Qin Manjiang and Shen Hai left the third-floor dormitory one after the other. They had only just reached the second floor when they heard footsteps coming from the stairs on the first floor!
The two darted out of sight, one into each corridor on either side of the second floor.
A figure holding a candle appeared at the stairwell!
The candlelight flickered, its shadow stretching eerily across the wall.
It was the Old Director!
Hiding in the left-hand corridor, Qin Manjiang quietly watched the Old Director. The old man had come up from the first floor, which meant Yu Ruoli was most likely locked up somewhere down there.
Strangely, instead of returning to his own quarters on the second floor, the Old Director headed straight up the stairs to the third floor, candle in hand!
As the footsteps faded, Qin Manjiang and Shen Hai immediately returned to the central hall on the second floor. Before either could speak, the Old Director's voice suddenly came from upstairs. "Young Master Qin, young Mr. Shen? Where have you gone?"
"You should get some rest after your meal. Don't go running around..."
He seemed to know that Qin Manjiang and Shen Hai could hear him. His words were full of mockery and malice.
"If you don't come back soon, I'll have to send someone to find you..."
An ordinary person hearing the Old Director's eerie voice late at night would have been scared half to death, or at least had their imagination run wild. But to Qin Manjiang and Shen Hai, it sounded like nothing short of a provocation.
"That old dog thinks he's got us cornered." Shen Hai smiled dangerously, a chilling gleam flashing in his eyes.
Qin Manjiang gave a slight nod. Though he said nothing, his expression clearly showed no fear.
