Dugu Yan’s mother died when she was born, and her father died while she was young. She grew up relying on Dugu Bo, with grandfather and granddaughter becoming each other’s only remaining family. The Dugu line was afflicted by its own poison, and poison had begun stirring within her as well 7 56 58.

Dugu Bo spoiled her and placed little pressure on her cultivation. As his own poisoning worsened, he feared that his enemies would threaten her after his death. He sought a talented partner who could protect her and hoped she would become strong enough to use the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to suppress her poison 58.

She studies at an intermediate academy affiliated with Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Because she normally lives at school, she rarely returns to Dugu Manor 67.

She becomes shy and easily flustered around Li Mingzhu, but grows increasingly comfortable taking his arm, hugging him, and teasing him.
