Ch. 26Red Moon Warlock-Medium

Xu Le discovered the ritual requirements for advancing to a Red Moon Warlock-Medium, but as the Red Moon Calamity began, students mutated inside the classroom. Zhang Zhe fought the Oddities while panicked students fled into danger, leaving Xu Le to wonder what counted as a correct prediction.

  • Xu Le read the manual’s requirements for becoming a level 1 Medium and suspected Gan might have arranged the circumstances around him.
  • The Red Moon Calamity began, and Xu Le heard a scream from the sky as Zhang Zhe prepared for the Black Tide.
  • Xu Le spotted warnings that students would mutate and alerted Zhang Zhe, who pinned one mutated student to the wall with his battle sword.
  • Xu Le warned Wang Man and tried to hinder another mutant, while terrified students fled the classroom despite Zhang Zhe’s warning that it was safer inside.
  • Xu Le questioned whether his warnings and actions counted as correct predictions as notifications revealed that fear and the students’ blood were attracting Oddities.

Ch. 27Dual Blades Zhang Zhe

Xu Le recognized that students returning from outside had been polluted and warned Zhang Zhe, but Zhang Zhe hesitated as the crowd approached. After a student died before him, Zhang Zhe transformed his greatsword into dual blades and charged into the Oddities, while Xu Le prepared for the polluted students inside the classroom to mutate.

  • Xu Le saw fleeing students die to Oddities and received repeated alerts that people inside the safe area would mutate from Guyinduo Pollution.
  • Xu Le warned Zhang Zhe not to let the returning students into the classroom, but Zhang Zhe hesitated and proposed gathering them in a corner.
  • Wang Man gave Xu Le her concealed revolver, and Xu Le watched students move the barricades aside and rush toward the classroom.
  • Zhang Zhe killed a student who tried to enter, then watched Five Heads kill another student and lost his restraint.
  • Zhang Zhe drank liquid, split his greatsword into two sabers, and attacked the Oddities with flaming blades.
  • Xu Le pulled Wang Man behind him and watched the polluted students crowd inside, anticipating that they would mutate.

Ch. 28Headshot

Xu Le entered the classroom to stop the fear and contamination from spiraling out of control, killing two students and recruiting others to help. He exposed Zhang Qiang as contaminated, and a student stabbed her as she struggled beneath them.

  • Xu Le left Zhang Zhe to fight the Oddities and went into the classroom after Zhang Zhe asked for help.
  • Xu Le shot Xu Miaomiao and the boy she had bitten, then threatened the students into helping him contain the danger.
  • Li Wei and more than a dozen students joined Xu Le after he explained that they needed to act to survive.
  • Xu Le attacked Zhang Qiang when her self-defense response revealed she was contaminated, and several students helped pin her down.
  • After Xu Le said he was low on bullets, a thin student rushed forward and stabbed Zhang Qiang repeatedly with a dagger.

Ch. 29Xu Le the Butcher

Xu Le forced the students to execute people he identified as polluted before they could mutate, then turned to managing the survivors’ grief and heart energy. He asked Wang Man to sing for the classroom, leaving her bewildered as she faced the crowd.

  • After the skinny man killed Zhang Qiang, Xu Le shot a woman who resisted his orders and used his apparent supply of bullets to discourage challenges.
  • Xu Le ordered Li Wei and the skinny man to drag three people to him, then explained that severe injuries could trigger their Guyinduo contaminants to mutate early.
  • Xu Le made the students take turns killing the people he identified as polluted and gave them two minutes to finish before the first Mutants appeared.
  • Several students fled the classroom, and Xu Le shot four more people before declaring the remaining students clear of pollution.
  • As the students grieved and their heart energy rose, Xu Le told Wang Man to help calm them and directed her to sing.

Ch. 30A new era, remnants of the old

Xu Le urged Wang Man to calm the students with her singing while Zhang Zhe fought the oddities outside until the Night Watchers arrived. As Zhang Zhe died from pollution, Xu Le hurried to complete his advancement ritual and swallowed exactly 169 grams of oddity ashes before beginning a blood summoning array.

  • Xu Le convinced Wang Man to sing for the frightened students, and her song helped lower their heart energy.
  • Xu Le found Zhang Zhe near collapse after fighting the oddities, but Gu Beichen and Wang Shu arrived and cleared the area with fireballs.
  • Wang Shu confirmed Zhang Zhe had been polluted, and Zhang Zhe entrusted Xu Le with his bank password and asked him to donate most of his savings to the school before dying.
  • Xu Le gathered and measured oddity ashes, swallowed exactly 169 grams, then cut his hand and began drawing a Summoning Array Formula in blood.
  • A black cat meowed as Xu Le, weakened by blood loss, neared the end of the ritual's fourth step.

Ch. 31Xu Le, Medium, Guyinduo Tree

Xu Le performed a ritual to become a Red Moon Warlock, but instead summoned the level 3 Oddity White Cicada, leaving the others unsure whether he had been bewitched or had become a Medium. As an explosion struck another classroom, Gu Beichen went to investigate while Wang Shu stayed with Xu Le and asked whether he could still be trusted.

  • Xu Le petted the black cat for luck, then began the summoning ritual and named his cornerstone as the Guyinduo Tree.
  • A mysterious voice questioned Xu Le, and he declared that he wanted to become a Medium and a Red Moon Warlock.
  • The Guyinduo Soul Tree dropped seven lust fruits, whose energy formed White Cicada in the sky as the gathered survivors watched.
  • Xu Le realized his ritual had summoned White Cicada, and the others grew wary of him while another classroom erupted in flames and smoke.
  • Gu Beichen went to investigate the explosion, while Wang Shu stayed beside Xu Le and asked if he could still trust him.
  • Xu Le replied that Wang Shu probably would not find anyone else he could rely on, and Wang Shu said the captain had been right about him.

Ch. 32Hello, honored Medium

Black Cicada attacked the Night Watchers and students while Gu Beichen and Wang Shu struggled to hold it back. Xu Le summoned Golden Toad to help, but after the toad was badly wounded and vanished, Black Cicada targeted Xu Le—until White Cicada awakened and greeted him.

  • Wang Shu abandoned Xu Le to join Gu Beichen, who fought Black Cicada after it arrived and revealed that Gu Beichen was a level 2 Flame Walker.
  • Gu Beichen and Wang Shu fought Black Cicada together, but Wang Shu was injured and his Night Watchers War Blade was broken.
  • Xu Le summoned Golden Toad, which battled Black Cicada alongside Gu Beichen, but their attacks also wounded the toad and it vanished after promising to return.
  • Black Cicada declared that its lord wanted newly awakened Mediums killed and rushed at Xu Le, while Gu Beichen and Wang Shu could not stop it.
  • White Cicada awakened, surrounded Xu Le with white shadows, and greeted him as an honored Medium.

Ch. 33Forbidden Warlock-Spirit Medium

Xu Le completed his ritual and became a Forbidden Warlock LV1-Spirit Medium, summoning White Cicada to fight Black Cicada. After dawn broke, Xu Le and the others helped White Cicada destroy Black Cicada, and the surviving students celebrated their escape.

  • Xu Le's Guyinduo Soul Tree absorbed the Red Moon's power, clarifying his abilities and revealing that he had become a Forbidden Warlock LV1-Spirit Medium.
  • Xu Le summoned White Cicada and asked her to defeat Black Cicada, while the students realized Xu Le had become a Warlock.
  • As dawn weakened Black Cicada's bloodlust, Xu Le, Wang Shu, and Gu Beichen joined White Cicada in attacking him.
  • White Cicada used White Stupa to devour Black Cicada with white maggots, then vanished when her time was up.
  • The surviving students cheered and wept, while Xu Le pushed away Wang Man's attempted hug and regretted where his hand had landed.

Ch. 34Guyinduo Secret Language

After the Black Tide, Xu Le and Wang Man underwent Night Watcher testing, and Xu Le learned that the Children of Guyinduo were linked to a distinct kind of mutation. Wang Shu invited Xu Le to meet Captain Bai Jing and gave him Zhang Zhe’s sealed twin-bladed sword; as Xu Le set out to fulfill Zhang Zhe’s last wish, an unexplained command urged him to sleep.

  • Wang Shu explained that Lighthouse’s upcoming briefings concerned the Children of Guyinduo, whom Xu Le connected to the students’ unusual mutations.
  • Xu Le persuaded Wang Shu and Gu Beichen to take him and Wang Man through the Night Watchers’ testing entrance, where they completed the checks quickly.
  • Xu Le noticed that the promotion information in his manual had vanished and that the black cat following him was missing.
  • Xu Le returned Wang Man’s pistol, and Wang Shu invited him to meet Captain Bai Jing and handed him a black-cloth-wrapped object.
  • Xu Le unwrapped Zhang Zhe’s sealed twin-bladed sword and resolved to withdraw Zhang Zhe’s bank savings and donate them to the school.
  • As Xu Le headed toward the bank, repeated messages commanded him to sleep, and he wondered whether they came from Guyinduo Secret Language or Guyinduo Fate.

Ch. 35The Mother Tree Realm

After surviving the Guyinduo Black Tide, Xu Le returned to his dorm and followed his instinct to sleep. He awoke in a dark realm beneath the Guyinduo Soul Tree, where a newcomer learned that the place was called the Gundo Mother Tree Realm.

  • Xu Le saw Night Watchers and Guards dispose of the polluted and dead, including the bodies of four hundred people, before returning to the dormitory.
  • Xu Le showed his clearance to a Guard, concealed that he had become a Warlock, and went to sleep alone in his room.
  • Xu Le awoke in the dark world and encountered a terrifying bald man who remarked that another person had died before vanishing into the darkness.
  • Xu Le approached the enormous tree and met several other people gathered beneath it; a short man told him he was number seven and would move up if someone else died.
  • A plump middle-aged man explained that the group had named the place the Gundo Mother Tree Realm.

Ch. 36Guyinduo Fruit - Lesser Element - Ice

Xu Le entered the Gundo Mother Tree Realm, learned that its visitors had eaten Guyinduo Fate Fruits, and claimed a reward from the Mother Tree. After Old Four tried to pressure him over his chosen Ice fruit, a one-eyed woman in red drove Old Four away and challenged Xu Le for calling her “ma’am.”

  • Old Four told Xu Le that the seven visitors were from Deep Blue and had all eaten a Guyinduo Fate Fruit.
  • Xu Le approached the Gundo Mother Tree and heard the familiar voice offer him a reward of three Guyinduo Fruits.
  • Xu Le used the Guyinduo Secret Language to identify the fruits and chose Lesser Element - Ice.
  • Old Four tried to persuade Xu Le to let him identify the fruit, but the woman in red called him foolish and made him flee.
  • Xu Le thanked the woman in red, saw that she had one eye, and heard her question why he had called her “ma’am.”

Ch. 37Azure Dragon Fruit, Metal Fruit

Xu Le met the woman in red, who named him Number Seven and tested whether he would give her his Ice Fruit. After seeing her extraordinary rewards from the Gundo Mother Tree, Xu Le tried to stop her from choosing the weakest one and considered how his ability could help him gain influence in the Mother Tree Realm.

  • Xu Le placated the woman in red with a compliment, noticed her mechanical fingers, and heard her declare that he was Number Seven.
  • The woman in red threatened to kill Xu Le if he refused to hand over his Ice Fruit, but she praised his willingness and left the fruit with him.
  • The woman in red knelt before the Gundo Mother Tree and received five rewards, including Longevity, Corrosion, Azure Dragon, and Metal fruits.
  • The woman in red reached for the lower-tier Iron fruit, and Xu Le called out to stop her.
  • Xu Le told the woman in red not to choose the first fruit, then considered using his ability to build influence and gain knowledge and resources in the Mother Tree Realm.

Ch. 38Chi Xiao!

Xu Le identified five Guyinduo Fruits for Chi Xiao, who began to believe his unusual ability and explained the fruits’ origins and powers. After Xu Le revealed that he was a Forbidden Warlock-Spirit Medium from Zion, Chi Xiao reacted with alarm and asked whether he had recently encountered anything strange.

  • Xu Le identified the five fruits as iron, longevity, corrosion, Azure Dragon, and metal, and Chi Xiao chose the upper-tier elemental metal fruit.
  • The Gundo Mother Tree offered Chi Xiao the fourth and fifth fruits after sensing her feelings, and she apologized to it for crushing her mirror.
  • Chi Xiao explained how Guyinduo Fruits descended from Seeds of Gundo and described the Azure Dragon and metal fruits’ abilities.
  • Xu Le said he had only become a warlock the previous night and revealed his profession as a Forbidden Warlock-Spirit Medium.
  • Chi Xiao introduced herself as being from Tianrui Lifeng, asked Xu Le about his origins and recent strange encounters, and Xu Le asked what she meant.

Ch. 39Return

Xu Le told Chi Xiao about the black cat, and she explained the methods for eating multiple Guyinduo Fruits before consuming a Metal Fruit herself. He returned from the Gundo Mother Tree's realm with the Ice Element Fruit, leaving him to decide whether to eat it.

  • Chi Xiao questioned Xu Le about everyone he had met, and he told her about the black cat that had brought him luck and helped him become a Warlock.
  • Chi Xiao offered Xu Le information about eating multiple fruits in exchange for his help and the information he had provided.
  • Chi Xiao explained three methods: eating Heart Energy Fruits, eating Homologous Fruits, and using Guyinduo Fate, which could allow additional fruits if the soul was strong enough.
  • Chi Xiao ate the Metal Fruit, and metallic particles transformed her wooden mechanical hand into a smoother, more human-looking hand.
  • Chi Xiao told Xu Le to walk into the darkness to return, and he woke up a little over four hours later with the Ice Element Fruit against his chest.
  • Xu Le took out the Ice Element Fruit and wondered whether he should eat it.

Ch. 40The black cat appeared again

Xu Le chose not to eat the Ice Element Fruit yet, then learned that Zheng Wen had lost two roommates during the Black Tide. He collected Zhang Zhe’s 1,150-yuan inheritance and set out to honor Zhang Zhe’s wishes and obtain a Gundo Relic, with the black cat accompanying him.

  • Xu Le wrapped up the Ice Element Fruit instead of eating it and decided to withdraw Zhang Zhe’s inheritance.
  • Zheng Wen returned to the dormitory and broke down after telling Xu Le that Lu Zhengyu and Zhang De had died during the Black Tide.
  • Xu Le encountered the black cat again and promised to buy it dried fish after collecting the inheritance.
  • Xu Le saw signs that Oddities had attacked parts of the Upper City and wondered how far the fighting had reached.
  • Xu Le withdrew Zhang Zhe’s 1,150 yuan from Lighthouse Bank using documents from the Night Watchers.
  • Xu Le planned to distribute the inheritance according to Zhang Zhe’s last wishes so he could obtain a Gundo Relic.

Ch. 41Someone strangely familiar

Xu Le unsealed the Gundo Relic, spent much of his money on food for Black Cat, and returned to school, where he learned about the Dark Tide’s casualties and listened to Madam Juya’s speech. He recognized her as strangely familiar, and Madam Juya seemed startled when she spotted him, but Xu Le had already disappeared.

  • Xu Le kept 50 dollars and used the remaining 1,100 to fulfill the twin-bladed sword’s wish, unsealing the Tianrui Lifeng Twin-Bladed Sword.
  • Black Cat pressured Xu Le into buying dried fish, canned cured meat, and little sausages before they returned to the dormitory, where Xu Le checked the Oddity spawn timer and slept.
  • Xu Le handed Zhang Zhe’s estate and documents to the school welfare director, then overheard students discussing the A7 Polluter and the Night Watchers’ suppression of information about him.
  • Xu Le went to Madam Juya’s speech, where she reported the Dark Tide’s casualties and urged Lighthouse’s people to unite and seek the light.
  • Xu Le felt certain that Madam Juya was familiar but could not recall why; after their eyes met, Madam Juya turned back in surprise, but Xu Le had already left.

Ch. 42The Night Watchers’ Invitation

Xu Le visited the Night Watchers after the Black Tide and was offered a place in Lighthouse’s public service system. Although he initially resisted joining because of the danger, Bai Jing and Gu Beichen began listing benefits, and Xu Le asked to hear more.

  • Xu Le recognized Madam Juya from his memories but chose not to approach her.
  • Xu Le went to the B2 District Night Watchers branch at Bai Jing’s request and was left in a dark room while they assessed him.
  • Bai Jing confirmed that Xu Le had become a Red Moon Warlock and offered him a choice between a cash reward and joining Lighthouse’s public service system.
  • Xu Le used mental clarity to consider the risks and decided that Night Watcher fieldwork was too dangerous for him.
  • Xu Le declined the offer at first, but reconsidered when Bai Jing promised clerical work and Gu Beichen described the Night Watchers’ benefits.

Ch. 43Joining the Night Watchers

Xu Le accepted Bai Jing’s offer to join the Night Watchers as a clerical employee, then prepared to leave school and begin his new job. After Zheng Wen challenged him over surviving the Black Tide, Xu Le beat him and left him with advice to keep his options open.

  • Bai Jing offered Xu Le a clerical position with Team 6, housing help, and other benefits, and Xu Le agreed to start work the next morning.
  • Xu Le celebrated outside the branch office, informed the Academic Affairs Office that he had joined the Night Watchers, and returned to the dormitory.
  • Zheng Wen questioned Xu Le about surviving the attack on classroom A7, then punched at him; Xu Le dodged and beat Zheng Wen until he stopped fighting.
  • Xu Le packed his belongings and told Zheng Wen to leave himself options in case another Black Tide came.
  • The next morning, Xu Le left the school with his belongings and greatsword as Zheng Wen called after him, promising to become a supernatural.

Ch. 44Black Cat-Ding Ke

Xu Le joined the Night Watchers and began studying Warlock fundamentals under Gan at Headquarters. After a day of reading, Black Cat appeared and helped choose a name for itself, leaving Xu Le asking, "Ding... Ke?"

  • Xu Le registered as a Logistics Department Night Watcher and met Gan, who offered to teach him Warlock basics for a month.
  • Gan took Xu Le to Headquarters, where he explained the supernatural systems and the Red Moon's power.
  • Xu Le studied alone in the Records Room and learned how light-darkness levels affected Oddities and pollution.
  • Black Cat arrived as Xu Le finished reading, and the two went to find food.
  • Xu Le tried to name Black Cat, but it rejected "Little Black" and pointed to characters in books until Xu Le read out "Ding... Ke?"

Ch. 45Bai Jing's way of doing things

Xu Le returned to the Night Watchers’ branch, where Bai Jing assigned Gan to train him for the same work as Gan, then learned about a scandal involving Luo Chai and a dead woman. Wang Shu showed Xu Le to his new apartment, and Xu Le studied spell seals late into the night while Ding Ke secretly tried to write in his notebook.

  • Xu Le asked Black Cat whether its name was Ding Ke and whether it could transform, then returned to the branch after dinner.
  • Gan told Bai Jing that Xu Le learned quickly, and Bai Jing explained that she wanted Gan to train him for the same work, partly as preparation for future threats.
  • Wang Shu reported that Luo Juning’s son, Luo Chai, had abducted a scavenger’s daughter, who was later found dead after mutating; Bai Jing ordered Wang Shu to silence the scavenger.
  • Wang Shu took Xu Le to a furnished apartment near the branch, warning him not to tell family about Night Watcher business and cautioning him about keeping a black cat.
  • Xu Le decided to trust Ding Ke and studied the nine spell seals until he fell asleep at his desk; Ding Ke tried to write in his notebook, then tore up the page and hid it in the toilet.

Ch. 46Black Card: Black Sheep and the Girl

Xu Le learned that Gan would teach him the Guyinduo secret language, a divination deck for Mediums, and discovered that his talent was connected to it. He used his guyinduo vision to reveal the first card’s true image and meaning.

  • Xu Le overheard Lighthouse Guards discussing Luo Chai’s arrest and Luo Juning being held accountable after protests over the abuse of a Mutant’s family.
  • Gan told Xu Le they would study at the branch and introduced the Guyinduo secret language as a Medium’s tool for communicating with fate.
  • Xu Le recognized that the Guyinduo secret language seemed connected to his talents, and Gan showed him a deck of fourteen cards.
  • Xu Le turned over the first black card and used his guyinduo vision to reveal a girl nestled against a dead black sheep, with meanings of disaster upright and light nurtured in darkness reversed.

Ch. 47The First Fate Divination

Xu Le studied the Guyinduo Fate Cards with Gan and learned how to perform divination. During his first attempt, he drew on the Guyinduo Soul Tree’s spirit energy and saw the threads controlling Gan’s fate, including a black mark between Gan’s eyebrows.

  • Xu Le remembered seeing the Black Sheep Girl when he first activated Guyinduo Vision, and Gan warned him that Guyinduo’s power could trap him in dangerous thoughts.
  • Gan explained the meanings of the Guyinduo Fate Cards and taught Xu Le divination over several days, then lent him his old deck.
  • Gan invited Xu Le to practice divination on him, and Xu Le realized the Guyinduo Soul Tree had absorbed all his Red Moon Spirit.
  • Xu Le entered the Tranquil State and drew a drop of Guyinduo Spirit Energy from the Soul Tree, which shook his mental world and sent spirit energy radiating around him.
  • Xu Le infused the Puppet on Strings card and saw a fate thread linking it to Gan, a black mark between Gan’s eyebrows, and countless named threads tightening around Gan like a puppet’s strings.

Ch. 48Don't Run Off Tonight

Xu Le used the Guyinduo Soul Tree to remove a teammate’s fear pollution after Gan had left, saving her from mutating. Exhausted afterward, he learned that Gu Beichen planned to treat him to dinner, and decided to bring Ding Ke along.

  • Gan left after advising Xu Le that fate could be hinted at but not easily changed, and Xu Le wondered how to save someone controlled by fate.
  • Wang Shu brought back an injured woman polluted by fear, and Xu Le saw that she would mutate within minutes.
  • Xu Le used a Psyche Worm to stabilize the woman and the Guyinduo Soul Tree to absorb her fear and destroy the Child of Fear, clearing her pollution.
  • Xu Le saw that absorbing fear had ripened a fear fruit and grown another, but decided to wait until he could research them at Headquarters.
  • Gu Beichen invited Xu Le to dinner, and Xu Le decided he would bring Ding Ke and take home any leftovers.

Ch. 49An invitation at the gathering

Xu Le joined Wang Shu, Gu Beichen, and Li Shunliu for dinner, where Wang Shu tried to recruit him for internal duties despite his contract. The team dropped the subject, and the gathering ended with Ding Ke getting carried away after tasting cola.

  • Xu Le waited outside the Branch Office with Ding Ke until Wang Shu and Gu Beichen returned with Li Shunliu, who thanked Xu Le for saving her.
  • Gu Beichen invited everyone to dinner at the Bright Hotel, where Wang Shu explained that mutations and corruption had become more frequent and Lighthouse's dark rules had changed.
  • Wang Shu asked Xu Le to help with the team's workload, but Xu Le cited his contract and Li Shunliu pointed out that he knew he was capable.
  • Wang Shu argued that work within Lighthouse City counted as internal duties, prompting Xu Le to accuse him of exploiting a university student.
  • The group stopped discussing assignments and ate together, while Ding Ke devoured expensive sausages and went wild after sneaking a cup of cola.

Ch. 50Diplomatic Justice

Xu Le weighed his new duties as a Night Watcher and rejected Wang Man, who was leaving for Zion the next day. When he saw her being pressured to drink by men from the Zion Arts Troupe, he used his authority to make the Bright Hotel manager intervene without starting a diplomatic incident.

  • Wang Shu urged Xu Le to consider joining Night Watcher assignments, while Xu Le admitted he doubted his own strength and might need to act sooner than planned.
  • Wang Man learned Xu Le had joined the Night Watchers and would stay in Lighthouse, then left after he responded coldly to her plans to return to Zion.
  • Xu Le initially walked away when Wang Man drank with two men from the Zion Arts Troupe, but returned after Wang Shu went back inside to protect her.
  • Xu Le warned Wang Shu that assaulting the troupe members could create diplomatic trouble and proposed making the hotel manager handle the situation instead.
  • Xu Le planted a Black Cicada fragment on the manager and accused him of possessing Oddity remains, then threatened him with prosecution until the manager headed toward Wang Man's table.
