This was a lounge.
Torches blazed on the walls, and stone guards stood on either side of the door.
Shen Ye appeared quietly.
Two voices rang out at once.
"I guessed you'd come, but not this quickly," Nangong Sirui said, waving his fan.
"Who did you choose as your mentor?" Xiao Mengyu asked.
Shen Ye looked around. The lounge was empty apart from the two of them.
They certainly lived up to their rankings as the top two freshmen.
"I don't know his name yet, but I've already accepted a task."
Shen Ye scratched his head as he spoke.
Rumble-
The great stone doors slowly slid back.
A passage appeared before the three of them.
"The doors only open once at least three people have gathered. All right-I'm in a hurry, so I'll go first."
With that, Nangong Sirui flashed through the doorway.
All sorts of concealed weapons sprang out on either side of the passage, firing straight at him.
The ground also sank away, turning the path into a precipice.
A swarm of bats dogged Nangong Sirui, spitting small fireballs at him.
Nangong Sirui dodged and wove through the passage, striving to overcome the obstacles, and swiftly vanished at its far end.
"Do you know what his task is?" Shen Ye asked.
"He mentioned it just now. I think he has to reach a certain burial chamber within a time limit and retrieve a treasure," Xiao Mengyu said.
"What about you?" Shen Ye asked.
Xiao Mengyu drew the Remnant Snow Sword and said,
"Knock down a hundred monsters-without killing them."
Shen Ye looked at her, then at the passage outside.
There wasn't a single monster.
"Different events occur here depending on the task. Do you want to go first, or should I?" Xiao Mengyu asked.
