The second ten-pull

Konohagakure's Medical Department.

"Scratch, scratch, scratch..."

Sitting in his office, Shihōin Naraku held a pen and wrote something on a sheet of paper.

"Done!"

Shihōin Naraku wrote the final word, put away his pen, and picked up the paper.

He coughed a little apprehensively. "Letter of appointment! Shihōin Naraku is hereby appointed Disassembly Group Director of the Konohagakure Medical Emergency Response Unit, with Sarutobi Jiuyu as deputy director and the following members..."

Shihōin Naraku finished reading the appointment letter he had just written himself. Yes, he was appointing himself. He intended to exploit a system bug and see whether it worked.

After all, accumulating Draw Chances normally was too slow. Naruto Uzumaki was about to graduate, which meant the Konoha Crush Plan was drawing ever closer. He had to improve his strength in the shortest time possible.

According to the system's rules, a demotion granted one draw, a transfer to a position of the same rank granted two, and a promotion granted at least three and at most five.

After studying the system's rules for a long time, Shihōin Naraku had found a bug. Whether intentionally or not, the system did not seem to have stipulated that he could not appoint himself.

Shihōin Naraku now belonged to Konohagakure's upper ranks. Naturally, he had the authority to appoint others, and as long as he did not go too far, the Hokage would not interfere.

So, after only a little hesitation, he decided to test it and see what the system said.

And so Shihōin Naraku really did appoint himself to a position, even setting up a group specifically responsible for dividing up the Medical Emergency Response Unit.

After reading the appointment letter, Shihōin Naraku waited for the system's response.

Silence, and more silence!

Just as Shihōin Naraku lost all hope and thought his attempt to exploit the bug had failed, the system's notification finally sounded.

[Ding! The host has assumed the position of Disassembly Group Director of the Konohagakure Medical Emergency Response Unit!]

[Congratulations, host. You have received two Draw Chances!]

It worked!!!

But before Shihōin could celebrate, the system's voice sounded again.

[Ding! System loophole detected. Patching in progress...]

"Huh? I've only exploited the bug once, and now it's going away?"

[Ding! New system rule added: Appointment System...]

Shihōin Naraku stared in surprise as the system actually added a rule: the appointment system!

He hurriedly asked the system to show him the new rule, and a large amount of text appeared in his vision.

It took Shihōin Naraku quite a while to finish reading it all.

"So that's how it works..."

"I can still appoint myself in the future, but the system has added a restriction. I can only do this five times a year. Beyond that, I won't receive any more draws."

Shihōin Naraku also discovered that the system explicitly stipulated that, for an appointment to a new position to succeed, the organization in question had to actually exist.

Just as he had appointed himself Disassembly Group Director this time, that group had to actually exist, it had to have other members, and those people had to actually be busy working on dividing up the Medical Emergency Response Unit.

Everything had to be real for him to receive Draw Chances.

"Got it. The system has blocked off one way I could mess around. Giving myself random, ridiculous appointments to swindle Draw Chances out of the system won't work anymore."

Shihōin could understand why this rule had appeared. Without restrictions, he would milk the system dry in the shortest time possible.

"Five appointments a year, with at least one Lottery opportunity each and two at most."

"That works too. With good luck, that's a ten-pull."

Shihōin Naraku nearly burst out laughing.

"Let me think. The two draws left over from the last ten-pull, plus the five from becoming head of the Medical Department, and these two—that means I already have nine Draw Chances."

"Then I need to get enough for a ten-pull as soon as possible. What other positions are there? I need to think this through."

Shihōin Naraku first called someone in and gave instructions for the other appointments to the Disassembly Group. After all, the system had said they had to actually do the work.

"What other positions could there be? They have to be real, with actual work to do..."

After racking his brains for ages, Shihōin Naraku really was at a loss for the moment.

But since he could not think of any positions in the Medical Department, Shihōin Naraku turned around and returned to the ANBU.

Under the ANBU members' curious gazes, Shihōin Naraku wandered around the Anbu base before returning to his office.

"Anbu Commander, division captain, squad leader..."

Tapping his fingers against the desk, Shihōin Naraku leaned back in his chair and considered what position he should give himself.

He casually pulled over a sheet of paper and drew on it for a while. Suddenly, inspiration struck, and something occurred to him.

Shihōin Naraku took his pen and wrote a word on the paper: logistics!

He was the Deputy Captain of Konohagakure's ANBU, and ANBU logistics were already his responsibility.

But logistics were not the Deputy Captain's only responsibility. There were plenty of other miscellaneous matters as well.

So Shihōin Naraku wondered whether he could separate out logistics duties and create a position to which he could appoint someone.

"Let's see. I'll just establish a Logistics Squad responsible for logistics for the entire ANBU. Clothing, ninja tools, weapons, and so on. Right, and medicine..."

"After all, the entire ANBU only has a little over seventy people, so the squad doesn't need to be too big. I'll be the Logistics Squad Leader, and three people in total should be enough."

Writing down whatever came to mind, Shihōin Naraku finished the list of appointments in no time.

He coughed and said, "Shihōin Naraku is hereby appointed ANBU Logistics Squad Leader. Yamanaka Tsuki is hereby appointed..."

His words faded, but Shihōin Naraku still heard no response from the system.

"I almost forgot. I'm not the boss of the ANBU. There's the Hokage above us, and then the Commander. That means I need approval from that old man the Third and Kakashi!"

Having figured it out, Shihōin Naraku set off immediately.

At that moment, Kakashi Hatake was still following Naruto Uzumaki. But unlike before, when he spent all day wandering around making trouble, Naruto Uzumaki now trained hard every day. Perhaps the pressure of graduation had made him a little nervous.

Looking up at Naruto Uzumaki from time to time, Kakashi Hatake still held Icha Icha Paradise in his hands. He was not really the one watching over Naruto anyway. Tenzo and the ANBU squad were the actual guards.

Looking at Shihōin Naraku's solemn expression, Kakashi had no intention of objecting and simply nodded his approval.

Then, a moment later, he saw the pen Shihōin Naraku held out to him. Resigned, he signed his name. Kakashi was just about to speak when he found that the paper and pen had both been snatched away, and a moment later, the man was gone too.

Glancing at Naruto Uzumaki, who was still training in the distance, then at the empty space beside him, Kakashi Hatake grew even more bewildered.

As expected, Hiruzen Sarutobi also approved the appointment. After all, it was meant to improve the ANBU's overall strength, so there was no problem with it.

To avoid attracting attention, Shihōin Naraku listened to Hiruzen Sarutobi ramble for a little longer before taking his leave.

Even though he had already saved up enough for a ten-pull, Shihōin Naraku simply skipped work and returned home.

A stylish longsword, banknotes, and Explosive Tags appeared before Shihōin Naraku.
