolf had discovered, but their player status remains unconfirmed 19 20.
Mu You also fails to establish the Werewolf’s disguised identity in Peaceful Village. His investigation narrows the possibilities to the little girl, drunkard, playboy, young carpenter, and village chief. He particularly distrusts the chief because the chief’s surveillance Crystal Ball allegedly broke three months earlier, coinciding with the murders 36.
Peaceful Village Conflict
The Werewolf first encounters Mu You on a dark village road and bites his character to death, costing him one year of lifespan 14. After learning about the Witch’s poison, Mu You follows bloodstains to the dying Long-Bearded Hunter, who reveals that he has seriously wounded the Werewolf 16.
Mu You finds the Werewolf beside a well but cannot defeat or escape him through any of the offered choices. He finally eats the Poison Apple himself; the Werewolf consumes his poisoned body and dies 17.
The Werewolf subsequently camps outside Mu You’s cabin. Mu You initially survives by bluffing that his motionless body might be poisoned. When the Werewolf learns to wait for him to stand up, Mu You rewinds time and genuinely poisons himself, securing a second kill. The Werewolf then begins avoiding him 30 35 36.
Rainbow Bay Rooftop Battle
Investigating a woman’s murder in Building 39 of Rainbow Bay, Mu You discovers a claw print and follows tracks to the rooftop, where he unexpectedly encounters the wounded Werewolf. The Werewolf hooks his shoulder and nearly kills him before the little girl intervenes with magic 38 39.
The ensuing fight reveals that the Werewolf and little girl know each other. He accuses her of stealing from their organization and fleeing. Despite enduring her magical bombardment, he catches her as she attempts to escape and kills her in a timeline that Mu You subsequently reverses 39 40 41.
Mu You’s intervention saves the girl, traps the Werewolf, and helps knock away his cleaver. Police arrive before he can resume pursuit. Unable to force his way through their gunfire, he escapes across neighboring rooftops, and the Abnormal Investigation Bureau takes over the case 41 42.
Relationships
- Mu You / Lamp Lighter — Enemy. Initially overwhelms him, then becomes vulnerable to his poison-and-rewind strategy. Mu You later saves the little girl from him and takes his cleaver 17 36 41 42.
- Little girl in the Wizard Apprentice skin — Pursued opponent with ties to his organization. He accuses her of theft and defection; she severely injures him during their rooftop fight 39 40.
- Long-Bearded Hunter — Village adversary who pursues him nightly. Their fight leaves the Werewolf seriously wounded and the hunter dying 16 17.
- Unnamed player organization — His affiliation. His accusation against the little girl exposes its existence; Mu You infers that it sent him to hunt her 39 40.
- Police and Abnormal Investigation Bureau — Authorities investigating his attacks. Police witness his supernatural durability and escape, after which the Bureau assumes control 42.
