He'd been in a gang for two and a half years, so he was an old hand. Cannon wanted to take Morton out, but Morton wasn't new to the game-he'd already been through his first two and a half years--
Why had Cannon been assigned to this patch of turf, where Burger King had so many businesses?
Wasn't it because they wanted the rookie to fend for himself? If he could collect protection money from Burger King, then he really was something.
That was the biggest obstacle to a junior moving up: even if he was more capable than the boss, the boss had a whole bunch of loyal guys.
But the resources the boss had were the boss's. Before he became the boss, he simply didn't have those connections or that information.
However, Lier vaguely remembered that in the game Cyberpunk 2077, Cannon really had risen to the top.
Maybe being dumb had its advantages. He was reckless enough that sometimes he really could catch people off guard.
Besides, there was no Burger King in the game's story.
Sergeant Morton: "What is it? Spit it out."
Burger King: "One of your guys, Cannon, came to collect protection money from me."
Sergeant Morton: "Shoot him. Consider it an apology. That moron's always going on about raising the rank limit and wanting to be a general or something.
He doesn't know that the rules laid down by our ancestors can't be changed. I knew he'd cause trouble."
Burger King: "You've got it wrong. Now it's time for you two to bid. A lot of people in the gang seem pretty unhappy about you working with the corporation."
Burger King: "I don't really care either way. This kid seems pretty willing to listen."
Lier kicked Cannon, who was lying on the ground.
