Ch. 121The Death of the Court Mage

After Haglin was found murdered in Stormwind Keep, Karin suspected the summoning circle in his study had brought a demon that killed him. Medivh took responsibility for hunting the creature, while Karin noticed evidence that Haglin’s heart wound came from a sharp weapon rather than a demon’s claws.

  • Karin visited Medivh and noticed that Glamdring glowed faintly and Medivh cast two shadows.
  • Medivh led Karin to Haglin’s wrecked study, where King Llane, Anduin Lothar, and nobles examined the dead court Mage.
  • A maid told Lothar she had heard Haglin scream and something break through a window.
  • Karin identified the runes as a demon-summoning array and suggested the summoned demon had killed Haglin before escaping.
  • Medivh flew out through the broken window to hunt the supposed demon, while Karin examined Haglin’s regular heart wound and recognized it as a weapon cut.

Ch. 122Satyr

Karin examined Archmage Haglin’s murder scene and suspected that the satyr Medivh brought back was only a scapegoat. Medivh collapsed after declining King Llane’s victory banquet, while Karin’s sword showed no sign of corruption and scouts reported finding the orc army.

  • King Llane asked whether soldiers should be sent to help Medivh, but Anduin Lothar said they would only burden him.
  • Karin inspected Haglin’s body and inactive protective arrays, concluding that the Court Mage had likely been killed instantly.
  • Medivh returned with a dead satyr and claimed his assistant had helped him find it; Karin suspected the demon was not Haglin’s true killer.
  • Medivh identified the corpse as a satyr, and King Llane and the nobles accepted his account and praised him.
  • Medivh refused a victory banquet, then collapsed; Karin checked Glamdring, which remained steady and unlit, as Llane called for Bishop Benedictus.
  • Scouts reported to King Llane and Lothar that they had found traces of the orc army.

Ch. 123The Orc Army

The Orc army overwhelmed Darkshire and swept through most of Elwynn Forest, forcing Anduin Lothar to prepare Stormwind City for a decisive battle. While Medivh remained unconscious, Karin stayed in the city, wrote carefully worded letters to Dalaran, and received visits from nobles eager to meet the mage’s assistant.

  • Orcs attacked Darkshire, killed Baron Ladimore, and routed its garrison before their nearly thirty-thousand-strong army advanced toward Stormwind City.
  • Anduin Lothar evacuated Elwynn Forest’s civilians and sent cavalry to harass the Orcs, while King Llane backed his plan and ordered news of Haglin’s death suppressed.
  • The Orcs advanced faster than expected, overcame human raids with Warlock magic and Worg-mounted Wolf Riders, and occupied most of Elwynn Forest within five days.
  • Lothar oversaw Stormwind City’s defenses as the Orc army approached, while Medivh remained unconscious despite Bishop Benedictus’s examination.
  • Karin wrote tactful letters to Dalaran and politely entertained nobles who visited him as Medivh’s assistant, including several young noblewomen who seemed to be courting him.

Ch. 124Siege

Anduin Lothar and King Llane Wrynn defended Stormwind City against Blackhand's Horde as Infernals broke through the gates. With the Orcs pouring into the city, the awakened Medivh began casting an Ancient Spell to protect the kingdom.

  • Anduin Lothar ordered catapults, archers, and mages to attack Blackhand's advancing Horde, but Orc warlocks summoned Infernals that battered down Stormwind City's gates and killed defenders.
  • King Llane Wrynn and Prince Varian joined the defenders, bolstering their morale, and Lothar charged an Infernal with Quel'Zaram and cleaved it in two.
  • An Orcs Assassin attacked Llane, who shielded Varian and drove her off, though she wounded him.
  • A guard reported that the gates had been breached, and Lothar prepared the defenders for street fighting as the Horde surged into the city.
  • Medivh emerged from his coma with his Elf Assistant, raised Atiesh, and began an Ancient Spell as dark clouds gathered overhead.

Ch. 125Garona

Garona survived Medivh’s devastating spell and decided to seek out the mage in hopes that he could free her from Gul’dan. After Medivh exhausted himself, Karin used Atiesh to transform into a crow and carried him south.

  • Garona’s assassination attempt against the human commander failed, and she hid from Gul’dan’s punishment and the battle.
  • Garona drank a protective potion as Medivh’s flames swept across the battlefield, killing thousands of orcs.
  • After surviving the fire, Garona resolved to learn the powerful mage’s name and whereabouts so he could kill Gul’dan.
  • Medivh thanked King Llane, then handed Atiesh to Karin and told him where to find a book in the library.
  • Karin recalled the Polymorph: Crow spell, transformed into a giant crow, and flew south with Medivh on his back.

Ch. 126Return to Karazhan

Karin brought the unconscious Medivh back to Karazhan after Medivh exhausted his mental energy, and wondered whether killing him could also destroy Sargeras. Medivh awoke with little memory of what happened, while Karin later opened a restrained book that came to life and chased him through the library.

  • Karin carried Medivh from Stormwind City to Karazhan and rejected the idea of killing him to stop Sargeras.
  • Moroes hurried Medivh to his study, where Moroes and Kuke tried to revive him with broth and ale.
  • Medivh awoke, ate the broth, and recognized Karin as his assistant but could not remember what had happened.
  • Moroes told Karin not to explain the events to Medivh because he would forget them anyway.
  • Karin found Medivh's book about Imprisonment in the library and released a monster that chased him.

Ch. 127The song of Aegwynn

Karin spent months studying Medivh’s enchanted library while the orc threat grew and Dalaran sent Kel'Thuzad and Khadgar to aid Azeroth. When Karin opened Medivh’s notebook, he was drawn into a vision of Aegwynn confronting a demon army in Northrend.

  • Karin exhausted the biting book’s arcane energy, read it, and spent a week studying its contents before searching Medivh’s library for valuable books.
  • Karin encountered books protected by spells, including one that evaded him, one that would not open, and one that changed its appearance.
  • Lothar’s scouts reported that more orcs might be arriving through the Dark Portal, and Dalaran sent Kel'Thuzad and Khadgar with an elite mage unit to support Azeroth.
  • Karin found Medivh’s locked notebook in the library and used techniques from “Snares and locks” to open it.
  • Karin read the words “The song of Aegwynn!” and lost consciousness, then awoke in a soul state within a vision of Northrend.
  • Karin recognized Aegwynn as she faced a demon army, summoned dragons, and prepared for battle.

Ch. 128The intruder

Karin saw an illusion of Aegwynn's battle with Sargeras, then captured a cloaked intruder in Karazhan and discovered she was Garona, a half-orc seeking to betray Gul'dan. Medivh returned, revealed his plans for Garona, and assigned Karin to help Moroes organize a grand banquet.

  • Karin watched an illusion show Aegwynn defeat Sargeras's physical body before Sargeras's soul possessed her.
  • Karin heard an intruder fleeing through Karazhan, trapped the figure with an Imprisonment spell, and fought her when she escaped.
  • Karin and the intruder exchanged spells and blows until Moroes intervened and identified her as the Astral Plane Mage's guest.
  • Medivh returned to Karazhan and introduced the intruder as Garona, a former slave of Gul'dan who planned to betray him.
  • Medivh said he would take Garona to Stormwind City to meet Llane and asked Karin to help Moroes arrange a grand banquet.

Ch. 129The Curator

Karin discovered that Sargeras planned to hold a banquet at Karazhan in seven days, then studied a book on animating constructs and reworked a giant Arcane Construct. He left the construct’s old security program unfinished as he began replacing its rules.

  • Karin realized that Medivh had been Sargeras and worried about the upcoming banquet at Karazhan.
  • Karin cut open the troublesome Blue Book and found a volume about animating constructs and configuring intelligent magic.
  • Moroes told Karin that he and Kuke were going to Darkshire to hire Atumen as a Stablehand for the banquet.
  • Kuke told Karin about a broken giant construct in the Exhibition Hall, and Karin went to inspect it.
  • After three days, Karin completed his modified Arcane Construct, activated it, and then shut it down to replace its old rules.

Ch. 130The feast

Karin helped host a lavish banquet at Karazhan while “Medivh” remained absent, and the gathering ended with the arrival of a woman who looked exactly like the figure from Karin’s illusion. Moroes knelt before her as Atumen and Karin watched her approach.

  • “Medivh” returned to Karazhan without Garona, while Karin had already sent coded letters to Kel'Thuzad and Khadgar.
  • Moroes and Kuke prepared the tower for a banquet, with Atumen bringing horses and stable hands and an opera troupe arriving from Lakeshire.
  • The nobles watched a performance of “Little Red Riding Hood” and praised the opera and “Medivh,” who stayed away.
  • Koira offered Karin wine, then Lady Katrina propositioned him, and Karin rejected both women.
  • Atumen spotted the arriving golden-haired woman in a silver hood and called her a goddess, while Moroes fell to his knees.

Ch. 131That woman

Magna Aegwynn confronted Medivh in Karazhan and discovered that Sargeras controlled her son's body. As Sargeras attacked her and ordered everyone in the tower killed, Karin sent a warning to Kel'Thuzad and revealed the Curator.

  • Magna Aegwynn reunited with Moroes and demanded to see Medivh, while Karin warned Atumen to leave Karazhan.
  • Karin used the magical paper to tell Kel'Thuzad to act ahead of schedule, then revealed the Curator.
  • Aegwynn accused Medivh of opening the Dark Portal and bringing the Orcs into the world.
  • Medivh revealed that he was Sargeras, who had possessed him since before his birth and killed several people.
  • Sargeras overpowered Aegwynn, aged her rapidly, and ordered everyone in the tower killed.

Ch. 132Karazhan's cellar

Karin took the Curator into Karazhan's cellar and slaughtered the demons Sargeras had imprisoned there. As the last demons fell, heavy footsteps sounded above, leaving Karin facing the next threat.

  • Karin left Karazhan with the Curator and ordered it to follow him to the cellar.
  • Karin used the Ancient Spell "Unlock" to open the protected cellar entrance, then killed the chained Satyr Tristan Felhoof.
  • Karin found demons and human remains throughout the cellar and realized Sargeras had kept the demons restrained there.
  • Karin ordered the Curator to kill the imprisoned demons and joined in, cutting down a Succubus and the others with Glamdring.
  • After the demons were dead, Karin heard heavy footsteps above the cellar.

Ch. 133Massacre

Sargeras took control of Medivh, killed Moroes, and slaughtered the nobles gathered in Karazhan. After Karin killed the demons in the cellar, Sargeras confronted him and praised his unexpected resistance.

  • Sargeras told Moroes that he was possessing Medivh, then killed the old steward when Moroes attacked him.
  • Kuke found Moroes's body and, terrified, plunged a rusty blade into her own heart.
  • Sargeras appeared before the nobles in Karazhan, killed Duke Crispin and Miss Koira, and burned the hall with Atiesh.
  • Sargeras sensed that Karin had caused him trouble and went to confront him in the cellar.
  • Karin stood among the demon corpses as Sargeras arrived, applauded, and praised him for the surprise.

Ch. 134Join the Legion?

Karin lured Sargeras outside Karazhan, where Medivh’s demon protection ward blocked his entry, but the ward began to fail. As Sargeras again demanded that Karin join the Burning Legion or die, Karin broke through to the sixth ring and the All-Knowing Eye reappeared in his mind.

  • Sargeras offered Karin great power if he joined the Burning Legion, but Karin ordered the Curator to attack and escaped with a Teleportation Spell.
  • Sargeras easily damaged the Curator, while Karin fled to the opera hall and found the invited nobles dead, including Miss Koira.
  • Karin drew Sargeras outside Karazhan, where the demon protection ward drove him back and prevented him from entering.
  • Sargeras began forcing his way through the ward and offered Karin one last chance to join the Legion or die.
  • Karin broke through to the sixth ring, then heard the All-Knowing Eye announce its return.

Ch. 135The Only Chance

Karin awakened the All-Knowing Eye and used its calculations to find a way to escape Sargeras. He exploited Medivh’s grief over Moroes and Kuke to make the mage resist Sargeras, then fled toward the chained gryphon atop Karazhan.

  • Karin asked the awakened All-Knowing Eye to calculate his odds of survival, and it warned that Sargeras would almost certainly kill him.
  • The All-Knowing Eye identified using people Medivh cared about to disrupt Sargeras’s control as Karin’s best chance.
  • Karin found Moroes and Kuke dead, lifted their bodies, and carried them downstairs despite his grief.
  • Karin dropped Moroes’s and Kuke’s bodies before Sargeras, prompting Medivh to fight back against Sargeras’s control.
  • Karin chanted spells concerning the mind and soul to intensify Sargeras’s struggle with Medivh, then followed the All-Knowing Eye’s advice and ran toward the gryphon at Karazhan’s summit.

Ch. 136Escape

Karin escaped Karazhan on a Golden Gryphon, but Sargeras called it back, forcing Karin to land in the Redridge Mountains. While hiding from Orcs at a looted farm, he learned that three major Horde clans were searching for him and was nearly discovered.

  • Karin unlocked the Golden Gryphon's chain and flew toward Stormwind, but the Gryphon became uncontrollable and turned back toward Karazhan, so Karin jumped off with Slow Fall.
  • Karin crossed the Redridge Mountains and found a farm devastated by Orcs.
  • The All-Knowing Eye warned Karin that roughly two hundred hostile Orcs were approaching, so he hid inside the farm.
  • Orcs settled at the farm, and Karin overheard them say three Horde clans had been mobilized to find a fugitive matching his description.
  • Two Orcs in Karin's room noticed a strange smell and turned toward his hiding place.

Ch. 137Tracks

Karin escaped an Orc camp after killing two guards and setting the farm ablaze, but the Orcs tracked his scent with a white war wolf. The Orc force caught up behind him, and Karin prepared to fight.

  • Karin killed two Orcs with an improved Imprisonment spell and took black bread from their supplies.
  • Karin tried to sneak out of the farm, but an Orc Scout spotted him after he kicked a stone and sounded the alarm.
  • Karin knocked down the Scout, set the camp ablaze with an enhanced Pyroblast, and escaped amid the chaos.
  • The Orc leader found the two dead guards and sent White Fang to track Karin's scent without alerting the other clans.
  • The All-Knowing Eye warned Karin that the Orcs were approaching, and Karin recognized the leader and white wolf before preparing for battle.

Ch. 138Kel'Thuzad

Karin ambushed the orcs from a cliff, killing their warlocks and breaking their attack. Kel'Thuzad arrived to cut off the fleeing orcs, and the two mages killed nearly all of them.

  • Karin prepared Icy Veins and Arcane Empowerment as the orcs followed Whitefang toward his decoy clothing.
  • Karin struck the gathered orcs with a Pyroblast, then defeated one warlock with Arcane Missiles.
  • A second warlock summoned a hellhound, but Karin killed it with Glamdring and used Imprisonment to defeat both warlocks.
  • The orcs fled, but Kel'Thuzad blocked their escape with Multiple Arcane Missiles while Karin attacked from above.
  • Karin and Kel'Thuzad killed nearly all the orcs, and Kel'Thuzad revealed his face to Karin.

Ch. 139Khadgar's helplessness

Khadgar warned King Llane that Medivh was possessed by Sargeras and had opened the Dark Portal, but the king refused to believe him. Anduin Lothar privately revealed that he had once seen Medivh take on a demonic form, then led Khadgar to a gathering of gryphons.

  • Khadgar went to Stormwind Keep and accused Garona of being an orc spy sent by Medivh.
  • Khadgar told King Llane and his court that Karin had discovered Medivh was Sargeras and that Medivh had opened the Dark Portal.
  • King Llane dismissed Khadgar's warning and had him leave the palace, while Garona defended Medivh.
  • Khadgar returned to his room and prepared to go to Karazhan to find Karin and Kel'Thuzad.
  • Anduin Lothar privately told Khadgar he had once seen Medivh in a demonic form, then led him to a square with more than a dozen gryphons.

Ch. 140Return to Karazhan

Karin reunited with Kel'Thuzad and Khadgar as Anduin Lothar gathered Stormwind reinforcements to confront the possessed Medivh. The group reached Karazhan at night, preparing to face Sargeras before he could consume Medivh's soul completely.

  • Anduin Lothar told Khadgar that he had long suspected Medivh had changed, and Khadgar explained that Sargeras possessed him.
  • Kel'Thuzad tested Karin's identity, then agreed to find Khadgar and return to Karazhan to stop Sargeras.
  • Khadgar and Anduin Lothar reunited with Karin and Kel'Thuzad, and Karin recounted what had happened in Karazhan while hiding the All-Knowing Eye.
  • Karin showed Anduin Lothar Glamdring and urged him to fight Medivh if necessary, and Lothar prepared to lead his guards onward.
  • Karin, Kel'Thuzad, Khadgar, Anduin Lothar, and the Stormwind warriors flew through war-scarred lands and arrived at Karazhan as night fell.
