The Fire Rhino Tribe was a mid-sized tribe within the surrounding several million miles.
Its strength was roughly equal to that of its neighbors, the Black Wolf Tribe and the Night Wind Tribe. They rarely clashed and often traded with one another.
Only the Black Bat Tribe came into frequent conflict with it.
In fact, it was not just the Fire Rhino Tribe. The Black Wolf Tribe and the Night Wind Tribe also frequently clashed with the Black Bat Tribe.
But the Black Bat Tribe had two Midgods, and its chief was a Special Life called a "Black Bat," with over thirty Lowgods and ten to twenty thousand Sanctuaries under his command.
That allowed it to keep all three tribes, including the Fire Rhinoceros Tribe, under its heel.
Over tens of thousands of years, the Black Bat Tribe had shown increasing signs of swallowing up the surrounding tribes in one fell swoop.
Roger's and Allen's parents had also died fighting the Black Bat Tribe's last invasion.
Had the Black Wolf Tribe and the Night Wind Tribe not been watching hungrily from the sidelines, the Fire Rhino Tribe might have been wiped out completely last time.
That was why both Roger and Allen were desperate to grow stronger.
Even if it meant refining divine sparks.
In brutal tribal conflicts, Sanctuaries were like weeds, liable to be flattened by any passing gust.
Only after becoming a Lowgod could someone be counted among a tribe's core fighting strength.
As long as they were not killed outright in a tribal war, they could join another tribe afterward.
But Sanctuaries were not so fortunate.
By the time they returned to the tribe, darkness had fallen completely, and blood-red moonlight shrouded the land.
After shutting the well-fed Fire Rhinos in their room, Roger and Allen returned to their stone house.
"Roger, the four Fire Rhinos we're responsible for have absorbed enough energy from the fire cloud tree hearts. Now we only need to wait for them to slowly digest and absorb it. We can take a year off in the meantime."
Allen sat down and asked, "What are your plans for the year?"
"Nothing much. I'm planning to spend the year cultivating properly. I've only just gained an initial grasp of the death edict, after all. This is the perfect time to improve my strength."
Although he had left his state of enlightenment, Roger could still sense insights into the death edict surfacing in his consciousness at every moment.
These insights were fragmented and lacked any coherent structure. Roger had to sort through and analyze them himself.
The four edicts differed greatly from the seven elemental laws.
The elemental laws had clearly defined divisions of profound mysteries.
The edicts did not. Each was a complete whole.
That made the edicts harder to comprehend, but once understood, they offered a greater variety of abilities.
"In that case, I'll stay here with you this year. Just focus on cultivating!"
After giving it some thought, Allen made his decision.
The fastest progress came just after gaining an initial grasp of a law. Once that period passed, further progress became much slower.
Allen himself was a case in point.
That was exactly how it had been when he first began cultivating the Earth Element Profound Mysteries.
The same was true of many other Sanctuaries who had gained insights into the laws.
So, to let his brother cultivate without distractions, Allen decided to sacrifice a little of his own cultivation time.
In the Netherworld.
Neither Sanctuaries nor deity-level experts really felt the passage of time.
After all, as long as they were not killed, they would never die...
"Mm... thanks, then." Looking at this brother who had his best interests at heart, Roger was deeply moved.
A year might not amount to much for a Sanctuary.
But in such a dangerous environment, who would give so much for someone other than a true brother?
For now, Roger could only keep Allen's kindness in his heart and repay him once he grew stronger.
With the decision made, Roger closed his eyes and began cultivating.
Allen stood up, took out a saber, and began practicing while keeping others from interrupting Roger's cultivation.
The Fire Rhino Tribe was a relatively orderly tribe.
Generally, no one would rashly interrupt someone else's cultivation.
But there were always exceptions.
It never hurt to be careful.
That was also why many Sanctuaries here banded together to survive.
With Allen guarding him, Roger could cultivate with peace of mind.
Within his consciousness.
Threads of the death edict kept surfacing.
Roger immediately focused all his attention on sorting through them and deepening his understanding.
Roger's secluded cultivation lasted a full six months.
Some of the other Sanctuaries were a little curious about why Roger and Allen had not left their stone house for half a year.
But curiosity was all it amounted to.
In the Fire Rhino Tribe, once you completed your duties, your free time was entirely your own.
The tribe's deity-level experts spent most of their time cultivating, so they were even less likely to pay attention to an unremarkable Sanctuary like Roger.
"Phew..."
Roger rose from the stone bed where he had been sitting cross-legged and looked at Allen, who was quietly cultivating nearby.
"Allen, how long has it been?"
"Roger, you're awake." Allen immediately emerged from his meditation. "It's been a full six months. How did your cultivation go?"
"Very well!"
The corners of Roger's mouth lifted slightly.
When he first transmigrated, he had worried that his talent would be inadequate, that he would become cannon fodder and die namelessly in some tribal conflict.
Now, however, Roger had enough confidence to face whatever storms the future held.
"Oh?" Allen's eyes immediately lit up. "How well is very well?"
"I feel like I've reached the Saint Domain Limit. I'm only one step away from becoming a deity!"
Roger wore a brilliant smile, and his voice had never sounded so relaxed.
"The Saint Domain Limit!" Allen exclaimed under his breath. "You reached the Saint Domain Limit in just six months?"
"Heavens, Roger, you're actually a genius!" Allen looked at Roger as though he were a monster.
Allen could hardly be blamed for losing his composure. Among the Fire Rhino Tribe's thousands of Sanctuaries, only two or three were known to have reached the Saint Domain Limit.
Allen himself was still a long way from the Saint Domain Limit.
"I don't know why, either. After I woke up from that coma, my mind became especially sharp. Once I gained an initial grasp of the death edict, comprehending it became as easy as eating or drinking..."
Roger spoke with a smile.
"Maybe this is what they call 'awakening your potential,'" Allen said enviously.
"Haha, maybe." Roger laughed. "Sorry for the trouble, Allen, but I'll need your help a little longer. I want to keep up this momentum and see if I can break straight through the bottleneck and become a Lowgod of death!"
"Of course!" Allen answered immediately. "Roger, just focus on cultivating. Don't worry about anything else!"
After giving Allen's shoulder a firm pat, Roger returned to the stone bed and resumed cultivating.
Over the previous six months.
Roger had not only comprehended the Soul Attack aspect of the death edict to its limit, but had also unexpectedly gained an initial grasp of Soul Refining.
Soul Refining, as its name suggested, allowed him to refine soul essence.
Becoming a god was more important right now, however, so Roger devoted all his energy to breaking through the bottleneck.
Within his soul ocean.
Roger first delved into the depths of his consciousness and studied the Jade Disc Fragment for a while.
After absorbing a large amount of fire cloud tree heart essence, the Jade Disc Fragment had grown an almost imperceptible amount, and its surface had become a little brighter.
Most importantly, Roger could clearly sense that the jade disc was the reason his aptitude and comprehension had improved so dramatically.
After observing the jade disc for a while, Roger withdrew from his consciousness and began sorting through everything he had learned about Soul Attack during this period.
As his mind became fully immersed in the world of the edict, countless flashes of inspiration rose from deep within him.
Roger explored and tested them one by one.
He lost track of time, working through and verifying his insights tens of thousands of times.
Then a sudden sense of understanding came to him.
A feeling of completeness filled Roger's heart.
I did it!
Boom!!!
Suddenly.
The vast laws of heaven and earth descended!
Still sitting cross-legged, Roger rose helplessly into the air.
The disturbance instantly startled Allen awake as he stood guard nearby. Once he saw what was happening.
Allen's face filled with disbelief and shock. "My brother has become a god!"
