Background / History

Family persecution

Daidai was the eldest young master of the Douyacai Family, a major family in Red Jade City. His mother was a commoner whom his father married as a concubine. After the First Madam gave birth to a son, she began suppressing Daidai and his mother. His mother later fell gravely ill and died, leaving the family steward, Ente, as his principal protector. His father continued to favor him as both his eldest son and a mage 6 15.

The First Madam’s son was actually her lover’s child. Her lover, a ninth-level expert, killed Daidai’s father, and the pair sought Daidai’s death to secure the family fortune. After discovering the truth, Ente fled with him, but assassins caught them near the Magical Beast Mountain Range 6.

Ente’s death and Lister’s rescue

When two eighth-level warriors cornered them, Daidai initially refused to abandon Ente. He fled using Extreme Speed only after the steward insisted that the Douyacai bloodline must survive. Ente held off both attackers long enough for him to escape, but was killed 5.

The assassins caught up and told Daidai how Ente had died. Daidai retaliated by impaling one attacker’s thigh with Earth Spike Lance Thrust, then decapitating him with Wind Blade. The combination exhausted his magic, leaving him defenseless against the survivor 6.

Lister intervened just before the killing blow, severing the assassin’s hand and frightening him away. Daidai initially believed the Spined Iron-Armored Dragon intended to eat him, but reconsidered when Lister settled nearby instead of attacking 6.

Becoming Lister’s younger brother

Daidai thanked Lister in the dragon tongue and identified their location as Yagor Province. His geographical knowledge made him useful to Lister, who had become lost while trying to reach the Fenlai Kingdom. Daidai agreed to serve as his follower and guide in exchange for help obtaining revenge 7.

Lister instead encouraged him to address him as “Big Brother Lister” and treated him as a younger brother. Before departing, Daidai buried Ente beneath a towering tree roughly three kilometers from the battle site, carving “Grandpa Ente’s grave” into the tree 8.

During their journey, Lister helped Daidai contract the Velociraptor Honghuo, providing a mount that greatly improved their traveling speed. After five years on the road, they reached the Holy Union and found Mist Canyon, where Daidai cultivated while Lister pursued his own breakthrough 9 10 11.

Return for revenge

After reaching the Saint level, Lister renewed his promise to help Daidai, motivating him to train harder and seek revenge with his own hands. They eventually left Mist Canyon together on Honghuo 12 13.

On the return journey, Daidai helped transport the injured Wang Lufei and his companions to Black Jade City. The group accepted hospitality at the city lord’s residence before the planned journey to Red Jade City, where the Douyacai Family was based 15 16.

Lister subsequently explained Daidai’s grievances to the Monchi Family’s leaders. Kong assigned Garp and Wang Long to handle the matter, noting that Long’s impending appointment as lord of Red Jade City made it an opportunity to establish his authority. Daidai’s revenge had not yet been carried out in the provided chapters 17.

Appearance

  • Introduced as a young man wearing luxurious clothing and carrying a wand 5.
  • Later wears a black mage’s robe while traveling with Lister 8.
  • Described as appearing around the same age as Wang Lufei and his companions; his age is subsequently given as twenty-two 15.

Personality

Daidai is deeply attached to those who protect him. He initially chooses to stand and die with Ente rather than escape alone, and later personally buries him and promises to avenge him. Becoming Lister’s younger brother gives him a renewed sense of family after losing his parents and steward 5 8.

His early deference toward Lister combines gratitude with caution: he recognizes that the dragon could kill him effortlessly. That formality develops into affection and open admiration as Lister repeatedly protects him and helps him grow stronger 7 8 11.

Revenge is his immediate motivation, but he readily embraces Lister’s broader ambition of reaching the pinnacle of the Yulan Continent. When revenge begins to seem achievable, he responds by intensifying his cultivation rather than simply waiting for Lister to act 8 12.

Abilities & Skills

Wind Magic

Daidai can use wind magic for movement and offense 5 6.

  • Extreme Speed: A fifth-level wind spell used to escape while Ente delayed the assassins 5.
  • Wind Blade: Releases cutting blades of wind. He fires five blades to kill an immobilized eighth-level warrior 6.
  • Limitation: His pursuit battle leaves his magical reserves completely depleted, preventing further resistance or escape 6.

Earth Magic

Daidai combines earth magic with wind attacks to exploit openings 6.

  • Earth Spike Lance Thrust: Raises six sharp earthen lances from the ground 6.
  • Combat application: Pins an assassin through the thigh before following with Wind Blade; the other assassin evades the initial attack 6.

Soul Contract and Communication

Daidai establishes a master-servant contract with Honghuo through a prepared soul contract scroll 9.

  • Activates the scroll by channeling spiritual power into its magic array 9.
  • Communicates directly with Honghuo through their soul bond, including instructing him to prepare for departure 9 13.
  • Requires Lister to suppress Honghuo during the contracting process; Daidai cannot subdue a seventh-level magical beast with his own strength at that point 9.

Languages and Navigation

  • Dragon tongue: Knows enough of the Dragon Race’s language to thank and converse with Lister before Lister reaches the Saint level 7.
  • Geographical knowledge: Identifies Yagor Province and estimates the journey to Fenlai at approximately five years, securing his role as Lister’s guide 7.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Wand — Carried during the assassins’ attack 5.
  • Spatial ring — Stores his soul contract scroll and spare noble attire; he supplies Lister with clothing after Lister gains human form 9 12.
  • Soul contract scroll — Used to establish his bond with Honghuo without personally casting the contract spell 9.

Relationships

  • Lister — Rescuer, sworn elder brother, and principal supporter. Helps Daidai cultivate, obtains his mount, and promises to assist with his revenge 7 8 9 12.
  • Ente — Family steward and protective grandfather figure, whom Daidai calls “Grandpa Ente.” Dies defending his escape 5 6 8.
  • Mother — A commoner who became his father’s concubine. Dies of illness after enduring the First Madam’s persecution 6.
  • Father — Favors Daidai as his eldest son and a mage; murdered by the First Madam’s lover 6.
  • First Madam and her lover — Enemies responsible for the plot to seize the family fortune and have Daidai killed 6.
  • Honghuo / Redfire — Contracted fire-attribute Velociraptor and traveling mount. Advances from seventh to eighth level during the Mist Canyon stay 9 13.
  • Wang Lufei — Fellow native of Yagor Province who invites Daidai and Lister to rest in Black Jade City before accompanying them to Red Jade City 15.
  • Monchi Family — Prospective allies in settling his family grievances; Kong delegates the matter to Garp and Wang Long 17.

Trivia

  • Wang Lufei’s hunting party initially assumes that Lister belongs to Daidai and speculates that the black-robed mage must be a ninth-level Great Mage. In reality, Daidai is Lister’s follower 7 8.
  • Lister finds Daidai’s surname amusing because it sounds like “bean sprouts,” a food he likes 7.
