"Okay."
Once the agent left, Lawyer He went to find Ji Xiangchen and Fang Ning.
Lawyer He also followed entertainment industry news. Ji Xiangchen had clashed with Zhou Lu before, so he knew Ji Xiangchen came from a wealthy family, but he had paid little attention to Fang Ning's background.
The company had told him long ago that, no matter what happened, he had to secure the best possible outcome for Zhou Lu. After all, Zhou Lu was currently supporting the entire entertainment company.
After all, he was used to doing this sort of thing.
Relying on his status as the entertainment company's top star, Zhou Lu had caused plenty of trouble.
Lawyer He had handled it all, regardless of who was at fault or anything else. Whether Zhou Lu was getting criticized or whatever else, all that mattered was generating buzz. Buzz was all they needed.
After doing it enough times, he had gotten used to it.
So, as soon as Lawyer He found Fang Ning and Ji Xiangchen, he addressed them in his usual threatening tone. "You're both public figures, and so is my client. Escalating this won't benefit either side."
"We aren't asking for much. We only want you to apologize publicly to my client and compensate him for his medical expenses."
"If you refuse, we will pursue this to the very end."
This approach had been extremely effective before, and he had used it without a hitch. After all, few could stand up to a corporation with as much capital as the Star Entertainment Industry Company.
But what Lawyer He didn't know was that, besides the Star Entertainment Industry Company, there were other, even bigger financial powers.
Fang Ning and Ji Xiangchen didn't give the lawyer the time of day. In fact, they had noticed him long ago.
A lawyer hired by that idiot Zhou Lu, who kept threatening people at the drop of a hat? As if they would bother with him.
Instead, they discussed when Ji Xiangyi would arrive, ignoring Lawyer He completely.
Fang Ning thought Ji Xiangyi would arrive soon. She was a career-driven female lead, after all. Why would she dawdle? "I think she'll be here in a bit."
Ji Xiangyi didn't think so, however. Ji Xiangyi was such a cold woman that he felt she wouldn't just refuse to come save them-she would kick them both while they were down!
He coldly threw a bucket of cold water over Fang Ning's hopes:
"Don't get your hopes up. She won't come. We should call the company and have them send someone over. That would be much more reliable than Ji Xiangyi!"
Fang Ning was indignant. "How can you have so little faith in your twin sister!"
"..."
The two kept talking past each other, treating Lawyer He as though he couldn't possibly be any more invisible!
Lawyer He felt these two were going to infuriate him to death!
Having reached his current position, he had never been treated like this before! Lawyer He was so angry that he wanted to slam his documents onto their heads!
Lawyer He could bear it no longer and saw no need to. He delivered his final ultimatum. "Since neither of you wishes to cooperate, we'll have to see you in court. Ji Xiangchen, Fang Ning, you assaulted my client. Don't think this will end so easily."
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Ji Xiangyi had arrived, followed by a man in a smart suit who looked like a lawyer.
Ji Xiangyi and the lawyer sat down. Lawyer He's expression changed when he saw the lawyer she had brought. "Senior Lin, what brings you here?"
He was a renowned senior from their law school. During his student days, he had been president of the law school's student council. His outstanding looks, grades, and abilities had made him very well known at the university.
Of course, he was still famous now. He had opened a law firm and was highly renowned in the industry. Lawyer He had even interviewed at his firm before, but hadn't passed.
What he hadn't expected was that this man would actually be representing Ji Xiangchen and the others.
Lawyer Lin adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, his gaze sharp. "Junior He."
Ji Xiangyi didn't care about their whole senior-and-junior business
or their reunion after so long
as they met. She looked at Ji Xiangchen and Fang Ning. Right now, she only cared about
what exactly Ji Xiangchen and Fang Ning had done to land both of them in the station.
Ji Xiangyi noticed the bruises on Ji Xiangchen's face. Rather than comfort him, she mocked him. "What's this? You fought your way into the station? Impressive."
"Who's going to explain what actually happened?"
At Ji Xiangyi's question, the two began complaining to her about what had happened.
Neither would give way, griping about each other and quietly competing.
Fang Ning gave a brief account. "Basically, Ji Xiangchen was too weak and got beaten up, so I went to help him and joined the brawl. Then we both ended up here. The other side even sent a lawyer to threaten us. We wanted our agents to help us find a lawyer, but they wouldn't answer their phones, so we had to call you. Then you came, and that's where things stand."
In front of Ji Xiangyi, Ji Xiangchen could afford to lose face even less. He analyzed the situation in a chilly tone. "No, that's not it. I wasn't that weak. Fighting two on my own was just a little too much."
"Mm-hmm, sure, sure. You weren't weak, but they beat your face into a pig's head."
From their brief exchange, Ji Xiangyi pieced together the full story.
But Ji Xiangyi also noticed something else. The two seemed considerably more familiar in the way they spoke than before. At that thought, her gaze turned a little inscrutable.
It had only been a few short days, yet Ji Xiangchen and Fang Ning had already grown this close.
When Fang Ning spoke to Ji Xiangchen, her previous polite, distant tone was gone, replaced by a natural familiarity.
Ji Xiangchen was the same. Before, he had looked down his nose at everyone, acting like he was the greatest person alive. But now, he lowered his head to talk to Fang Ning. He had learned to look at people with his eyes.
Still, seeing how familiar Ji Xiangchen and Fang Ning were with each other, her gaze darkened, and she felt a little displeased.
Ji Xiangyi had little interest in listening to their account. In a largely even tone, she said, "That's enough. I understand what happened now."
