Fang Ning: "..."

Well, thank you so much, Ji siblings.

With no way out under the twin siblings' alternating verbal attacks, Fang Ning decided to stay in the hospital.

After suddenly getting into a fight and leaving the film set, she now had to stay in the hospital for a day or two. Returning to the set was out of the question for now.

Fang Ning called the director and explained the basic situation to him.

Director Wang did not give Fang Ning a hard time. After all, the incident had happened on his set, and most of Fang Ning's scenes had already been filmed. Only her final scene remained, so there was no rush.

After finishing that discussion with the director.

Fang Ning remembered the new role Director Wang had introduced to her earlier that day. She had already decided to give it a try and had originally intended to tell him about it.

Who knew a brawl would hold her up? After considering it, Fang Ning said slowly, "Director Wang, I've thought about your suggestion that I audition for Director Zhang. I'd like to give it a try."

Director Wang had not expected her to decide so quickly. Naturally, he was pleased to hear what Fang Ning said. "Good. I've already told Old Zhang a little about you."

"I'll send you Old Zhang's contact information in a moment. Go audition for him when you have some time over the next few days."

Fang Ning also valued efficiency. If she could avoid putting something off, she would. "All right, I'll find time to audition in the next couple of days. Sorry for the trouble, Director Wang."

That settled the matter.

Fang Ning hung up. Ji Xiangchen had been called back to the company by his manager, while Ji Xiangyi said a meeting had not finished yet and hurried back to her company to attend it. Once the two of them left.

She was the only person in the enormous, luxurious hospital room.

Fang Ning stretched and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Looking at the blue sky outside lifted her spirits considerably.

Rich people really fucking knew how to enjoy themselves. Even a hospital stay was this luxurious.

Having eaten nothing all day, Fang Ning picked up her phone to order herself some takeout, but just then, it rang.

Fang Ning thought the director had forgotten to tell her something else. Just as she was about to answer, she took a closer look.

No, it was not the director, but an unfamiliar phone number.

Ji Xiangyi's and Ji Xiangchen's numbers were already labeled in her phone. If it was neither of them, who was it?

The phone rang with particular urgency, as though someone needed her for some enormous emergency.

Puzzled, Fang Ning answered. "Hello."

"Hello, may I ask if this is Madam?" The voice on the phone was exceedingly respectful, its businesslike tone tinged with urgency. "I'm Chairman Ji's assistant."

Being suddenly addressed as Madam left Fang Ning rather bewildered, and she did not immediately react. After a second, she sorted out her thoughts: Chairman Ji, Ji Xiangnian, the female lead's older brother, her husband in name only. "Is something urgent?"

"Something has happened at Xiangzhou's school, and a parent needs to go deal with it. Chairman Ji is still in the United States and can't make it back in time. I called Xiangchen and Miss Xiangyi, but they must be busy, since neither answered. So I was hoping you could help by going there."

Xiangzhou, Ji Xiangzhou, the youngest child of the Ji Family, the female lead's younger brother.

"Me? That wouldn't be very appropriate, would it?" Fang Ning said instinctively.

She was not particularly willing to go,

First, she did not really count as a parent. She was only Ji Xiangnian's contract wife.

Second, she did not even know Ji Xiangzhou. It was not as though she had never gone through an adolescent phase herself. High schoolers hated people meddling too much. How annoying would it be for her to show up as his parent?

Neither Ji Xiangzhou nor Ji Xiangyi wanted to go. Perhaps Ji Xiangzhou was written as someone with a volatile temper. She was scared too.

The assistant understood what Fang Ning meant and had already anticipated this answer. The chairman had made arrangements for this in advance. "Here's the situation. The chairman hopes you can help. This is admittedly a somewhat unreasonable request, and he's willing to compensate you through your living allowance."

"Also, the chairman bought a piece of jewelry at an auction here in the United States yesterday. If possible, he'd be willing to give it to you as well, Madam."

Fang Ning: "Please tell me exactly what happened, and send me Ji Xiangzhou's school address while you're at it. I have nothing to do, so I can go right away."

After leaving the hospital, Ji Xiangyi told the driver, Uncle Chen, to go to the company. They had only gotten halfway through the discussion at the meeting, and she was still dissatisfied with several details. Once she returned, she would have to make them submit a revised proposal.

Negotiations over cooperation with the City B Government had been going on for several months.

Through the car window, Ji Xiangyi watched people strolling together in twos and threes, talking and laughing, her eyes lowered.

She had been far too tired lately. Company business and the matter with Zhao Cheng had left her exhausted, both physically and mentally.

Once this was over, she should give herself a vacation, go have fun and travel around. If possible, it would be best to have someone else along, to eat together and take pictures together at attractions all over the world.

As she thought about it, Fang Ning's face suddenly flashed through Ji Xiangyi's mind.

Ji Xiangyi herself froze. Why had she thought of Fang Ning...?

Before Ji Xiangyi could figure out why, the phone in her pocket rang.

Ji Xiangyi took out her phone and looked. It was Ji Xiangnian's assistant.

At once, the puzzlement in Ji Xiangyi's expression turned cold.

She was already annoyed, and now Ji Xiangnian had to bother her too.

In her memory, Ji Xiangnian's calls meant work that weighed on her until she could barely breathe, and a mass of irritating, endless lectures.

With a cold expression, Ji Xiangyi ended the call without a second's hesitation, then tossed her phone aside.

"Uncle Chen, drive faster. Back to the company."
