Background and History

Origins and the Xu Lineage

Originally a rogue cultivator of Kunlun, Xu Xuan retained only incomplete cultivation memories in his later lives. As Xu Changgeng, he lived as a commoner, continued his family through four generations, and left 103 direct descendants. At that lifetime’s end, he received the white fate register Extended Years and Long Life, which added forty years to his lifespan 1.

Reborn as Xu Daocheng within his own lineage, he awakened at birth. He found that the Grain Garment Art he had passed down had become a body-strengthening martial practice among descendants without spiritual roots. By improving its breathing method and quietly introducing cultivation principles, he increased the clan’s strength and became its acknowledged successor 2 3 4 49.

He also strengthened the household’s economy through improved rice cultivation, farming tools, looms, and trade. After discovering Xu Huai’en’s weak metal spiritual root, he began treating the lineage as a foundation that could produce increasingly capable cultivators over successive generations 5 6.

Xu Daocheng: Building a Cultivating Household

Xu Xuan married Liu Yun, a woman with a Water Spiritual Root whom he secretly taught to cultivate. Their alliance with her father’s Great Dragon Gang protected the Xu Trading Firm, while Xu Xuan’s Azure Mystery Gang expanded its influence 7.

Spirit stones and artifacts recovered from a hidden valley helped him open additional chakras and establish a Spirit-Gathering Formation on North Ridge Mountain. Nevertheless, poor aptitude and scarce resources eventually stalled him at the sixth meridian wheel. Even water essence orchids taken from a powerful python’s territory could not complete the breakthrough 8 11.

Wang Tong: Sect Service and Migration South

His third life began as Wang Tong, a tenant farmer from a collateral Xu branch in Hundred Fragrance Valley. He did not recover his past-life awareness until thirty-three. Using old jade slips and new spiritual-plant knowledge, he became a respected grower, married Yuan Zhilan, and gained access to additional resources 13 14.

Li Jiangping’s recommendation brought him into the Azure Wood Sect’s herb garden. There, his planting expertise and contribution during a demonic raid earned him promotion to steward disciple. He used his position to support Xu clansmen, distribute resources, and develop the Cloud Arrival Trading House 17 26 27 30.

Returning home, he reunited with the dying Liu Yun and accepted responsibility for her granddaughter Qingchan. After arranging Liu Yun’s burial beside his former identity, Xu Daocheng, he ordered the clan’s core members, artisans, wealth, texts, and spiritual seeds moved south to the Yue Kingdom 34.

He established the Lingyan Xu Lineage’s new foundation and finally reached Qi Refining at ninety-eight. Unable to advance much further, he prepared inheritances for a future incarnation and eventually withdrew into a peaceful old age 40 44 50.

Xu Chen: Emperor and Betrayed Disciple

In his fourth life, Xu Xuan was born as Xu Chen, son of the Marquis of Martial Might and Chen Jingxuan. His metal–earth dual spiritual root, Soaring Serpent bloodline, and fate registers gave him far greater potential than before. The imperial family considered his unusual totem ominous, and he grew up away from the capital on the northern frontier 44 45 49.

After cultivating at the Purple Sun Gate, he recovered his previous life’s inheritance and reconnected with the Lingyan Xu Lineage. Zhou Yongchang accepted him as a personal disciple, providing a powerful backer against imperial hostility 47 48 49 58.

Xu Xuan later allied with the Black Serpent Tribe after learning that the Chen Yue imperial family had stolen its deity’s bones and power. When Chen Tianyuan attacked the Xu Lineage, Xu Qingchan returned from the Jade Dragon Sword Sect, saved Xu Xuan, and declared herself his master 63 64.

Chosen as the Xu Kingdom’s ruler, he became founding emperor of the Great Xu Immortal Dynasty. He treated the throne chiefly as a source of fortune for cultivation, while Xu Mingxuan handled much of the dynasty’s administration. His reign included Foundation Establishment, conflict with the Heavenly Martial Kingdom, and territorial expansion 67 68 69 72 79.

After founding the Azure Mystery Sect in Yan, he killed the Blood Baleful Sect’s Xue Li and brought Wu under Yan’s control. He later suspected that Zhou Yongchang coveted his perfected foundation and Greenwood Spirit Body. His preparations failed to prevent betrayal: memories recovered in his next life show his Dao foundation being forcibly torn away. The Great Xu Kingdom was subsequently destroyed, and surviving descendants lived under another surname 82 97 103.

Yang Ye / Xue Ming: The Blood River Lineage

Reborn as Yang Ye, Xu Xuan possessed an innate fire spirit body and belonged to a family descended from the former Great Xu imperial line. He regained his knowledge early, improved the Yang Family’s cultivation arts and production methods, and helped it expand 103.

His use of Blood River True Intent attracted Blood Pupil, who accepted his claim to have inherited Xue Li’s legacy. Xu Xuan subsequently became True Person Xue Ku’s disciple under the name Xue Ming, then won the position of Blood Child 109 112 113 115.

He cultivated increasingly predatory methods, using Foundation Seizure to strengthen himself while preparing for the Blood Refinement Secret Realm. After reaching peak Foundation Establishment, he consumed the vitality of a Longevity Wood sealed in his previous life to remove dangerous impurities 117 119 123.

During his overseas activities, he discovered that Xu Qingchan had been reduced to a Sword Puppet serving Bai Ming. Forced to escape, he later resumed cultivating and quietly supporting Xu descendants. His search for the Guixu Sea Eye ultimately led him to a Void God Clan cultivator’s remains and the completion of Shadowless Sword Intent 126 127 128 134.

Appearance

Incarnation / Period Description
Xu Daocheng, age ten Slightly taller than his peers, with delicate features, a calm gaze, and an aura harmonious with nearby plants 3.
Xu Daocheng, youth Developed sharp features, a tall, straight figure, and clear eyes compared to autumn waters. His bearing became increasingly dignified 6 7.
Xu Daocheng, age fifty-five Had lightly frosted temples and age-marked brows, with a deep, mountainlike presence 11.
Xu Chen, emperor Handsome and powerfully built; ceremonial robes emphasized his imposing appearance 68.
Yang Ye, age fifteen Tall and straight, with youthful features contrasted by eyes suggesting extensive worldly experience 103.
  • Soaring Serpent Transformation: Dark azure scales cover his body, while azure light gathers around his feet like a serpent’s tail 77.
  • Protective sword mark: Xu Qingchan placed life-bound Sword Qi between his brows, leaving a vertical mark 72.

Personality

Xu Xuan is patient, calculating, and willing to work from a low position when it offers long-term advantages. As Wang Tong, he earned trust through useful work rather than demanding recognition; as Xu Chen, he supported Xu Mingxuan while advising against abruptly upsetting the clan’s factional balance 17 23 50.

Longevity takes precedence over rank. He regarded the imperial throne as a cultivation tool rather than his ultimate ambition, and designed succession around the most capable Xu descendant rather than automatic inheritance by the eldest son. These policies also prepared a stronger foundation for his next life 68 79.

His attachment to the Xu Lineage combines affection with practical planning. He continually supplies descendants with resources, leaves hidden inheritances, and cultivates promising juniors. His reunion with the dying Liu Yun reveals grief and gratitude beneath his usually controlled manner 34 92 128.

He is also ruthless and secretive. In his Blood River incarnation, he hunts compatible cultivators for their foundations and disguises Heart-Eroding True Intent cultivation as indulgence. When pursued by stronger enemies, he prioritizes concealment, irregular movements, and escape over direct confrontation 114 119 121.

Abilities and Skills

Reincarnation and the Book of Time

The Book of Time, also called the Book of a Hundred Lifetimes, preserves the record of his lives and provides fate-register benefits 1 44 78.

  • Enables successive incarnations through which he recovers previous cultivation knowledge 13 49 103.
  • Does not guarantee immediate memory awakening: Xu Changgeng awakened only at death, Wang Tong after thirty-three years, and Xu Chen gradually through childhood 49.
  • Lets him build advantages across lifetimes through bloodline development, inherited techniques, and concealed resource caches 5 49 92.

Fate Registers and Dynasty Fortune

  • Luminous Insight: Accelerates comprehension of techniques, spells, and divine abilities 45 74.

  • Wandering Spirit, Shadowless: Allows shadowless movement, evasion, concealment within the void, and assassination in a wandering-spirit state 134.
  • Dynasty fortune: Improves mental clarity, power control, and recognition of battle openings; it can also distribute injuries. It does not directly increase combat strength in the documented battle 77.

Body Rebirth Technique Orthodox body tempering that does not directly increase cultivation. At its third level, combined with his register, it made his body comparable to an ordinary magical artifact 44 47.
Azure Emperor Everlasting Body Used with dark nether true blood to achieve physical-body Foundation Establishment 71.
Five Aggregates Formless Sutra Refines five-element true spirits into five aggregates, ultimately seeking Formless True Intent and a path toward Purple Mansion and Golden Core 78.

Blood-Path and Mental Techniques

  • Blood Refining Foundation Seizure: Plunders compatible foundations, physiques, bloodlines, and vitality to strengthen himself 119 123.
  • Limitation: Excessive absorption accumulates resentment and impurities that can disturb his mind and damage his Dao foundation 123.

Concealment, Escape, and Auxiliary Arts

  • Practices Aura Concealment Art, Wind Command Art, and Lightness Art 5 25.
  • Uses illusory images carrying part of his aura to distract enemies while hiding, escaping, or preparing an attack 74.
  • Escaped Bai Ming through Blood-Burning Escape 126.
  • Studies alchemy, artifact refining, formations, talismans, puppets, beast taming, and ancient restrictions 114.
  • Reliably crafted low-grade Dust-Repelling and Lightness Talismans during his Azure Wood Sect years 22.
  • Uses trading houses and clan networks for intelligence, covert logistics, and acquisition of rare cultivation materials 30 51 59 75.
