Sequence 9 — Mystery Pryer 2 Drank the potion on his eighteenth birthday, nearly five years before the transmigrator’s arrival. Fully digested it within six months, but the family’s mandatory silence period prevented further advancement.
Time Stone — Sequence 9 ability awakened 4 An Outer Deity’s corruption automatically activated Concealment of Time, saving his life. Its initial duration was three days 6.
Sequence 8 — Melee Scholar 6 Confirmed after the early termination of his silence period. The Time Stone unlocked Eye of Time, while temporal concealment increased to one month. Combat study and practical fighting became central to potion digestion.
Sequence 7 — Warlock 33 34 Finished digesting Melee Scholar during the Black Skull Gang assault, then drank the Warlock potion under the God of Steam and Machinery’s protection. Gained material-based spellcasting and substantially greater spirituality. The Time Stone unlocked Time Reload, strengthened Eye of Time, and extended concealment to three hundred days.

Background / History

Before transmigration, Kronos’s Earth counterpart was a Chinese chemistry graduate who had recently received a promotion and raise. He celebrated by buying a replica of Iron Man’s right gauntlet. After arriving in the new world, he suspected that the gauntlet and its green stone were connected to his transmigration, but did not establish that it was an actual Infinity Gauntlet 1 4 12.

His soul merged with that of the Argel Family’s heir rather than simply replacing him. Kronos retained the heir’s memories, education, habits, and personality while the transmigrator became the controlling consciousness. The merger made him more mature and expanded his enthusiasm for physics and mechanical engineering 2 12.

The original heir had studied history, languages, mysticism, and mechanical engineering. After mastering the family’s available mysticism texts, he spent much of his remaining silence period studying in Backlund University’s library. There, his unusual attire and constant presence earned him the nickname “Library Oddball” and brought him into contact with Professor Portland Momont 2.

Kronos arrived in early 1347, approximately two and a half years before Klein’s arrival. His knowledge of the original novel informed his plans, including an initial fallback of seeking Mr. Fool’s protection if he could not become strong enough independently 2.

Appearance

  • Natural appearance: Handsome, sharply defined features, a straight nose, deep-set gray eyes, and pale blond hair 1.
  • Eye of Time: His eyes turn pale green when the ability is activated 6.
  • Early disguise: Used a false beard, an older-looking appearance, and techniques recorded in the family’s books 15.
  • Warlock persona: Wears custom black robes with a triangular hood, carries a cane, and displays a badge depicting star-filled, lashless eyes. He deliberately avoided a pointed hat because of its possible association with demons 40.

Personality

Kronos combines scholarly curiosity with practical ambition. He tests unfamiliar abilities, records their limitations, and pursues both scientific research and Beyonder advancement. His political awareness is sharper than that of his formerly scholarship-focused counterpart, and he is willing to exploit the freedom afforded by his position as a noble heir 4 6 14 31.

He enjoys theatrical displays and disguises. His private fantasies include impressing Klein with spectacular predictions, while his public performances range from feigned innocence to an apparently grief-stricken noble and a benevolent traveling warlock. These performances often serve concrete purposes: obtaining training, concealing spell practice, or digesting a potion 6 10 36 41.

Kronos initially prefers to avoid unnecessary killing. He sought to defeat the Sailor without injuring him and attempted to knock out the Black Skull Gang’s guards rather than kill them. Nevertheless, fear and anger can make him violent, as shown when he severely maimed the Sailor after nearly being shot 17 33.

His confidence in the Time Stone initially encouraged recklessness. After the panther ambush, he recognized that he had concentrated on gods and Outer Deities while neglecting threats at his own level. He resolved to exercise caution even around seemingly ordinary people. Gner nevertheless viewed his plentiful escape routes and privileged upbringing as obstacles to developing genuine resolve 49 50.

Abilities & Skills

Concealment of Time

The Time Stone detaches Kronos from his own timeline, making mystical connections, influences, and observations ineffective 4.

  • Automatically repelled the Outer Deity’s corruption when first awakened 4.
  • Conceals fluctuations of fate, including from observers of the Wheel of Fortune Pathway 4.
  • Does not provide physical invulnerability: Others can still see, touch, and kill him through direct attacks 4.
  • At Sequence 8, he required at least one day of rest before reactivating it and planned to spend that interval under the manor’s divine protection 6.

Eye of Time

Allows Kronos to capture a target’s timeline, examine its past, and glimpse possible future events. Its effectiveness depends on spirituality, viewpoint, and the target’s Sequence 6 35.

Documented stage Observational reach Limitations
Sequence 8 — Initial testing Detected timelines within five meters. Object histories could extend up to six months into the past; future glimpses were extremely brief 6. Fixed viewpoint and heavy spirituality consumption. His first attempt to view the bedding’s future exhausted his spirituality 6.
Sequence 8 — Further digestion and meditation Became able to glimpse the future of people at a lower Sequence, allowing him to anticipate an Assassin’s attack 21. Seeing an event did not necessarily reveal when it would happen 21.
Sequence 7 — Same or lower Sequence targets Could see one year into the past and fragments of the next few minutes 35. Beyonder items are evaluated by the Sequence of their underlying characteristic 35.
Sequence 7 — Higher Sequence targets Could see one week into the past, with occasional future glimpses 35. Future observation was unreliable 35.
  • Reconstructed Annie’s secret borrowing of his crystal ball and verified Philip’s instructions to befriend him 6 9.
  • Foresaw the Sailor drawing a revolver, prompting an attempt to stop him 17.
  • Observed unusually scattered futures around Booze, which Kronos attributed to guidance associated with the Wheel of Fortune Pathway 26.
  • Used genuine past and future observations to support his traveling-warlock performances 42 43.

Time Reload

Lets Kronos save his condition at a chosen point once each day and restore that condition when in danger or severely impaired 34.

  • Reload frequency: Once per week; the daily save opportunity does not grant daily reloads 34.
  • Restored his intact body after the Evil-Patterned Black Panther crushed his head 48 49.
  • Requires deliberate activation: It cannot save him if he dies before noticing the danger and triggering it. The panther’s noise gave him enough warning during its first use 49.

Eyes of Mystery Prying

Perceives spiritual bodies, concealed phenomena, and the structure of Beyonder abilities 6 17.

  • Reveals emotional and physical conditions through a target’s spiritual bodies 17.
  • Identified gaps in the Sailor’s Phantom Scales, allowing a targeted strike beneath his armpit 17.
  • Detected concealed sentries and distinguished useful mystical objects from items merely carrying traces of the Spirit World 8 41.
  • Helped Kronos glimpse Phoenix blood beyond a Spirit World entrance 40.
  • Offers little advantage against purely physical attacks that do not expose a Beyonder ability to analyze 21.

Warlock Spellcasting

Uses materials and inherited mystical knowledge to cast spells. The family’s repertoire includes weakened versions of abilities from numerous low- and mid-Sequence pathways 34 35.

  • Mobility and concealment: Levitation and invisibility; invisibility hides him but does not transport him 40 43.
  • Agricultural applications: Weed-clearing and rapid growth. He cleared more than three hundred mu of farmland during one village visit 41 47.
  • Combat: Burning flames, lightning, and restraining thorns; used alongside Gner against the Evil-Patterned Black Panther 49.
  • Ritual protection: Purified Spirit World traces from cured meat and erected a Wall of Spirituality to warn him of intruders 43 49.
  • Spell creation remains unfinished: The Time Stone supplies temporal effects in exchange for spirituality; it does not give him an understanding of time’s principles. His tests failed to find responsive materials among more than half the Mystic Pouch’s contents 41 44.

Combat Training

Studied fighting theory before receiving practical instruction from Gner in unarmed combat, daggers, and combat blades 9 10 13.

  • Trained in weighted gear and learned to recognize flaws through Gner’s explanations after each exchange 10.
  • Favors observation and counterattacks, particularly techniques targeting vulnerable areas 17 24.
  • Defeated several low-Sequence opponents, including an Assassin, Warrior, Hunter, Arbiter, and Pugilist 21.
  • Can be overwhelmed by superior speed or strength; his observational abilities did not overcome Duke Negan’s Barbarian bodyguard’s physical advantage 20 30.

Nine Secret Hand Seals

Recognized Gner’s meditation gesture as the Bing seal from the Daoist Nine Secrets and experimented with the Lin seal 12.

  • The Lin seal produced a resonant voice, reduced fear, and spread warmth through his muscles, but he initially failed to repeat the experience 12.
  • His ability to understand the characters gave him visualization options unavailable to Gner 13.
  • He hoped the seals would reduce the risk of losing control and later help resist divinity; these were expectations, not demonstrated protections 13.
  • Suspected a possible connection to the Celestial Worthy and relied on temporal concealment while continuing to investigate 12 13.

Academic and Technical Expertise

  • Education: Earth-side chemistry training and inherited mechanical engineering expertise from Backlund University 2 12.
  • Languages: Familiar with several national languages, Ancient Feysac, Hermes, Ancient Hermes, Jotun, Dragonese, and Elvish 2.
  • Materials research: Developed formulas praised by Portland and pursued specialized steel for the Ironclad Project 31.
  • Mysticism: Possesses an enhanced memory, extensive family knowledge, and practical potion-brewing skills; prepared Gner’s Pugilist potion himself 2 23.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Time Stone — Green stone located between his eyebrows. Unlocks abilities alongside his own advancement without separate potions, rituals, or anchors 4 6.
  • Oath of Secrecy — Mystery Pryer-derived item that prevented speech during the family’s silence period and caused stinging when he tried to speak 2.
  • Vampire Mask — Made from a Sequence 6 Faceless characteristic; changes his appearance. Using its transformation requires five hundred milliliters of blood that day; simply wearing it without changing appearance does not count as use 23.
  • Vampire’s Heart — Sequence 7 Vampire-derived necklace that enhances recovery and briefly creates Wings of Darkness for rapid flight. Without blood supplied in advance, active abilities drain his blood at ten milliliters per second 23.
  • Lucky One Cane — Black cane given before his voyage. Provides Machine Thinking and stronger blows; Kronos lent it to Gner during the panther fight 37 49.
  • Azure Brooch — Allows underwater breathing and rage-enhanced combat. Its accumulating negative emotions can cause irritability and eventually threaten loss of control 37.
  • Elf Charm — Made from Sequence 2 elf blood; can release tornado or lightning power barely reaching Sequence 5. Usable once a month and has no particular side effects 37.
  • Slumber Charm — Purchased for ten pounds; forcibly induces sleep, with effectiveness depending on the target’s strength. Has three uses 28.
  • Mystic Pouch and Spell Grimoire — Carries spellcasting materials in the pouch; studies the family’s inherited Warlock knowledge and spell-creation process in the grimoire 35 37 41 44.
  • Conventional weapons — Acquired a loaded revolver, battle saber, and dagger for the Black Skull Gang operation 32 33.
  • Sleep medicine — Bought ten bottles from an Apothecary and used sleeping potions during wilderness travel 27 48.
  • Travel references — Purchased an Adventurer’s Handbook and obtained a Tiana Island map marked with remote villages 43 45.

Relationships

  • Marquis Hanno Argel / Marquis Argyle — Father and principal patron. Supports his choices, funds his company, authorizes equipment and subordinate advancement, and challenges his overconfidence 2 14 22 24 37.
  • Marchioness Audrey Argel — Mother. Closely observes her children’s behavior and worries when Kronos pretends to be dispirited 2 6 36.
  • Annie Argel — Younger sister. Kronos is openly affectionate toward her; his first spoken word after the silence period is her name, and he later gives her his blue crystal ball 4 6.
  • Portland Momont — Teacher, friend, and technical collaborator rather than academic supervisor. Kronos offers him thirty percent of Walter Factory and leadership of its technical work; Portland registers their patents and oversees the factory during his absence 2 31 37.
  • Gner — Combat instructor, recruited subordinate, and traveling companion. Teaches Kronos practical fighting, warns against inadequate preparation, and helps defeat the panther 10 13 22 37 49.
  • Philip — Initially approaches Kronos at Duke Negan’s direction, but develops a genuine friendship. Arranges a digestion-related sparring match and provides naval contacts before Kronos sails 9 29 37.
  • Duke Negan — Influential noble connected to Kronos’s naval appointment and access to the Ironclad Project. Encourages Philip to establish good relations with him 8 10 31 37.
  • Violent Bear / Boris — Grizzly Bear Bar associate who helps arrange opponents, introduces Beyonder gatherings, and assists with Booze’s capture 17 18 21 26 27.
  • Beck Yardinis — Business aide responsible for company arrangements and coal-futures work 15 37.
  • Benjamin Bowen — Merchant-fleet connection. Kronos boards under cover as Benjamin’s relative, and Benjamin arranges the loading of the purified cured meat 37 43.

  • Acts as a traveling warlock by clearing fields, reading timelines, and offering help. The performances aid digestion, but spell creation remains unresolved 40 41 42 43.
  • On Tiana Island, villagers interpret his spells as divine miracles. Fearing that they might devise an honorific name for him, he abandons the performance and escapes invisibly 45 47.
  • Fails to maintain an effective wilderness watch and suffers a fatal panther attack. Time Reload saves him; he and Gner kill the creature, relocate their camp, and replace his unreliable vigilance with a Wall of Spirituality 48 49.
