No weaknesses, but mediocre.
Chapter 7: Starting races
Zhao Chi now had a hidden talent.
That gave him plenty of freedom in choosing a race.
He opened the system.
He clicked on the territory interface.
He clicked on the race tab.
[No starting race has been set. You may set one for free. Proceed?]
He clicked [Yes].
An image instantly appeared before Zhao Chi.
There were five available races in the image.
[Human] [Orc] [Elf] [Skeleton] [Goblin]
All five were starting races.
He could choose one for free.
Once his territory developed, he could acquire other races through capture, purchase, or other means.
Some students came from wealthy households and could receive support from their families or clans.
They could obtain high-tier or rare races right from the start.
But Zhao Chi could not.
He had a clan, too.
But it was very small.
His clan was based in a village in the Snowfield City Outskirts. The village had three larger clans, while Zhao Chi's was a marginal one.
Both his parents had died, too, so even fewer people cared about him.
But Zhao Chi had no complaints.
After all, his clan had paid to build the house he lived in.
His clan also funded his tuition.
They had even contributed quite a bit toward his living expenses.
Some people inevitably gossiped about it.
But Zhao Chi did not care at all.
Getting the money was what actually mattered. Let them talk; a few words would not hurt him.
Once he could earn money, he would repay his clan twofold.
He could not forget their kindness in raising him.
As for the people who gossiped, Zhao Chi simply ignored them.
He pulled his thoughts back.
Zhao Chi carefully examined the five starting races before him.
He knew every race's strengths and weaknesses by heart.
Humans:
[Race] Human [Lifespan] 100 years [Height] 170 cm [Weight] 65 kg [Appearance] 5 - pleasant features [Attributes] 20 points - good [Constitution] 5 - just right [Strength] 5 - just right [Agility] 5 - just right [Intelligence] 5 - just right [Replenishment] 5 people per day [Talent] Farming (+10% crop yield)
Human attributes were very balanced.
After all, the system's stats were based on humans.
All human attributes were at five points.
Very balanced.
They could do anything, but were not particularly strong at anything.
These were only "racial attributes."
There were still differences between individuals.
Some people's attributes could be as low as two or three points, while others could reach seven or eight.
But most people averaged four or five points.
Without training, they were at four; with training, they reached five.
In other words, five points represented humanity's true capabilities.
Height and weight worked the same way.
The average height was 170 centimeters, and the average weight was 65 kilograms.
Men were a little taller and heavier, while women were a little shorter and lighter.
Individuals varied.
If he chose humans as his starting race...
Five refugees would arrive from outside the territory every day, and he could let them join.
Humans could also reproduce through natural childbirth.
But that was much slower.
Humans came with the Farming talent.
It counted as a support talent.
As for appearance, there was nothing wrong with humans considering their average looks pleasant...
Zhao Chi turned his head.
He looked at the second race.
Orcs:
[Race] Orc [Lifespan] 200 years [Height] 190 cm [Weight] 90 kg [Appearance] 3 - hideous features [Attributes] 20 points - good [Constitution] 6 - commendable [Strength] 6 - commendable [Agility] 4 - unremarkable [Intelligence] 4 - unremarkable [Replenishment] 5 people per day [Talent] Aggressiveness (+10% morale)
They were a starting race, after all.
These were low-tier Orcs.
High-tier Orcs would have greater strength and constitution.
But even these Orcs were strong in close combat.
They were the strongest of the starting races.
Their constitution and strength were both at six points.
Although that was only one point higher than humans, that one point represented an entire level.
One point was equivalent to the difference in strength between men and women.
In other words, if Orcs entered human society, every one of them could be a schoolyard or street bully.
As with humans, these were only average attributes.
Individuals varied, too.
"Intelligence" was not exactly the same as "IQ."
In this world, intelligence was more like mental capacity.
Higher intelligence meant faster learning.
It also meant gaining more experience.
