Wen Xiancheng returned to his rented room and began cultivating.
He had no idea that a conspiracy was taking shape against him.
The next morning, just as he had the day before, he went out after breakfast.
Once again, he did not bring Xiao Xiao.
He did not want to become dependent on Xiao Xiao.
Xiao Xiao did not belong to him, but to Zhang Lu, the leader of Iceheart Hall.
If he could not pass Zhang Lu's assessment before the new year, Xiao Xiao would have to go back, too.
When that happened, he would still have to face everything alone.
This time, Wen Xiancheng did not make any phone calls.
He began targeting academies that specialized in teaching martial artists how to cultivate.
After thinking it over the previous night, he felt that the chances of getting commissions for customized kindergarten and elementary school textbooks were rather slim.
The reason was simple: during summer vacation, those teachers, kindergarten directors, and school principals had no time to deal with such things.
But most academies that taught martial cultivation remained open during summer vacation.
The Royal Academy was one example.
Although quite a few disciples went away to have fun over summer vacation, that was not true of everyone.
The vast majority of teachers and disciples stayed at the academy to cultivate.
Perhaps visiting these academies in person to recommend lessons using Illusion Arts would get results.
Some moves could be demonstrated entirely through Illusion Arts.
It was somewhat similar to a video recording.
This world also had video cameras, computers, televisions, and the like.
However, they ran on spirit stones rather than electricity.
Still, demonstrations using Illusion Arts were clearly better than recordings.
The reason was simple: recordings were nothing more than cold images on a screen.
Illusion Arts, however, allowed people to experience things as though they were right there!
Wen Xiancheng's first targets were two cultivation academies in the northern corner of the Imperial City.
This time, however, he ran into danger.
The security guards at both academies refused to let him inside.
The guards at one academy even brought over members of the law enforcement squad, claiming he was a suspicious individual.
The law enforcement officers chased Wen Xiancheng for two whole streets!
Now, in an alley, two members of the law enforcement squad walked suspiciously past a lush patch of ivy.
"Where did he go?"
"That kid clearly ran into this alley!"
Only after the two officers left the alley did that lush patch of ivy eerily disappear.
Wen Xiancheng braced both hands on his knees and panted heavily, his legs feeling weak.
This won't do!
He had discovered a very serious problem!
Illusion Arts could indeed fool some people.
The ivy he had just conjured with Illusion Arts, for example, had fooled both officers despite the flaws in his execution.
In that respect, Illusion Arts were certainly useful.
But Wen Xiancheng's body was still no different from an ordinary person's.
After running just two streets, he felt as though his legs were about to snap!
Wen Xiancheng raised his head and looked toward the end of the alley.
If the officers appeared now, he would be done for.
So sufficient stamina was also essential!
It seemed that, no matter how poor his aptitude for cultivation was, he would have to do his best to learn some other techniques that could strengthen his body.
Otherwise, if he relied on Illusion Arts alone and actually ended up in a fight, he would likely be killed in an instant if he failed to fool his opponent!
After recording this decision in his phone's notes, Wen Xiancheng left the alley and prepared to head back.
He had wasted an entire morning. He had to return to his rented room and continue practicing what was in Iceheart Hall leader Zhang Lu's notes.
Just as Wen Xiancheng reached the bus stop, a girl with dyed chestnut waves came straight toward him, her head lowered as she played on her phone.
Wen Xiancheng frowned slightly and quickly stepped aside.
The girl fell headfirst to the ground with a shriek.
Her knees scraped across the pavement, leaving two bloody abrasions.
Seeing this, the men and women at the bus stop gathered around her.
Several young men hurriedly offered tissues and fussed over her.
"Are you all right, miss?"
"Wipe your wounds. Shall I take you to the hospital?"
Wen Xiancheng glanced at the girl, then continued watching the passing vehicles.
He did not like fawning over people.
He had not knocked that girl down, either.
If she played on her phone while walking without even looking where she was going, who else was going to fall if not her?
Besides, she had more than enough people caring for her. She did not need him as well.
Looking past the wall of people at Wen Xiancheng, who stood nearby with his back to her, the girl ground her teeth in hatred!
Scumbag!
Loser!
A delicate beauty like me was falling into your arms, and you actually dodged!
I fell right at your feet and got hurt, yet you walked away as though nothing had happened!
How could any girl choose someone like you?
It made no sense!
The girl was none other than Su Qinghuang, who had previously been with Xu Junfeng.
Forcing a smile, Su Qinghuang declined everyone's kindness and limped over to Wen Xiancheng. Suppressing her anger, she said, "Handsome, aren't you going a little too far? I fell right in front of you and scraped my knees bloody, yet you didn't even lend a hand. You just stood here calmly waiting for the bus?"
Wen Xiancheng glanced in confusion at the murderous looks directed at him from all around, then pointed at himself. "Are you talking to me?"
Su Qinghuang's face darkened. "If I'm not talking to you, am I talking to thin air?"
Wen Xiancheng's expression turned unfriendly. "First, you fell because you were looking at your phone while walking. How is that my fault?"
"Second, the moment you fell, all these people went over to fuss over you. Did you need me getting in their way?"
"Third, it looks to me like your fall didn't hurt all that much. Other people were kind enough to help you, but instead of appreciating it, you came all the way over here to bother me. What exactly are you trying to do?"
"You! Don't you know how to cherish a fragrant flower and protect a precious jade?" Su Qinghuang demanded angrily.
Wen Xiancheng shook his head. "Sorry, I only cherish flowers and protect jade when it comes to girls I like. I can't treat everyone that way. Besides, in my eyes, you're neither a fragrant flower nor precious jade. At most, you're an unreasonable, overbearing rich girl making a fuss."
"You!" Su Qinghuang raised her hand to slap him.
Wen Xiancheng's eyes widened slightly, and the spiritual energy inside him surged wildly.
The next instant, screams erupted all around them.
An enormous python as thick as an arm had appeared, coiled around Su Qinghuang!
Flicking its forked tongue, the python looked down at Su Qinghuang from above, poised to attack at any moment.
Su Qinghuang stared blankly at the python. Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted from fright, collapsing to the ground.
Wen Xiancheng: "..."
Wasn't she a little too timid?
It was only an illusion!
Besides, anyone who looked a little more closely would notice that the python was somewhat insubstantial!
But she had already fainted, so saying any of that was pointless.
Wen Xiancheng crouched down, took Su Qinghuang's wrist in his right hand, and slowly fed spiritual energy through his fingers into her pulse point.
This was Qi Transfer, the most basic of the Healing Arts in Iceheart Hall leader Zhang Lu's notebook!
Spiritual energy was a truly wondrous thing.
It could be used for more than fighting.
It could also treat illnesses and save lives.
Seeing Wen Xiancheng crouch down to help her, the people nearby gathered around.
Less than thirty seconds after Wen Xiancheng began transferring spiritual energy into her, Su Qinghuang slowly regained consciousness.
People all around let out breaths of relief.
A middle-aged woman gave Wen Xiancheng a thumbs-up. "Impressive, young man!"
Wen Xiancheng smiled, released Su Qinghuang's wrist, and stood up to leave.
