"What do you mean, last time?!" At Xi Feng's words, a gleam flashed in Ur's eyes. She grabbed him and said, "So you really did see!"
"No, no!" Xi Feng shook his head repeatedly, refusing to admit anything.
"You!" Ur gritted her teeth at his reaction. Then her eyes shifted, and she asked, "Then did you see the scar on my stomach?"
"A scar? I don't remember seeing one." Xi Feng hesitated in confusion, then answered without thinking. The instant the words left his mouth, he inwardly cursed. He looked up to find Ur radiating a dark aura as she said ominously, "You really did see!"
"You... don't be like that! It was beyond my control!"
"I don't care! Accept your divine punishment!"
With that, Ur pounced on him, straddling Xi Feng and relentlessly hitting him.
"I couldn't do anything about it back then!"
"I don't care..."
"Ahem, ahem..."
As the two tussled, Xi Feng and Ur heard several coughs. They looked up to find everyone staring at them.
Then Makarov said, "You two, mind yourselves. There are quite a few people here."
Hearing Makarov's voice, Ur froze. Only then did she realize how suggestive it looked to be straddling Xi Feng. She hurriedly stood up, her cheeks flushed, looking as flustered as a bashful girl.
"Ahem..." Xi Feng was embarrassed too. After coughing a few times, he said, "It's nothing, it's nothing."
"Ah, young people," Makarov sighed, then turned his attention back to the stage.
Chapter 66: Fairy Tail's Civil War (Please send flowers)
After that little commotion, everyone turned their attention back to the stage.
"Next up is contestant number eleven! Please welcome Lucy Ha-"
Just as the host was about to announce Lucy's surname, she stumbled onto the stage to stop him. After all, she didn't want everyone to know she came from a wealthy family.
"I'm going to dance with my Celestial Spirits..." Lucy took out her keys to summon her Celestial Spirits, but just then, a woman's voice rang out behind her.
"Contestant number eight... I'm the very definition of a fairy, blessed with beauty and wisdom. Victory is mine. Let's end this boring contest already."
"Wait, I haven't finished performing!" Lucy turned to look behind her and saw a woman with long brown hair, dressed in green, wearing glasses and holding a fan.
"Evergreen!"
"When did she get back?"
At Evergreen's return, the guild members began chattering, while Makarov watched her with a grave expression.
"Could you please stop causing trouble? My livelihood depends on this!" As Evergreen approached, Lucy turned to face her, looking annoyed.
"Lucy, don't look at her!"
Seeing what Lucy was doing, Gray hurriedly shouted a warning, but it was too late. The unsuspecting Lucy turned into a stone statue the instant Evergreen removed her glasses. The host onstage immediately began evacuating Magnolia's citizens.
"Evergreen, what are you doing?! Are you trying to ruin the festival?!" Makarov glared furiously at Evergreen on the stage.
"A festival like this wouldn't be any fun without me."
With a flick of her hand, Evergreen sent a flame into the stage curtain, setting it alight. Behind it stood Erza and the others, all turned into stone statues, their expressions still frozen in surprise.
"What?!"
Everyone present stared in shock. Makarov furiously shouted at Evergreen.
"Evergreen, undo your magic this instant!"
Crack!
Before Evergreen could speak, a bolt of lightning struck down from the roof onto the stage, revealing three figures. Then a deep voice rang out.
"Hey, everyone in Fairy Tail... the festival's only just beginning."
"Laxus!"
"And the Thunder God Tribe!"
The sudden appearance of Laxus and the Thunder God Tribe shocked everyone once again. Then Laxus spoke to Makarov. "Let's play, old man!"
"What exactly are you trying to do?!" Makarov looked at his grandson in anguish. "Hurry up and make Evergreen undo her magic! The Grand Magic Parade is tonight!"
"That's right, the Grand Magic Parade is tonight. But who knows how many of you will still be alive by then..."
Laxus sent a bolt of lightning crashing down beside Lucy, then looked at them and said,
"I told you, didn't I? This is a game, and these women are the hostages. Break the rules, and I'll smash them one by one."
"Even games have their limits, Laxus."
Xi Feng stepped forward, fixing Laxus with an icy stare.
"Release them right now!"
"Huh? What was that?" Laxus gave Xi Feng a wicked grin, then walked over to Lucy and stroked her cheek. "A game needs stakes. Besides, you were speaking awfully loudly just now. What if you startled me and I accidentally broke them?"
"You'll regret this, Laxus!"
Xi Feng stared coldly at Laxus as he spoke.
"Regret it? Hahaha!" Laxus paused at Xi Feng's words, then burst into laughter.
"Come on, Xi Feng! Let's see who's the strongest Mage in Fairy Tail! The rules are simple. All anyone in Fairy Tail has to do is defeat me!"
"I'm fired up!" Natsu looked excitedly at Laxus on the stage and charged straight at him.
"So we just have to beat you? Got it!"
"You're as impulsive as ever, Natsu." Laxus paid no heed to Natsu's charge. He merely flicked his hand and unleashed a lightning bolt that struck Natsu, taking him down instantly. He even made a point of reminding him,
"I like that personality of yours, but sometimes you need to learn to stay calm."
"If you want these girls back to normal, you'll have to defeat all four of us within three hours. If you can't, these girls will turn to sand..." Light glinted off Evergreen's glasses as she smiled and continued, "But you have
nearly a hundred people against the four of us, so your odds should be pretty good. And the battlefield is all of Magnolia."
"Laxus! How long are you going to keep up this nonsense?!" At Evergreen's words, Makarov could no longer contain his fury. He instantly grew larger and roared at Laxus.
"I told you not to be so impatient. You need to enjoy the festival." Ignoring Makarov, Laxus smiled and unleashed a dazzling burst of light. When it faded, he and the Thunder God Tribe had vanished. Only Laxus's voice lingered in the air.
"The Fairy Tail battle royale starts now!"
"Damn you, Laxus!"
"Catch Laxus!"
"Beat him to a pulp!"
Thoroughly enraged by Laxus, the men reacted the moment he finished speaking and swarmed out of the guild to search for him and the Thunder God Tribe.
"I... I'm going to stop him too! That little brat!" Unwilling to be left behind, Makarov shouted as he ran toward the door.
Thud! But just as he tried to leave, Makarov struck what felt like a wall. A line of text floated into view.
[People aged eighty and stone statues may not enter or leave]
"Freed's Magic Formula?" Xi Feng and Ur walked over, and Xi Feng said to Makarov, "Leave the rest to Ur and me, old man. I'll go easy on Laxus."
"Damn it!" Makarov cursed under his breath. In the end, he could only nod.
"Sorry for the trouble, Xi Feng."
"No problem."
Xi Feng answered and headed out with Ur, but with a thud, both of them struck an invisible wall just as Makarov had. Two more lines appeared.
[Xi Feng may not enter or leave] [Anyone who joined the guild less than one month ago may not enter or leave]
"What?!" Looking at the three lines displayed by the Magic Formula, Makarov exclaimed in shock, "When did Freed get so powerful? He actually set up a triple-layered Magic Formula! What are we going to do?!"
"Then what should we do?" Ur frowned at the three lines before her. She knew nothing about this kind of rule-based magic.
"No problem. I have a way," Xi Feng said with a smile. He had quite a few Noble Phantasms that could deal with Magic Formulas. But just as he was about to use Projection, another line appeared on the Magic Formula.
[Jade vs. Troy vs. Alzack: Winner, Alzack]
Chapter 67: Thunder Palace Activated (Please send flowers)
[Jade vs. Troy vs. Alzack: Winner, Alzack]
"What on earth happened?!" Makarov's eyes widened at the words before him, his heart filled with shock. But the text that appeared afterward pained him even more.
"Stop! All you brats, stop right now!"
"This is despicable!"
Seeing the guild members fighting one another, Ur was furious too. She already hated Laxus for this. Although she had only recently joined Fairy Tail, she had genuinely grown to love the place. It was always noisy and chaotic, but it felt warm and welcoming. She couldn't understand why Laxus wanted to destroy a guild like this.
"Projection-Rule Breaker!"
Xi Feng's expression darkened, magic power surging from his body. An ornate dagger appeared in his hand. He slowly approached the Magic Formula and gave it a light slash. It shattered like glass and vanished.
"This is...!" Makarov stared at Xi Feng in disbelief as the Magic Formula disappeared.
