Background / History
Three hundred years before its first appearance, Xu Nation was dominated by the Cloud Radiance Sect. White Cloud True One rose to prominence after forming his True Core, claimed the White Cloud Mountain Range, and established a third-tier grand formation there. White Cloud Immortal City consequently became Xu Nation’s second third-tier power and reduced Cloud Radiance Sect influence across the southwest. 50
The city was built around the White Cloud Mountain Range’s mid-grade Tier 3 spiritual vein, with several surrounding low-grade Tier 2 veins. Its growth made it a major base for cultivation families, independent cultivators, workshops, and merchants. 50 94
White Cloud True One sought to strengthen the city’s future by cooperating with the Wu Family, whose member Wu Zongdao possessed an Earth Spiritual Root. The Wu Family’s Great Elder remained in the city with selected disciples, both to finalize the agreement and preserve a branch of the family. 50
By the time of the Golden Cloud Valley operation, the city’s apparent prosperity concealed a succession crisis: White Cloud True One had been severely injured in the Nether Domain incident and had less than sixty years to live. The city sought the Essence Crystal Fungus so it could refine an Essence Crystallization Pill and improve Xing Huaian’s chance of forming a True Core. 155
Layout and Facilities
White Cloud Immortal City was a colossal, mountain-backed city spanning hundreds of miles. It wound upward in successive layers along White Cloud Mountain, while White Cloud True One’s Clearwater Grotto stood at the summit. 50 207
- Outer city — Contained commercial districts, Golden Springs Lane cave dwellings, West Square, Azure Cloud Hall, and Dan Hai Pavilion. 94 238
- Inner city — Protected by the contracted mountain-protection formation during the Beast Tide. 238
- White Cloud Mountain — A thousand-foot peak concealed by formations; housed the White Cloud Spirit Pool, library, Cloudpeak Hall, and White Cloud True One’s grotto. 98 127 207
- Cloudpeak Hall — External administrative venue and access point for the White Cloud Spirit Pool. 98
- Library — Seven-story repository containing cultivation techniques, secret arts, and cultivation-world records. 123 127
- Commercial district — Included Spirit Grass Pavilion, Hundred Crafts Pavilion, Spirit Treasure Courtyard, Hundred Treasures Pavilion, pill workshops, artifact-refining shops, and inns. 94 95 106
- Heavenly Star Hall — A new hall built after reconstruction; it contains a teleportation array linked with Heaven Han City. 740
Residency and Commerce
Entry required payment of fifty Spirit Essence for a one-year identity token. The token permitted unrestricted entry and exit during its validity period; the city earned at least ten thousand Spirit Stones annually through this system. 50
The city’s ambient spiritual energy reached Grade 1 upper-tier throughout its streets. Cultivators with sufficient resources could rent cave dwellings as high as Grade 2 upper-tier; a Grade 2 lower-tier dwelling cost fifty Spirit Stones annually. 94
As Xu Nation’s second-largest immortal city, White Cloud Immortal City hosted strongholds from major local powers. Its orderly shops and dense spiritual energy made it a favored long-term residence for cultivators. 94
Honored Guest System
| Rank | Benefits |
|---|---|
| Beginner Honored Guest | Free Tier 2 low-grade cave dwelling and annual stipend of 500 Spirit Stones. 123 |
| Intermediate Honored Guest | Free Tier 2 mid-grade cave dwelling, annual stipend of 1,000 Spirit Stones, library and Cloudpeak Hall access, and a 10% discount at city-controlled shops. 123 |
| Advanced Honored Guest | A recognized third tier of the system; specific benefits are not documented. 123 |
Zhou Xun became an intermediate Honored Guest after reaching Foundation Establishment, receiving an Azure Spirit Pill and an Honored Guest token from head steward Zhou Buqi. 123
Defenses
Mountain-Protection Grand Formation
The city’s principal defense was a mid-grade Tier 3 grand formation, created by South Peak True One. It could encompass the city in a massive barrier and was controlled through command flags, with the highest-authority flag held by White Cloud True One. 50 192 222
- Enforced an aerial prohibition: cultivators below True Core had to land roughly ten miles outside the city and enter on foot. 50
- Could manifest a Tier 3 mid-grade Firebird demon spirit, giving the city a combatant comparable to a mid-stage Core Formation cultivator. 234
- Repaired damaged barriers when activated through the formation control flag. 238
- Could contract from the outer city to the inner city, reducing the perimeter defenders needed to hold. 238
- Consumed enormous amounts of spiritual energy and Spirit Stones under sustained full-power defense, despite the support of the mid-grade Tier 3 spiritual vein. 224
Spiritual Vein Self-Destruction
The formation’s ultimate function linked it to White Cloud Mountain’s spiritual vein. White Cloud True One used this mechanism to detonate part of the vein, destroying the city and killing four Demon Kings; the surviving Azure Feather Demon King escaped severely injured. 243 244
Only a portion of the spiritual vein was detonated so that it could recover in roughly one hundred years and support the city’s eventual restoration. 243 252
Administration
- White Cloud True One — Founder, supreme authority, and master of the city’s formation; he later sacrificed himself during the city’s destruction. 50 222 243
- Zhou Buqi — Head steward responsible for mundane affairs, Honored Guest recruitment, and diplomacy with the Cloud Radiance Sect. 123 231
- Xing Huaian — White Cloud True One’s most promising disciple; entrusted with the city’s accumulated resources and its future reconstruction. He later formed a True Core and controlled the rebuilt city. 241 403 740
- Zhou Xun — Honored Guest, later elder and disciple of White Cloud True One; managed logistics during the Beast Tide and supported reconstruction. 221 233 403
- Yufeng True One / Liu Bo'an — Led city forces during the Golden Cloud Valley operation and Beast Tide defense. 144 234
Story Role / Major Arcs
Rise as Xu Nation’s Second Third-Tier Power
White Cloud Immortal City emerged as an independent power after White Cloud True One established himself in the White Cloud Mountain Range. Its existence directly challenged Cloud Radiance Sect’s monopoly over Xu Nation’s cultivation resources and influence. 50
Haven for Rogue Cultivators
The city became known as the “City of Rogue Cultivators” due to its inclusivity, prosperity, and ability to attract unruly independent cultivators. During the Beast Tide, this same population complicated compulsory mobilization. 163 221
Golden Cloud Valley and the Succession Crisis
The city dispatched multiple teams to secure the Essence Crystal Fungus, which was needed for an Essence Crystallization Pill that could help Xing Huaian become the next True Core guardian of the city. 155
First Beast Tide Defense
When the beast tide erupted from Hundred Savages Mountain, White Cloud Immortal City called nearby factions to shelter within its walls, conscripted all cultivators, requisitioned resources, and organized alchemists, talisman makers, and other skilled cultivators into defense teams. 221 222
Zhou Xun later commanded a mobile force of more than ten thousand cultivators, concentrating manpower to inflict heavy daily casualties on the demonic beast horde. The first assault ultimately retreated. 225 229
Second Siege and Fall
The Azure Feather Demon King returned with four other Demon Kings and surrounded the city. Although White Cloud True One, the Firebird demon spirit, city defenders, and Cloud Radiance Sect reinforcements held the walls for a time, the demons severely damaged the Firebird and weakened the formation. 234 236 240
After the outer city fell, White Cloud True One ordered a retreat into the inner city. Cloud Radiance Sect forces eventually chose to withdraw, leaving the city unable to resist the five Demon Kings. 238 240
White Cloud True One evacuated his disciples first, gave Xing Huaian the resources accumulated over centuries, then opened the formation’s exits for the remaining inhabitants to flee. 241 242
Destruction of White Cloud
White Cloud True One lured the Demon Kings to White Cloud Mountain and detonated part of its spiritual vein through the grand formation. The blast destroyed White Cloud Immortal City, killed four Demon Kings, buried nearby demonic beasts, and ended the immediate Beast Tide threat. 243 244
Reconstruction
South Peak True One protected the ruins with a formation and vowed that White Cloud True One’s life’s work would not disappear. He expected the spiritual vein to recover within a century and called upon White Cloud True One’s scattered disciples to rebuild. 251 252
After Xing Huaian formed his Core, he, Yuan Pan’er, and Zhou Buqi returned to Xu Nation to discuss rebuilding the city with Zhou Xun. 403 404
The reconstructed city later received a Heavenly Star Hall and a public teleportation array linked to Heaven Han City, intended to connect White Cloud Immortal City with cultivators throughout the Eastern Wastelands. 740
