Background / History
Transmigration and Liu Wu’s Scheme
Before transmigrating, Lin Lang was a seasoned wuxia fan who debated rankings of martial artists, techniques, and weapons. He awakened in the body of a same-named Jinyiwei squad commander after a celebration at the Jade Green Pavilion. His predecessor’s father, also a Jinyiwei officer, had selected the Golden Body Child Skill for him from the armory 1 17.
Liu Wu arranged for Xiao He to drug Lin Lang’s wine before their promotion duel. The scheme depended on the Child Skill’s abstinence requirement: either intimacy or resisting the drug would damage Lin Lang’s fighting ability. Instead, Lin Lang reversed the restriction, grew stronger, and defeated Liu Wu barehanded. He later killed the bedridden rival and took his money to eliminate the possibility of revenge 1 2 5 7.
Acquiring Powerful Martial Arts
Lin Lang volunteered for an intelligence mission to Great Song because it offered access to stronger martial arts. In Fu City, he stole Lin Yuantu’s hidden kasaya containing the Evil-Warding Sword Manual, reversed its flaw, and sought combat practice against bandits on his return journey 8 9 10.
His encounter with Qu Yang produced his first Martial Arts Master breakthrough, though Qu Yang escaped with his horse. Lin Lang subsequently used his knowledge of Ren Woxing’s imprisonment to approach Ren Yingying, while feigning an injury to obtain cultivation-enhancing wine from Lan Fenghuang 11 13 14.
Removing Li and Recruiting Liu Zhengfeng
Hundred-household Li demanded twenty thousand taels to recommend Lin Lang for promotion. Lin Lang refused, later entered Li’s home, and killed him in three exchanges. He also killed Li’s wife, took the household’s fortune and saber manual, burned the bodies, and framed Tian Boguang 16 18 19.
Ordered to pursue the supposed murderer, Lin Lang killed Tian Boguang and rescued Yilin. In Hengshan City, he persuaded Liu Zhengfeng to accept Jinyiwei protection against Zuo Lengchan’s threatened attack on his family. Lin Lang and Liu Zhengfeng then survived an ambush by six Mount Song Guardians, killing all six; Lin Lang personally killed five 22 23 25.
Sect Manipulation and Ren Woxing’s Rescue
Lin Lang reported the recruitment and proposed using agents, staged conflicts, and selective government backing to bring martial sects under imperial control. He and Liu Zhengfeng attributed the Guardians’ deaths to the Sun Moon Demon Cult, provoking conflict with Mount Song. Thousand-household Liu took him to the capital to present the broader plan to Cao Zhengchun 27.
Afterward, Lin Lang joined Ren Yingying, Xiang Wentian, and Lan Fenghuang to free Ren Woxing from West Lake Plum Manor. He fabricated a story that Ren Woxing had once saved his father, presenting the rescue as repayment rather than a pursuit of personal advantage. Ren Woxing rewarded him with the Star-Sucking Great Skill, whose flaw Lin Lang promptly reversed 26 29 31 32.
Pingyang and the Court Rivalry
Returning to Pingyang, Lin Lang discovered that Thousand-household Zhao had claimed credit and reward money for Tian Boguang’s death and assigned his followers to gate duty. Lin Lang publicly defeated Zhao and demanded restitution. He then entered seclusion and broke through to Martial Arts Grandmaster 35 37.
His arrests, extortion at the Silver Hook Gambling House, and refusal to submit to Zhu Wushi drew him further into the rivalry between Dragon Guard Manor and the Eastern Depot. He killed four of Zhu Wushi’s agents, while Cao Zhengchun defended his conduct before the emperor 42 44 45.
With Eastern Depot assistance, Lin Lang prepared action against Northern Mount Heng, Southern Hengshan, and Eastern Mount Tai. Before departing, he manipulated Ren Yingying into coming to his room and spent the night with her, perfecting his Reverse Golden Body Child Skill 48 50.
Jinyiwei Appointments
| Position | Chapter | Circumstances |
|---|---|---|
| Squad Commander / Chief Banner Officer | 1 29 | Starting office; described as principal seventh rank. |
| Probationary Hundred-household | 5 | Receives the appointment after defeating Liu Wu in the arena. |
| Hundred-household of Bailing County | 18 23 24 | Takes over Li’s position and subsequently appears publicly as Hundred-household Lin. |
| Deputy Thousand-household | 29 | Returns from the capital with junior fifth rank after Cao Zhengchun adopts his martial-world control plan. |
| Acting head of the Thousand-household Office | 44 | The Eastern Depot places him in charge during Zhao’s recovery; his formal rank remains Deputy Thousand-household. |
Appearance
- Handsome and youthful: Lan Fenghuang, Ren Yingying, and Li’s wife all regard him as attractive 14 19 31.
- Exceptional bearing: Thousand-household Liu praises him as a handsome talent with distinguished presence 17.
- Clothing: Initially carries his Xiuchun Blade while wearing clothes scented with rouge; later agrees that his higher office calls for new brocade robes 4 37.
Personality
Lin Lang openly links martial strength to wealth, promotion, and personal freedom. A probationary appointment quickly ceases to satisfy him, and after becoming Deputy Thousand-household he already intends to take the Thousand-household seat. He collects enemies’ valuables, refuses to pay Li for advancement, and extorts businesses through his official authority 2 16 18 29 42.
He is a practiced manipulator who presents self-interest as righteousness. He exaggerates achievements when reporting upward, fabricates a family debt to win Ren Yingying’s trust, and repeatedly encourages others to offer rewards without directly requesting them. His outward reputation as an upright gentleman contrasts sharply with his private calculations 13 26 27 31 50.
His treatment of enemies is uncompromising: he kills Liu Wu specifically to prevent a future revenge attempt and murders Li’s wife rather than leave a witness. Toward loyal followers, however, he distributes money, supplies martial manuals, challenges a superior who mistreats them, and promises opportunities for promotion 1 7 18 19 35 42 44.
He enjoys banquets, music, brothels, and romantic pursuits without viewing them as incompatible with cultivation. His reversed body-hardening art makes intimacy a source of advancement, and his pursuit of Ren Yingying combines attraction with the prospect of influence over the Sun Moon Holy Cult 2 16 29 50.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Arts Flaw Reversal System
The system converts specific cultivation drawbacks into benefits and displays Lin Lang’s qi, techniques, mastery levels, and realm 2 32.
- Reverses the Golden Body Child Skill’s loss-of-virginity penalty into increased strength through intimacy 2.
- Allows him to practice the Evil-Warding Sword Technique without self-castration 10.
- Makes absorbed qi easier to refine, turning meridian and dantian damage into nourishment 32.
Reverse Golden Body Child Skill
A body-hardening art whose reversed form strengthens his skin, bones, and sinews through intimacy 2.
- Weapon resistance: Catches Liu Wu’s and Tian Boguang’s blades barehanded 5 22.
- Hidden-weapon defense: Prevents Qu Yang’s poisoned needle from piercing his chest; Li Fei’s thrown dice crumble against his body 11 41.
- Offensive exchanges: Enables him to disregard some attacks and threaten an opponent while being struck 2 11.
- Limit before perfection: Qu Yang’s palm disrupts his qi circulation and injures his shoulder; Lin Lang heals by circulating Evil-Warding Qi 11.
- Perfected defense: No fighter below Grandmaster can break through it. Lin Lang still seeks ways to surpass its cultivation bottleneck 50.
Reverse Evil-Warding Sword Technique
Fast, unconventional swordsmanship that improves rapidly under pressure from capable opponents 11 23 25.
- Evil-Warding Qi: Initially circulates more than twice as fast as his former qi, making his moves more than twice as fast 10.
- Combat-driven mastery: Advances through fighting Qu Yang and the Mount Song Guardians 11 25.
- Movement component: Combined with Evil-Warding Qi, its footwork is described by Lin Lang as comparable to top-tier movement techniques 32.
- Cold-headed fighting: Helps him remain exceptionally calm when facing two Martial Arts Masters at once 25.
- Early limitation: His qi drains too quickly to confidently pursue and kill Qu Yang after their initial fight 11.
Reverse Star-Sucking Great Skill
Absorbs opponents’ true qi and refines it into purer energy that nourishes Lin Lang’s meridians and dantian 32.
- Raises his qi from fifteen to twenty-five years after draining Yu Canghai 33.
- Supplies the accumulated qi needed for his Grandmaster breakthrough 34 37.
- Used against captured criminals and Zhu Wushi’s four agents 40 42 45.
- Beginner limitation: Absorption is slow and suction is weak enough for Yu Canghai to blast his palm away 33.
- Refinement loss: Weak opponents’ qi yields relatively little usable energy after purification 34.
Other Martial Techniques
- Five Tigers Severing Gate Saber: A third-rate saber art maintained at major mastery on his system panel 2 50.
- Acupoint sealing: Immobilizes Li Fei with rapid strikes to multiple pressure points. Earlier, he admits he has never learned to release sealed acupoints 22 41.
- Hidden-weapon study: Examines Flowers Filling the Sky and plans to combine its volume of projectiles with the Evil-Warding manual’s speed. Launching sixty-four weapons simultaneously is the former technique’s perfection-level capability, not a demonstrated feat by Lin Lang 43.
Intelligence and Political Strategy
- Uses knowledge from his wuxia background to locate hidden martial manuals and identify figures such as Qu Yang 1 9 10 11.
- Plans Ren Woxing’s rescue alongside measures to conceal it and rally former followers 26 29 31.
- Employs false attribution and provocative rumors to escalate conflict between Mount Song and the Sun Moon Holy Cult 27 37.
- Secures Eastern Depot evidence, blocked communications, and local cooperation for operations against martial sects 48.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Xiuchun Blade — His early Jinyiwei weapon; he also uses Liu Wu’s blade to kill the injured rival 3 7.
- Longsword — His usual weapon for the Reverse Evil-Warding Sword Technique 11 21 44.
- Li Fei’s sleeve short sword — Seized after Li Fei’s capture and later used against Zhu Wushi’s four agents 41 44.
- Evil-Warding Sword Manual kasaya — Stolen from the roof of the Lin family’s old residence in Fu City 10.

- Collected martial manuals — Includes Li’s Eight Gates Golden Lock Saber, Yu Canghai’s Pine Wind Sword Technique, and Li Fei’s sword and concealed-weapon inheritance. He reserves lesser arts for followers or reference rather than replacing his own swordsmanship 18 33 43.
Relationships
- Xiao He — Lover and household attendant. Initially participates in Liu Wu’s drugging scheme; Lin Lang later takes her from the Jade Green Pavilion. She hopes to become his concubine, while he states privately that he will not abandon her 1 8 34 37.
- Ren Yingying — Rescue partner and eventual lover. He cultivates her trust through assistance and fabricated family history; she sees him as an upright hero. He also intends to gain influence over the Sun Moon Holy Cult through her 26 29 31 50.
- Ren Woxing — Rescued ally and source of the Star-Sucking Great Skill. Both seek leverage: Ren Woxing hopes to make Lin Lang his successor and subordinate, while Lin Lang wants his support without leaving the Jinyiwei 31 32 50.
- Lan Fenghuang — Ally in Ren Woxing’s rescue. Supplies medicinal wine and views Lin Lang favorably, partly because he does not disparage the Five Immortals Sect 13 14 29.
- Wang Wu and Jia Liu — Trusted followers whose lives Lin Lang previously saved. Remain loyal before the Liu Wu duel and later rise to Probationary Hundred-household under his command 4 44.
- Liu Zhengfeng — Recruited subordinate and fellow survivor of the Mount Song ambush. Eventually becomes Hundred-household of Bailing County while remaining under Lin Lang’s command 23 25 44.
- Cao Zhengchun — Political patron who supports his sect-control strategy and defends him before the emperor. Lin Lang deliberately seeks incidents that will keep Cao invested in protecting him 27 45 48.
- Zhu Wushi, the Iron-Gallant Divine Marquis — Political adversary who first considers recruitment, then sends agents to compel allegiance and calls for Lin Lang’s investigation 29 44 45.
- Yilin — Rescued from Tian Boguang. Her sect’s distrust of the imperial court initially separates them, though she later defends Lin Lang’s actions to her master 22 26.
- Qu Yang — Early opponent whose duel accelerates Lin Lang’s cultivation; escapes with his horse. Later becomes part of the deception concealing Ren Woxing’s rescue 11 26 29.
- Liu Wu and Hundred-household Li — Rival and obstructive superior, respectively. Lin Lang kills both and takes their wealth 7 18.
