Chapters 51–58 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 51You only need to assist me. I'll take the lead in the rescue!

Gu Zhe and Ming Xuan reached the mist surrounding the haunted domain, where officials were preparing a rescue while waiting for reinforcements. After learning that pig demons inside were dangerous, Gu Zhe offered to lead the rescue himself and asked the others only to assist.

  • Eerie beings summoned by Ming Xiao Fei charged out to fight the pig demons, and Ming Xiao Fei followed them outside to slay monsters.
  • Zhu Qiang escorted Gu Zhe and Ming Xuan through the crowd gathered at the mist, explaining that the Jinyiwei and military were waiting for the Yuzhou Guardian and Oracle before beginning a rescue.
  • Gu Zhe urged the officials to act, then revealed that people could survive inside and that ordinary pig demons were roughly as strong as Evil Ghosts, while their leader seemed stronger than a Fierce Ghost.
  • Zhou Cheng and the others grew more cautious after hearing the pig demons' strength, but Gu Zhe decided he could reveal more of his power and told them to assist while he handled the rescue.

Ch. 52Monsters Devour Humans, So Humans Must Eat Monsters Too!

Gu Zhe revealed his uncanny paper figures to convince Zhou Cheng and the others that he could lead an assault into the haunted domain. After learning Pig Demons could be eaten, he declared that his Netherworld forces were already attacking and set out with the volunteers to find the passage.

  • Gu Zhe summoned swift, blade-wielding paper figures, demonstrating his hidden powers to the skeptical Jinyiwei and military personnel.
  • Zhou Cheng warned that the haunted domain might contain a sixth-rank monster and urged Gu Zhe to wait for reinforcements.
  • Gu Zhe asked whether Pig Demons could be eaten and resolved to hunt them in response to their slaughter of humans.
  • Gu Zhe claimed that his Netherworld warriors had opened a passage and were already fighting the monsters.
  • Zhou Cheng and the others agreed to accompany Gu Zhe, who asked where the passage into the haunted domain was.

Ch. 53Myriad Manifestations-Material Environment Realm

Gu Zhe and the Jinyiwei crossed a region where two realms overlapped while Zhou Cheng explained the government's understanding of the supernatural worlds. The group suspected the region connected to the Spirit World and discussed its potential and danger, leaving Gu Zhe asking about classifications of merged areas.

  • Gu Zhe walked through the haunted domain guarded by paper figures as the Jinyiwei admired his caution and speculated about the Gu Family's influence in the Underworld.
  • Zhou Cheng explained that overlapping realms twisted space and could form passages between worlds.
  • Zhou Cheng described the material world, the Underworld, grotto heavens, secret realms, and the Spirit World, suggesting a corner of the Spirit World had merged with reality.
  • The Jinyiwei discussed how a potentially habitable merged region could become a resource, but a Sixth Sequence demon might turn it into a forbidden zone.
  • Gu Zhe asked whether merged regions had different classifications, including dead zones and forbidden zones.

Ch. 54There were two factions here: one was made up of demons, and the other also seemed to be... demons!

Gu Zhe learned the government’s classifications for haunted domains before entering one with Zhou Cheng and the others. They discovered a battlefield where pig demons fought eerie, thin humanoid beings, and a giant pig demon began sweeping the area with its club.

  • Zhou Cheng explained how the government classified converged haunted domains as dead zones, death traps, battle zones, or territories.
  • Gu Zhe organized the new information with what he had learned about the Yin-Yang Realms and their connected branches.
  • The fog cleared, and Gu Zhe, Zhou Cheng, and the others emerged into a haunted domain with broken buildings, hills, and trees.
  • The group climbed a hill and watched pig demons battle strange, thin humanoid beings; the beings showed no concern when one of their own died, then killed a pig demon.
  • A towering pig demon roared and swept its club through trees and concrete, sending debris flying toward the battlefield.

Ch. 55Saving Lives, and Making Plans

Gu Zhe’s Eerie Paper Figures fought Pig Seven, a powerful demon, while he and Zhou Cheng’s group watched. Gu Zhe refused to wait for reinforcements, choosing to protect the civilians and prepare to reveal more of his Gu Family’s forces.

  • Pig Seven smashed trees and concrete with its club, killing and injuring many of Gu Zhe’s Eerie Paper Figures while their attacks barely wounded it.
  • Gu Zhe summoned the Divine General back from Ming Xiao Fei’s anchor-point vortex to join the battle.
  • Zhou Cheng asked Gu Zhe about the fighters, and Gu Zhe identified them as Netherworld battle generals under the Gu Family’s command.
  • Gu Zhe told Zhou Cheng and the others to spread out and keep watch rather than fight immediately.
  • Gu Zhe explained that he would not wait for reinforcements because civilians remained at risk, and he prepared to show what else his Gu Family could do.

Ch. 56They Watched Him

Gu Zhe awakened small, powerful Paper Figures and sent them to hunt the Pig Demons while the Jinyiwei watched. After the figures slaughtered Pig Seven’s kin, the surviving paper warriors surrounded him and silently fixed their blank eyes on him.

  • Gu Zhe told the others to keep watch and prepared to fight the demons with the Gu Family’s forces.
  • Gu Zhe used his blood to awaken Real-World Paper Figures, then commanded them to attack.
  • Gu Zhe’s Paper Figures ambushed and killed the ordinary Pig Demons with their speed and sharp blades.
  • Pig Seven stopped pursuing his enemies and realized that Paper Figures had killed his kin.
  • Pig Seven found himself surrounded by eerie warriors and tiny Paper Figures watching him in silence.

Ch. 57Heaven and Earth Manifestation

Pig Seven used the inherited Heaven and Earth Manifestation ability to grow larger and stronger, then rampaged through the battlefield and crushed the Eerie Paper Figures. As he grabbed another Paper Figure, a colder-looking enemy caught him off guard with a wave of sinister, freezing breath.

  • Pig Seven transformed through Heaven and Earth Manifestation, growing from four meters to more than six and intensifying his aura.
  • Gu Zhe judged that the Secret Realm and its Eerie Paper Figure lord were still growing during the Heavenly Calamity, giving his side a chance to fight.
  • Pig Seven attacked the Eerie Paper Figures with his club, leaps, and thrown earth and stone, destroying several and damaging the surrounding buildings and terrain.
  • Pig Seven boasted of his lineage, ate a human, and continued attacking the Eerie Paper Figures with his bare hands.
  • As Pig Seven seized another Paper Figure and the floor slab beneath it, a colder-looking enemy released sinister, freezing breath that began spreading over his body.

Ch. 58Could Afford to Die!

Gu Zhe used his Paper Figures and their icy breath to wear down Pig Seven, sacrificing a Seventh Sequence lord to break the demon’s defenses. As the lord crumbled, another Paper Figure inherited its position and entered the battle, leaving Pig Seven battered and facing yet another source of icy breath.

  • The lord Paper Figure slowed Pig Seven with its icy breath while the other Paper Figures slashed through his weakened defenses.
  • Pig Seven recovered from the breath’s effects and lunged at the lord, but it hid among the other Paper Figures and continued attacking him.
  • Gu Zhe repeatedly used the lord’s breath to weaken Pig Seven, accepting the cost to the lord’s source power as the demon’s wounds accumulated.
  • The lord Paper Figure unleashed a final, exceptionally dense blast and crumbled to ash, while Pig Seven lost his colossal form and kept fighting.
  • Another Paper Figure inherited lordship in the Du Xiao Secret Realm, entered the battle, and attacked the already injured Pig Seven with icy breath.
