History
Founding and inherited path
Immortal Venerable Great Luo rose during the Epochal Calamity associated with Immortal King Xuanjun’s campaign against the God Clan. After attaining Great Luo True Immortality, he could not develop his grotto-heaven through the combined powers of Space-Time, Karma, and Reincarnation. He instead entered Celestial Immortality through Space-Time alone and established the sect’s enduring foundation 331.
The founder inherited the Most High Miro Precious Edict and created the grotto-heaven that became Miro Heaven. Later generations enriched it with the mysteries of the five elements and creation 230. Great Luo and subsequent Celestial Immortals found the complete Great Luo path too difficult to sustain, abandoning the simultaneous cultivation of its component paths in favor of a single-Dao breakthrough 314.
Li Xian’s recruitment and protection
The Rising Dragon Pavilion served as an affiliated recruitment institution: its pavilion master and tower masters belonged to Great Luo. Selected Dao Seedlings and Immortal Seedlings received passage to the sect aboard a Heavenly Ark 58. Li Xian arrived with one such intake and began as an outer disciple 63.
As Li Xian’s value became apparent, the sect increasingly intervened on his behalf. Xuanling blocked Lei Jun’s attempt to pressure him over two superior-grade Dao Artifacts, explaining that attacks against him by Immortal Realm experts would invite retaliation and potentially all-out war 229. After Luo Hou’s assassination attempt, Lu Linyuan personally forced the Boundless Immortal Dynasty to accept an abdication, confinement, formation concessions, and access to core-city airspace 261.
During the Immortal Domain crisis, the sect organized the retrieval of stranded disciples. Yue Jiuxiao also struck the Nine Heavens Sacred Ground’s territory after its Loose Immortals attempted to capture and kill Li Xian 283 289. Li Xian’s safe return with enormous spoils prompted celebrations throughout the sect 289.
Wars in the True Immortal Great World
After Tianyuan Daoist ascended, Great Luo reduced its external commitments, consolidated its territory, invested in cultivating Immortal Realm experts, and sought a possible retreat route. These preparations limited internal disorder when the Immortal Realm Gate was later forced open 330 331.
The sect then resisted an invasion involving five major Demon Race clans. Li Xian shattered Youxuan’s formation, allowing the sect’s Loose Immortals to destroy the remaining defenders, before carrying the fighting into demon territory 339. The victory damaged the invading clans and deterred other hostile groups from acting openly within Great Luo’s lands 342 343.
Conflict with the Radiant Sun Immortal Sect escalated into all-out war. Great Luo captured Golden Crow Fortress, occupied resource sites, and blockaded the enemy headquarters rather than paying the cost of breaching its formations 351. Under Li Xian’s leadership, it defeated an alliance of nineteen powers that included Radiant Sun, the Six Great Devil Sects, Demon Race factions, and Nine Heavens Sacred Ground forces 362.
Great Luo subsequently became the center of a self-preservation coalition opposing the Nine Heavens Sacred Ground’s unification campaign 393. When Liu Xianyi launched a long-range attack with the Nine Heavens Divine Mirror, Li Xian intercepted it while the sect brought its defensive formations to full power 394. The Sacred Ground’s eventual conquest ended its dominance and added further inheritances to Great Luo’s reserves 406 408.
Establishment in the Immortal Realm
Li Xian proposed reestablishing the sect within the Great Yao Immortal Dynasty 461. The resulting institution operated in Water Dragon Ward of Nine Emperors City, where its functions resembled those of a teaching school more than a lower-realm territorial sect 481.
Its initial strength did not make it capable of governing an immortal dynasty. Li Xian explicitly rejected such an arrangement, judging that a sect with only three Celestial Immortals lacked the personnel needed to administer one 476. Instead, support from Princess Hansu’s residence, an exceptional cave abode, and Li Xian’s connections allowed it to grow steadily 481 522.
Li Xian later returned to his home world and expounded the Dao for three years. His discourse advanced the world itself, enabled thirty-six Earth Immortals to become Pure Yang True Immortals, and shortened the Immortal Realm Gate’s opening interval to 10,800 years 532. When another group departed for the Immortal Realm, Yi Yuanshi became sect master of the home-world institution, remaining behind with Mo Xingzhou 538.
In the later Immortal Realm period, Lu Linyuan resumed the sect master’s position. The sect eventually expanded far beyond the Great Yao Immortal Dynasty, while its headquarters remained in Nine Emperors City 658 701.
Organization and Governance
Central administration
- Sect master: Holds the sect’s highest executive authority. Lu Linyuan’s position gave him the power to determine the fate of subordinate kingdoms and sects 261.
- Miro Hall: Central command from which the sect’s orders were issued, located on the floating island occupied by its Grand Elders 230.
- Nine great halls: Managed the sect’s operations. Every hall master had survived tribulation and attained the Immortal Realm 227.
- Supreme Elders Council: Included outstanding Human Immortals who had rendered substantial service; it formed part of the sect’s decision-making leadership 229.
- Grand Elders: Included Human Immortals and Earth Immortals serving the sect. Some Loose Immortals instead established and oversaw external branches 229.
- Internal factions: True Inheritors and elders commonly represented one or more subordinate forces. Promotions attracted gifts, service offers, and proposals for cooperation 231.
Disciple ranks and privileges
| Rank / Category | Documented treatment or responsibility |
|---|---|
| Outer disciple | Receives a disciple token and assigned lodging; the sect initially provides a platform rather than extensive personal support 63 64. |
| Inner disciple | New recruits already at Xiantian could enter directly. Inner disciples also participated in large organized trials 63 116. |
| Core disciple | Receives a fief 227. |
| True Inheritor disciple | May establish a vassal state and commonly becomes the representative of affiliated forces 227 231. |
| Dao Seed | May hold authority at important sect locations as preparation for deputy sect master or sect master responsibilities 227. |
| Resident External Elder | Has access to Merit Point exchanges, but ranks below Attendants and Retainers and ordinarily pays for lodging when visiting 181. |
Yi Yuanshi’s honorary leadership of Xingtian Hall carried the hall master’s authority and duties without requiring him to remain stationed there 227.
Recruitment, rewards, and discipline
- Recruitment network: Candidates came through institutions such as the Rising Dragon Pavilion and directly from sect-governed cities and territories 58 64.
- Merit Points: Used to obtain provisions, cultivation resources, spells, Dharma Treasures, and pills. Missions and trials offered opportunities to earn them 63 116 181.
- Disciple discount: Li Xian was urged to spend his points before promotion ended his half-price disciple benefits 289 295.
- Combat-based evaluation: Cultivation methods and constitutions retained provisional ratings until tested in practice. Impressive descriptions alone did not establish their worth 138.
- Permitted competition: Disciples were free to spar so long as it did not become malicious murder 63.
- Limits on private revenge: Even an Immortal Realm Grand Elder lacked the right to kill indiscriminately, although exceptional status could lead the sect to overlook certain old grudges given a plausible explanation 181.
- Selective investigation: The sect largely ignored disputes among dependent forces. Deaths of core disciples or True Inheritors drew greater scrutiny than incidents involving many lower-status affiliates or elders 226.
- Immortal Realm intake: The reestablished sect recruited a batch every hundred years. True Inheritors were expected to bind themselves to the sect’s honor and disgrace 481.
Territory and Facilities

| Falling Star Sea | A million-li sea containing thousands upon thousands of forces. Great Luo held territory there that the Limitless Star Palace had relinquished as indefensible 226 351. |
| Nine Emperors City headquarters | Located in Water Dragon Ward, Azure Dragon District, in the outer city. Its early cave abode spanned 29,000 li 481. |
| Expanded Immortal Realm grounds | Reached 100,000 li after support from the Great Yao Immortal Dynasty, including three 29,000-li cave abodes 522. |
| Later external territories | Extended beyond the Great Yao Immortal Dynasty; important members were dispersed to oversee separate regions 701. |
Peaks and institutional sites
- Twelve outer-disciple peaks: Housed well over one million outer disciples. Named peaks included Gonggong, Tianwu, Dijiang, Qiangliang, Jumang, Zhurong, Ruxou, and Xuanming 64.

- Golden Crow Fortress: Captured from Radiant Sun and used as a base for territorial expansion. Its formations drew power from underground fire veins within a radius of 100,000 li 351.
- True Immortal-class warships: Included the Great Luo and Flowing Cloud. Three such vessels accompanied the sect’s eight-hundred–Loose Immortal deployment 384 387.
- Golden Core combat squads: Used standardized spells, sect-issued Dharma Treasures, and drilled joint formations. One was stationed at White Stone Harbor near Ascending to Immortality City 232.
- External branch support: Elder Bishui, possessing six-mark strength, oversaw the Ascending to Immortality City branch and could be called upon by a Dao Seed 232.
- Grand Array: Linked numerous formations to Miro Heaven. Its operators could attempt to channel the array’s energy into a defending expert to amplify combat strength 394.
- Monitoring network: Detected incoming Immortal Power fluctuations, allowing recognized visitors to identify themselves before approaching the headquarters 399.
