The middle-aged warrior happily assured him that he would not make things difficult for him, then told him to follow. "Master Mage, my name is Grete. I'm a second lieutenant in the Third Legion under Abbendis, the commander of Kaltz." Allen introduced himself as well. "My name is Allen. I'm a mere second-tier mage, and I'm also from Lordaeron."

"Really? That's wonderful." When the middle-aged warrior heard that Allen was a fellow countryman, the corners of his mouth lifted, and he began to relax. "Grete, can you tell me what you need me to do?" Allen asked.

Grete's expression immediately turned serious at the question. "Do you know about our border conflict with Alterac last year?" Allen nodded to show that he did.

"Naturally, we won that conflict. Those fools from Alterac were no match for us, but they were utterly despicable. They actually used poison. Many of our soldiers have now begun showing symptoms of poisoning, and our antidotes don't work. We originally planned to seek help from the legion's mage adviser and priests, but this poison struck too fiercely. We can't keep waiting, so when I heard a mage had arrived, I took it upon myself to ask for your help."

After hearing the whole story, Allen finally asked in puzzlement, "So your superiors don't know what you're doing?" Grete lowered his head in shame. "I'm sorry. My good friend was poisoned too, and he's almost gone. I really have no other choice. Please, you have to help me. As long as you save him, I'll do anything you ask."

Allen shook his head. "We'll have to see. I'm not sure I can save your friend, and I don't want to make empty promises." Grete then sighed, lowered his head, and muttered something Allen could not make out.
