A ghost kept repeating two names: Abyss... Qin Manjiang...
Qin Manjiang could think of no possibility other than Li Xijiu.
"Where is Yang's ghost story?" Qin Manjiang asked.
Zhong Xueran took a deep breath and said, "Guanyin Lake."
Guanyin Lake?
He remembered that name. Rather, anyone who had grown up in the Fu City area should have remembered it.
It was called Guanyin Lake now, but it used to be called Guanyin Village.
Twenty years earlier, because of reservoir construction and the overall development plan, an entire small village in a mountain valley had needed to relocate. That village was Guanyin Village.
Though leaving their homeland was hard, in the long run, moving out of that small, inaccessible village was not entirely a bad thing.
Most villagers had agreed, and the very few who disagreed had eventually been persuaded one by one.
But just as things were progressing smoothly, some unknown accident happened one night. The upstream sluice gate was suddenly opened, and a raging flood surged down! It completely submerged Guanyin Village.
Only after dawn the next day did people discover that the mountain valley where Guanyin Village had once stood had become a placid lake.
There was no trace of the village. It had been completely submerged.
It was a disaster with heavy casualties. Not a single person in Guanyin Village survived. Divers were later sent into the lake to investigate, but every one of them disappeared. The people responsible for investigating the incident either died or went mad. The whole affair was bizarre in the extreme.
Guanyin Village's reputation grew increasingly terrifying. As time went on, no one was willing to risk trouble there again, and the matter was simply left unresolved.
He had never expected to hear the name Guanyin Village again today, twenty years later.
