Vanessa looked in surprise at the card in her hand. "What's this?"
"A borrowing card for the Saint Clair Grand Library. With this, you can read books at the largest library in the Imperial Capital."
Vanessa's eyes immediately widened.
"S-something this valuable? Where did you get it?"
Books had always been precious things. Although the Industrial Revolution had made books affordable for many commoners, truly useful knowledge was never printed on cheap paper.
Miskatonic University's library was free to students, one of their most important benefits. For anyone else who wanted to use the library, the deposit for a borrowing card alone cost dozens of pounds.
And the Saint Clair Grand Library was far beyond anything a university library could compare to.
This borrowing card could not even be bought with money alone. Without a sufficiently influential letter of recommendation, no amount of Leo could get one.
"Have you forgotten? I'm a noble!" Flora puffed out her chest.
"Oh! Wonderful! This is so important!" Vanessa's face was full of excitement.
What she did not know was that noble status alone was not enough to obtain this borrowing card.
But Flora had not bought the card. She had gone to Elliot and asked for it.
She had come to the Imperial Capital at Elliot's invitation.
Elliot had invited her to investigate the family massacre, so naturally, he would not be stingy. Getting a borrowing card or something of the sort was no trouble at all.
Vanessa was Flora's friend, and so was Elliot. To Flora, nothing could be more natural than helping a friend.
