Vanessa stood dazed in the alley, a little more bewilderment in her eyes.
The faint morning light spilled down. Looking up, she could see tiny specks of dust. A rat scurried along the wall, and she could hear children making a racket in the distance.
Vanessa backed up a few steps and looked out at the street from the mouth of the alley. Scattered pedestrians walked along it, and the occasional carriage passed by. Everything was so normal, without the slightest sign of anything unusual.
"A hallucination?" Vanessa could hardly believe it.
Supernatural people often experienced hallucinations, especially those who possessed [Spirit Vision].
Eleanor had once told her that because the Investigation Investigator Path possessed [Spirit Vision], its practitioners were prone to seeing things they should not, making it easy for them to hallucinate and descend into madness.
But Vanessa had never experienced hallucinations. More precisely, neither she nor the Difference Engine's believers had.
"Right, Spirit Vision!" Vanessa suddenly realized and hurriedly turned off her Spirit Vision. Yet she did not return to that moonlit street. Everything before her remained normal.
Could it really have been a hallucination?
For a moment, Vanessa could not be certain either. She hesitated briefly, then decided to continue to the Library.
Could there be something wrong with this place?
As she walked to the Library, Vanessa vaguely felt that something was off, a sense of agitation that was difficult to put into words.
It was like wearing a scratchy wool sweater, the sensation coming and going, never letting her feel comfortable.
She spent a long time carefully examining the feeling, but could not work out where it came from.
Only when she reached the Library's entrance did she suddenly realize.
"Spirituality! This is my Spirituality sensing something!"
