Ch. 202A Naaru who loved to work

X'era completed a heavily armored Large Arcane Golem and joined Velen in the cavern, where she began purifying the Avatar of the Fallen. Herad and Velen agreed that X'era could help heal K'ure, and Herad set out to bring him over.

  • X'era directed the Arcane Golems as they built a thorium-armored Large Arcane Golem with a locked compartment for her.
  • X'era powered the golem with Holy Energy, and it took up Remornia, the sword imprisoning Sire Denathrius.
  • Herad brought X'era through the Temporary Portal to meet Velen, who recognized her as a Naaru in a shell.
  • X'era fired a powerful beam of Holy Light into the Avatar of the Fallen and began burning through it.
  • Herad and Velen discussed healing K'ure, and Velen agreed that X'era's help gave them a high chance of success.
  • Herad volunteered to teleport K'ure to the cavern, and everyone stopped to prepare for the treatment.

Ch. 203Healing K'ure's Injuries

Herad brought a healthy Naaru back to the Cavern so X'era and Velen could heal K'ure's injuries with the help of other Holy Light practitioners. After nearly an hour of healing, K'ure recovered completely and could hold vast amounts of Holy Light again.

  • Herad found K'ure at the Temple of Karabor and told him he had brought back a living, healthy Naaru lady.
  • K'ure hurried through the Temporary Portal to meet X'era in the Cavern.
  • X'era, Velen, and the other Holy Light practitioners gathered around K'ure and unleashed a sustained barrage of Holy Light to heal him.
  • The helpers exhausted their strength while X'era and Velen continued channeling Holy Light for nearly another hour.
  • K'ure cheered as his injuries healed completely, and he emerged able to hold vast amounts of Holy Light.

Ch. 204Dark Star Rescue Plan

K'ure learned that rescuing K'ara, the Dark Star, would have to wait until the Draenei rebuilt the equipment destroyed by the Orcs, so the Naaru and Velen turned to purifying the Avatar of the Fallen. Herad grew concerned about K'ara's danger and considered asking the humans for Lightforging Iron, leaving the chapter with that possibility unresolved.

  • Velen told K'ure that the Orcs had destroyed the equipment needed to revive K'ara, and gathering enough Lightforging Iron would take months.
  • The Naaru and Velen focused on the Avatar of the Fallen and purified it within a few days, leaving its Felsteel body badly damaged.
  • Velen took his Priests and Vindicators to establish a home in the Highlands, while the two Naaru went to watch over K'ara at the Temple of Karabor.
  • X'era sensed K'ara's dark, evil will and was reassured by K'ure that they would eventually resolve the situation.
  • Herad worried that Ner'zhul might summon K'ara and considered asking humans to lend the Draenei Lightforging Iron, but wondered whether the Church of the Holy Light had any to spare.

Ch. 205Talking Archbishop Faol into it

Herad planned to secure lightforging iron from Archbishop Faol by warning him about Stratholme’s future destruction, but Alleria cautioned that Faol would need concrete evidence. Herad visited Faol and began his appeal with a dire warning.

  • Herad realized he could persuade Archbishop Faol to lend him lightforging iron by telling him Stratholme would be destroyed by Arthas.
  • Alleria arrived at Karazhan, heard Herad’s plan, and warned him that Faol would not trust footage of a Bronze Dragon without stronger evidence.
  • Herad obtained footage from the Bronze Dragon Aspect and traveled to Stratholme to meet Faol.
  • Faol warmly welcomed Herad at the church, but Herad alarmed him by declaring that a great calamity would soon befall the city.

Ch. 206The tragedy of Stratholme in the Time Illusion 1

Herad showed Faol a Time Illusion of Stratholme’s destruction, where Prince Arthas ordered the city massacred after its people were stricken by plague. Faol witnessed Uther lose command and the army split, while Jaina joined Uther’s side.

  • Faol proudly showed Herad Stratholme, but Herad used an Hourglass to draw him into a Time Illusion of the city’s future.
  • Faol and Herad saw residents fall ill with vivid green vomit, and Faol mistook the plague for a rogue’s poison.
  • Herad spotted Uther and Prince Arthas arriving with an army, then brought Faol to the city gate.
  • Arthas ordered the massacre, relieved Uther of command, and drove soldiers away from his side as they refused to attack civilians.
  • Jaina left Arthas and walked toward Uther’s camp, while Faol and Herad watched the army divide.

Ch. 207The tragedy of Stratholme in the time illusion, part 2

Prince Arthas massacred Stratholme’s uninfected residents while the Dreadlord manipulated him from a distance. After the city was destroyed and over a million people had died, Arthas vowed to pursue the demon to Northrend.

  • Uther and Jaina left Arthas, who entered Stratholme with only his most devoted troops.
  • Arthas killed civilians and children with the Might of Menethil, while his soldiers looted, assaulted, and abducted residents before setting fires across the city.
  • The Dreadlord avoided fighting Arthas and taunted him, steering him toward a confrontation in Northrend.
  • Arthas vowed to hunt down the Dreadlord, while Stratholme burned and over a million people died.

Ch. 208Convincing Archbishop Faol

Archbishop Faol saw Arthas's soldiers loot and burn Stratholme, then asked Herad to help him hunt the Dreadlords. Herad brought Faol to Draenor, where he met X'era and saw the captured Sire Denathrius, whom Faol suspected was the demons' creator.

  • Faol watched Lordaeron's soldiers leave burning Stratholme with loot and condemned Prince Arthas for authorizing the massacre.
  • Faol asked Herad how to kill the Dreadlords, and Herad offered to use his captured Sire Denathrius to lure some to their deaths.
  • Herad opened a Temporary Portal to the Temple of Karabor, where X'era complained that she wanted to fight Fel Orcs.
  • Faol recognized that they were on Draenor, and Herad introduced X'era and described her past victories in Revendreth.
  • X'era showed Faol her enormous talking Greatsword, and Faol suspected its imprisoned, arrogant owner was the Dreadlords' creator.

Ch. 209Activating the Holy Light Cannon

Herad borrowed lightforging iron from Faol and built a massive device to revive K'ara, the Dark Star, while holy-light spellcasters charged it. The Holy Light Cannon struck K'ara, and Herad prepared to deal with any powerful beings drawn by the spectacle.

  • Faol took Herad to Light's Hope Chapel, where Herad saw the Church of the Holy Light's vast stockpile of lightforging iron and proposed forging it into armor for paladins.
  • Faol commissioned Herad to forge several sets of Lightforging Armor, and Herad collected the iron he needed before returning to Karazhan Mage Tower.
  • Herad and the arcane golems built a fifty-meter golden cylinder from lightforging iron mirrors in two days.
  • Faol, Velen, two naaru, and other holy-light spellcasters channeled holy light into the cylinder, which focused it into a beam that struck K'ara, the Dark Star.
  • As gold and purple energy clashed across the sky, Alleria worried that powerful beings would come, but Herad assured her he could handle the trouble.

Ch. 210Deathwing's Miserable Plight

Deathwing tried to aid K'ara against Herad's Holy Light cannon, but Herad's redirected beam badly injured him and forced him underground. Herad resumed purifying K'ara while Alleria held off felbats, and the high arakkoa watched from a distance.

  • Deathwing saw the clash over Shadowmoon Valley and flew to help K'ara, drawn to the Void's shadow energy.
  • Herad redirected the Holy Light cannon's beam toward Deathwing, burning through his Black Iron Armor and causing his magma blood to pour out.
  • Deathwing burrowed deep underground to escape the beam, and Herad returned to purifying K'ara.
  • High arakkoa who came to investigate saw Alleria shooting down felbats and chose to watch rather than approach.
  • Alleria used adamantite arrows to kill the attacking felbats with precise shots.

Ch. 211Purifying the Dark Star

Herad watched the Holy Light forces purify K'ara, the Dark Star, while the Arakkoa fought among themselves. K'ara was restored to a golden Naaru but remained stranded in orbit, and Velen continued seeking the Cipher of Damnation.

  • High Arakkoa spotted low Arakkoa and swooped down, starting a fight that soon moved away from the purification site.
  • Uther, Velen, X'era, K'ure, and the other Holy Light casters steadily weakened K'ara's Shadow Energy until the purple-black darkness vanished.
  • X'era and K'ure found that the restored K'ara responded sluggishly and could not be brought down from orbit, so they left him hanging above Shadowmoon Valley.
  • Velen remained at the Temple of Karabor and used the Skull of Gul'dan for divination in search of the Cipher of Damnation.
  • Herad reflected that Illidan had lost his chance to become a powerful Demon Hunter and might instead have a future as a Paladin.

Ch. 212An armor-bestowal ceremony that struck at the heart

Archbishop Faol held a ceremony to fit Uther with exceptionally durable Lightforged armor, leaving other paladins eager to receive their own suits. Herad remained focused on magical energy sources, while the chapter contrasted Dalaran’s limited power with the greater arcane reserves of other factions.

  • Archbishop Faol fitted Uther with a heavy suit of Lightforged armor and Uther pledged to become the Church of the Holy Light’s staunchest shield.
  • Uther endured sword, axe, and hammer strikes during a test, impressing the watching paladins with the armor’s defenses.
  • Several paladins expressed interest in Lightforged armor and were selected for tests, while powerful nobles resisted joining the church to honor King Terenas.
  • Herad, who had arranged armor for the paladins, remained unaware of their envy and considered arcane golems far more powerful than ordinary armor.
  • Herad reflected on how magical energy sources powered magical devices and judged Dalaran’s supply inferior to those of the High Elves, Night Elves, and Nightborne.

Ch. 213The assault on Hellfire Citadel 1

Herad found the Fel Orcs at Hellfire Citadel and opened a portal so X'era and a Golden Giant could attack them. The assault began with the giant crushing the citadel’s peons, while the Fel Orc warriors had yet to appear.

  • Herad grew frustrated as Silvermoon City's councilors continued debating whether to attack the Forest Trolls in the Hinterlands.
  • X'era reminded Herad to find the Fel Orcs, and he searched west from the Dark Portal through lands scorched by Deathwing.
  • Herad located the damaged Hellfire Citadel, identified it as the Fel Orcs' main base, and opened a temporary portal into its center.
  • X'era rushed through the portal, followed by a Golden Giant made from a Naaru and Large Arcane Golems.
  • The Golden Giant trampled the Fel Orc peons, shrugged off their hammers, and pursued them as they fled; it left them alone when Fel Orc warriors arrived.

Ch. 214Assault on Hellfire Citadel 2

X'era slaughtered the Fel Orc forces at Hellfire Citadel with devastating holy attacks, while Herad watched. The Fel Orc warlocks’ Infernal construct also failed to stop her, and the warlocks held back their remaining Infernal Stones.

  • X'era swept away charging Fel Orc peons and warriors with a golden pillar of light, then killed survivors with golden orbs.
  • X'era repeated her area attack as more Fel Orc warriors charged, burning them to ash, charcoal, or severe injury.
  • Fel Orc warlocks summoned an Infernal construct with an Infernal Stone, but X'era evaded its landing.
  • The Infernal construct roared after climbing from its crater, and X'era knocked it down and kicked it apart.
  • The watching Fel Orc warlocks realized the Infernal construct could not defeat X'era and refused to spend their remaining Infernal Stones.

Ch. 215A Crushing Rout

X'era destroyed most of the Fel Orc warlocks' Infernal Constructs while Herad's Small Arcane Golem intercepted and killed the fleeing warlocks. The golem then entered Hellfire Citadel and attacked the Fel Orc warriors inside.

  • The Fel Orc warlocks tried to flee, but X'era spotted them and forced them to abandon their hiding place.
  • The warlocks summoned six Infernal meteors, but X'era purified and destroyed most of them, then killed an Infernal Construct with Remornia.
  • The Fel Orc warlocks fled on Felsteeds, but Herad teleported the Small Arcane Golem to the gateway, where it killed them.
  • The Small Arcane Golem entered the city to harvest souls, and charging Fel Orc warriors attacked it.
  • The Small Arcane Golem spun through the warriors with Bladestorm, cutting them apart.

Ch. 216Setting sights on the Burning Legion's base

After Hellfire Citadel was reduced to ruins, Herad and X'era turned their attention to the Burning Legion's base in the Fel Mountains. Akama prepared the Ashtongue Deathsworn to destroy the fel cannons, newly armed with Herad's RPG launchers.

  • X'era demolished Hellfire Citadel while Herad watched the fel-corrupted land and considered the danger posed by the Burning Legion's base.
  • X'era proposed attacking the base north of the citadel to remove the source of the fel threatening Draenor.
  • Akama agreed to deploy the Ashtongue Deathsworn and destroy every fel cannon at the base.
  • Herad supplied weapon crates containing RPG launchers, which Draenei engineers examined with astonishment.
  • Akama test-fired an RPG through a thick steel plate and praised its potential for destroying fel cannons and armored demons.

Ch. 217Assault on the Fel Forge 1

Akama led the Ashtongue Deathsworn through a Temporary Portal to attack the Fel Forge, where they destroyed its Fel Cannons and cleared the way for X'era and the arcane golem to wreck the Burning Legion's portal. The demons at the Throne of Kil'jaeden could no longer send reinforcements here quickly.

  • The Ashtongue Deathsworn armed themselves with RPG-7 Rocket Launchers loaded with armor-piercing rounds and entered the Temporary Portal.
  • Akama led the Broken through a secluded valley and past the Felguards patrolling the Fel Forge.
  • At the signal to attack, the Ashtongue Deathsworn fired rockets that destroyed the Fel Cannons and unleashed deadly fel fire on nearby demons.
  • Herad opened a Temporary Portal beside the Burning Legion's portal, and X'era emerged and attacked the surviving demons.
  • X'era and the arcane golem destroyed the Burning Legion's portal, leaving demons at the Throne of Kil'jaeden without a quick way to reinforce the Fel Forge.

Ch. 218Attacking the Fel Forge 2

Herad, X'era, and the Broken destroyed the Burning Legion's portal and Fel Forges, while the demons could not send word or call for help. When reinforcements from the Throne of Kil'jaeden finally arrived, the attackers had taken all the useful metal and left only corpses and ruins.

  • Herad directed the Small Arcane Golem to kill Mo'arg engineers and capture their souls with Ulthalesh.
  • X'era destroyed the Fel Forges with golden beams, killing the demons who tried to defend them.
  • The Broken used rockets and hidden attacks to kill demons attempting to escape the Fel Forge area.
  • The Broken entered the ruins, ended the suffering of wounded demons, and collected usable metal from the wreckage.
  • Demons from the Throne of Kil'jaeden arrived to find only corpses and ruins, with the useful metal already taken.

Ch. 219The Cunning Demon Posing as a Felguard

After the Broken destroyed the Fel Forge, they harassed the demons with mines and rockets, but a powerful Fel Lord turned the hunt against them. Herad intervened with Elune’s divine power and killed the Fel Lord by piercing its shield with Stellar Shards.

  • The Broken ambushed demon forces with antipersonnel mines and portable rocket launchers, but their rockets failed to penetrate a charging Felguard’s armor.
  • The supposed Felguard revealed itself as a Fel Lord, broke the Broken’s invisibility with a fel storm, and drove them into retreat.
  • Herad used arcane Stellar Shards to bombard the Fel Lord and give the Broken time to escape and turn invisible again.
  • The Fel Lord raised a Fel Shield to withstand Herad’s arcane attacks while searching for the Broken.
  • Herad called down divine power from Elune to strengthen the Stellar Shards, which pierced the Fel Shield and annihilated the Fel Lord’s head.

Ch. 220Destroying the Throne of Kil'jaeden

Herad, X'era, and the Small Arcane Golem attacked and captured the Throne of Kil'jaeden, destroying its Fel-storing obelisks before the Portal Array could be activated. Herad recorded the intact array and guessed it might lead to a demiplane like Mardum.

  • After confirming the Throne of Kil'jaeden was thinly defended, the Broken attacked its perimeter while Herad teleported X'era and the Small Arcane Golem inside.
  • X'era and the Small Arcane Golem destroyed the Fel-storing obelisks, carefully preventing the broken structures from spilling more concentrated Fel.
  • The Small Arcane Golem and X'era fought off the Demons, killing the defenders and defeating the occasional Fel Lord.
  • The attackers captured the Throne of Kil'jaeden, and X'era began purifying the obelisks while the Broken collected weapons and armor.
  • Herad recorded the intact Portal Array and reasoned that it might lead to a demiplane like Mardum rather than Argus.

Ch. 221Locking onto the Shattered World of Mardum

Herad destroyed the Fel Anti-Aircraft Cannon and learned that purified fel steel could equip the Broken as they raided Burning Legion bases. He then prepared to take the war to Mardum and seize the Sargerite Keystone from Spider Queen Tyranna.

  • Herad damaged the Fel Anti-Aircraft Cannon’s energy circuits, causing it to explode and destroy much of the Throne of Kil'jaeden.
  • Two Naaru purified fel metal in Karabor, and the Broken recognized the resulting steel as valuable material for weapons and ammunition.
  • The Broken continued raiding Burning Legion bases, using captured resources to sustain their war.
  • Herad identified Mardum as the Legion world behind Draenor’s invasion and planned a blitzkrieg there.
  • Herad resolved to kill Spider Queen Tyranna and take the Sargerite Keystone, while Tyranna sensed that danger was approaching.
