Ch. 141Copy and paste

Uchiha Yan began teaching Neji and Hinata, giving Neji access to the Daozang and explaining his father’s sacrifice. Meanwhile, the other villages worried about Konoha’s growing strength, as Ōnoki turned his attention toward it and Genji urged Yagura to rebuild Kirigakure.

  • Uchiha Yan gave Neji a scroll containing the Daozang and said he would teach him to think and analyze situations.
  • Uchiha Yan explained how Neji’s father had tried to change the Hyuga Clan’s Cursed Seal system, then told Neji to clear his mind instead of dwelling on blame.
  • Uchiha Yan praised Hinata’s understanding of caution and began teaching Neji and Hinata mathematics.
  • Raizan and Zifeng discussed their fears that Uchiha Yan, Uchiha Itachi, and other Konoha shinobi could make Konoha too powerful to oppose.
  • Ōnoki ordered Kitsuchi to prioritize intelligence on Konoha because he feared Fugaku and Itachi might awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • Genji persuaded the self-blaming Yagura to remain Mizukage and focus Kirigakure on recovering its Ninja Blades, training new swordsmen, and studying Uchiha Yan’s reforms.

Ch. 142Making eyes

Uchiha Yan defended his teaching plans before the Third Hokage and the village elders, then began his first class at the Ninja Academy. He quieted the students and asked them to write their names on cardstock, while Sasuke finished first.

  • The Third Hokage and the elders questioned whether Uchiha Yan should teach at the Ninja Academy, and Yan explained that he would focus on teaching students how to learn rather than forcing lessons on them.
  • Yan, the Third Hokage, and Danzo traded barbs about Konoha’s stability, the Uchiha, and who should lead the Academy.
  • Uchiha Yan entered a classroom of more than forty children while the Third Hokage, Danzo, Utatane Koharu, and Mitokado Homura watched from outside.
  • Yan threatened to hang noisy students at the village entrance, and the class quickly fell silent.
  • Yan handed out cardstock and asked each student to write their name and fold the paper into a triangle; Sasuke Uchiha finished first.

Ch. 143Offending people

Uchiha Yan began teaching his class through genjutsu and handwriting exercises, while Sasuke provoked his classmates into a fight with Naruto. After two suspected Iwagakure spies were arrested for seeking information about Yan and his students, the Third Hokage ordered an inquiry into the Land of Fire's Daimyō and Danzo took the prisoners for Root.

  • Uchiha Yan used genjutsu to have the children choose what they wanted most, then assigned them to copy their partners' chosen words for a chance to receive those things.
  • Sasuke insulted his classmates, and Naruto attacked him before more than ten children joined the confrontation.
  • Uchiha Yan threw Sasuke and Naruto out the window to fight, then told the other students to begin copying.
  • Fugaku told the Third Hokage that the Military Police Force had arrested two genin working for Oda Makoto, and Inabi's Sharingan check suggested they had come from the Land of Earth.
  • The Third Hokage sent Homura to ask the Daimyō about his trust in Konoha, while Fugaku handed the prisoners over to Danzo's Root.

Ch. 144Threatening the Daimyō

Uchiha Yan explained why the Daimyō feared Konoha’s growing strength and proposed measures to prepare for possible alliances among rival nations. Mitokado Homura then confronted Tokugawa Shin over restrictions on Uchiha Yan’s teaching, and the Daimyō threatened to cut Konoha’s funding in half.

  • The Third Hokage ordered Danzo to investigate spies in Konoha and rejected Danzo’s proposal to slaughter the Oda Family.
  • Uchiha Yan argued that the Daimyō could be replaced, while the Third Hokage explained that Konoha depended on the Daimyō for funding and political legitimacy.
  • Uchiha Yan said Konoha’s growing number of elite fighters had alarmed other nations and warned that several countries might form an alliance.
  • Uchiha Yan proposed creating turmoil among the Five Great Villages and improving Konoha’s ties with rival nations, but the Third Hokage instead ordered Danzo to target Uchiha Haruna, Uchiha Jin, and Uchiha Jinyan without killing them.
  • Mitokado Homura asked Tokugawa Shin to let Konoha investigate spies in the Oda residence, but Tokugawa Shin refused and demanded that Uchiha Yan stop teaching anything except ninjutsu.
  • Tokugawa Shin announced that Konoha’s funding would be halved, and Mitokado Homura warned that Uchiha Yan could not easily be controlled.

Ch. 145Someone was pulling the strings

Mitokado Homura confronted Tokugawa Shin over the Daimyō’s threat to cut Konoha’s funding unless Uchiha Yan stopped teaching political knowledge. After Homura reported back, the Third Hokage ordered Yan to stop teaching politics at the Ninja Academy while planning to recruit students from his evening classes to train a future Hokage.

  • Mitokado Homura demanded an explanation from Tokugawa Shin, who said officials and city lords feared Uchiha Yan’s lessons would undermine their positions and the Daimyō’s authority.
  • Tokugawa Shin offered to restore Konoha’s funding if Yan stopped teaching and his books were burned, but Homura refused and secured a promise that Yan would stop teaching politics at the Ninja Academy.
  • Mitokado Homura returned to Konoha and told the Third Hokage that the Daimyō’s officials were trying to prevent ninja from gaining political knowledge.
  • The Third Hokage said he would tell Uchiha Yan to stop teaching politics in class and send selected students to the Uchiha Clan’s kindergarten in the evenings, while ruling out Yan and Danzo as Hokage candidates.
  • The Third Hokage asked Homura to question Yan about why he had not sought power, then sent him to investigate an angry roar outside the window accusing Danzo of bringing his men.

Ch. 146No fight left in him

Uchiha Haruna grew desperate as Root repeatedly disrupted his attempts to show off, so Uchiha Yan suggested he take a mission to the Capital. Haruna set out with Uchiha Jin and Uchiha Jinyan, while Danzo ordered Root to follow and provoke them there.

  • Root kept interrupting Uchiha Haruna and Uchiha Jin with gongs, hoping to provoke the Uchiha into using ninjutsu and give Danzo grounds to arrest Haruna.
  • Raizan explained to Dōjima that Danzo was trying to force Haruna to use ninjutsu, while other villages watched the Uchiha-Root conflict with hopes it would weaken Konoha.
  • Haruna asked Uchiha Yan for help, and Yan advised him to take a mission to the Capital, where Root might leave him alone.
  • Haruna enthusiastically wrote down more boastful lines, then went to the Mission Hall and recruited Uchiha Jin and Uchiha Jinyan for the trip.
  • Danzo ordered A and Taka to take their squads to the Capital and provoke the three Uchiha until they used ninjutsu indiscriminately.

Ch. 147Wrongly accusing you

Xiaren escorted a merchant to the Capital while Uchiha Yan found a way to occupy restless clan members with games inside a Genjutsu. At school, Yan confronted his students over bullying but abruptly punished Sasuke, Shikamaru, and Naruto instead.

  • Xiaren boasted to the merchant about his strength, leaving the man despairing over the journey ahead.
  • Restless Uchiha crowded Fugaku's home asking to leave the village, but Mikoto threatened them and sent them away.
  • The Uchiha asked Yan for help, and he used a Genjutsu full of games to keep them entertained before ordering them to organize the games themselves.
  • Yan reflected on his training and went to class, where Sakura's pale face and her classmates' smug expressions caught his attention.
  • Yan asked Sasuke, Shikamaru, and Naruto whether they had bullied classmates, then ordered all three to copy the Analects ten times.

Ch. 148Solving problems

Uchiha Yan taught his students to simplify problems after challenging them to identify the bullies and victim in their class. After class, Iruka told Yan why he resented Naruto, and Yan gave him a way to think through what he wanted.

  • Uchiha Yan made Sasuke, Naruto, and Shikamaru find the classmates involved in bullying, then taught the class how to break difficult problems into simpler steps.
  • Shikamaru identified three bullies and Sakura Haruno as the victim, while Naruto and Sasuke realized they could have worked together to find the answer.
  • Uchiha Yan assigned the children to form teams, take D-rank search missions, and use his problem-solving method.
  • Iruka told Uchiha Yan that he hated Naruto because the Nine-Tails' rampage had killed his parents, and Yan advised him to consider what he truly wanted.
  • Iruka asked why Yan had not intervened to help Sakura, and Yan said he had taught her how to solve the problem and believed Naruto and Sasuke could help her.

Ch. 149He Couldn't Be Allowed to Stay

After Uchiha Yan’s young students completed missions with startling speed, the Third Hokage and Danzo argued over Sakura Haruno while Yan proposed using negotiations to buy Konoha time. Ōnoki learned how capable the children were and decided Uchiha Yan had to be eliminated, though he struggled to find a way to reach him.

  • Sasuke Uchiha and his classmates took missions, and the villagers were astonished when every squad completed its work by evening, with Sakura Haruno, Ino, and Hinata Hyuga finishing fastest.
  • The Third Hokage ordered the mission results kept quiet, while Danzo demanded Sakura for Root after hearing she had deduced an item's location in five minutes.
  • Uchiha Yan defended his students’ progress and proposed drawing other villages into prolonged negotiations by offering teaching materials in exchange for concessions.
  • The Third Hokage agreed to Yan’s plan but warned him not to teach anything that could antagonize the Daimyō.
  • Ōnoki learned that Hinata Hyuga had completed a mission in ten minutes without activating her Byakugan and ordered Kitsuchi to find a way to get Uchiha Yan out of the village so he could kill him.
  • Kitsuchi explained that Yan stayed within the Hyuga, school, and Uchiha compounds and was difficult to poison, leaving Ōnoki to consider threatening Yan’s family or using a woman against him.

Ch. 150Playing house

Ōnoki planned to enlist other villages and Danzo in a scheme to kill Uchiha Yan, but Konoha’s invitation for foreign children to study under Yan complicated his plans. In the Capital, Uchiha Haruna and his companions persuaded Asuma to let them fight in a public sparring match, and they ended by insisting he return to Konoha for special training.

  • Ōnoki ordered Kitsuchi to contact Danzo and recruit Sunagakure, Kirigakure, and Kumogakure into a plot to kill Uchiha Yan.
  • An Iwagakure messenger reported that Konoha had invited foreign children to study under Yan and that Yan intended to take Gaara as his disciple.
  • Ōnoki rejected the idea of sending Kurotsuchi to Konoha and decided to meet the other villages in the Land of Grass.
  • Haruna, Jinyan, and Jhin asked Asuma to find them enemies in the Capital so they could stage a public display of their strength.
  • Asuma offered the three Uchiha a chance to fight Kazuma’s group in a sparring match before the Daimyō, ministers, and citizens.
  • Haruna and Jhin told Asuma to return to Konoha with them afterward and undergo special training until he could use instant-cast ninjutsu.

Ch. 151Sword Rain

Uchiha Haruna dominated the Twelve Guardian Ninja’s sparring match in Palace City, defeating Kazuma and overwhelming Asuma’s group before unveiling his original S-rank technique, Sword Rain. The flaming swords rained down across the arena as Haruna basked in the crowd’s stunned attention.

  • Haruna answered Kazuma’s insults by using Fire Release and his Sharingan to defeat Kazuma and five other Guardian Ninja instantly.
  • Haruna demanded that Asuma and the remaining Guardian Ninja fight, and Uchiha Jin and Uchiha Jinyan kicked them into the arena.
  • Asuma fought Haruna with his Chakra Blades and Fire Release, but Haruna interrupted his ninjutsu with an instant-cast fireball.
  • Asuma called for the others to attack together, and Haruna revealed his original technique, Xiaren's Secret Technique: Sword Rain.
  • Haruna transformed a giant flaming sword into countless smaller swords that battered the arena while a squad of ninja protected the spectators with Earth-Style Wall.
  • Haruna stood atop the arena as the crowd stared at him, then clasped his hands behind his back and looked sorrowfully at the sky.

Ch. 152The Clown

Xiaren awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan after the Capital’s ministers mocked the Uchiha, then used its Genjutsu to send them, including the Daimyō, dancing through the streets. The Third Hokage summoned Fugaku and Uchiha Yan to deal with the fallout, and Yan proposed staging Xiaren’s death to appease the Daimyō.

  • Root Ninja interrupted Xiaren’s performance in the Capital with a gong, and the crowd laughed at the Uchiha and their antics.
  • Xiaren awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan and attacked the stands with flames, but Asuma stopped him from killing the Daimyō and the ministers.
  • Xiaren cast a one-hour Genjutsu that made the crowd dance in the streets, then left for Konoha with Jinyan and Jhin.
  • Chiriku warned Asuma that the Daimyō might cut Konoha’s funding, and Asuma hurried back to inform the Hokage.
  • The Third Hokage learned what had happened, argued with Danzo over Root’s role, and summoned Fugaku and Uchiha Yan.
  • After reading the intelligence, Yan suggested that Danzo arrange a spy and that the Uchiha provide a Three-Tomoe Sharingan to fake Xiaren’s death before the Daimyō and ministers.

Ch. 153Taichi disappeared

Konoha and the other great nations learned that the Daimyō were summoning their leaders as an alliance against Konoha took shape. Black Zetsu then warned Obito about the alliance, but Obito was more alarmed that Hyuga Taichi had disappeared.

  • The Third Hokage ordered Homura to take Uchiha Haruna and Shisui to the Daimyō, while Fugaku was told to confine Uchiha Ao to the Shrine.
  • Ōnoki, the Raikage, Rasa, and Yagura discussed targeting Uchiha Yan, but messengers arrived summoning each Kage to their Daimyō.
  • Rasa left without warning Uchiha Yan about the alliance, fearing that revealing the secret would doom Sunagakure.
  • White Zetsu reported the four-nation alliance to Black Zetsu, who sent White Zetsu to verify it and went to find Obito.
  • Obito dismissed the alliance as irrelevant and told Black Zetsu that Hyuga Taichi had disappeared.
  • Black Zetsu dismissed the disappearance at first, but Obito insisted Taichi could be hiding or replacing his chakra and might awaken a Tenseigan.

Ch. 154Mind's Eye of the Kagura

Uchiha Yan investigated a troubling divination that suggested an impending war, while Sasuke sought permission to graduate from the Ninja Academy. Yan left for the Hokage Building to investigate, where Danzo revealed that missing Jinchūriki had recently reappeared.

  • Black Zetsu failed to sense Uchiha Yan and continued monitoring the Five Great Nations while searching for Hyuga Taichi.
  • Sasuke asked Uchiha Yan to help him graduate, and Yan told him there were three classmates he could not defeat, including Hinata and Neji.
  • Sasuke told Yan that Gaara was returning to Sunagakure because Granny Chiyo was reportedly dying, but Yan's ninja cats confirmed that Chiyo was alive and well.
  • Uchiha Yan cast a hexagram that warned of danger and hurried to the Hokage Building to ask whether Konoha was preparing for war.
  • Uchiha Yan urged the Third Hokage to investigate iron ore activity in the Land of Iron and the Land of Crafts, while Danzo reported that Jinchūriki who had been missing for over two years had recently reappeared.

Ch. 155A real war

Uchiha Yan learned that a coalition of nations and shinobi villages was preparing to destroy Konoha, so he abandoned his original plan and set out to cripple the enemy forces. He left the Third Hokage and Fugaku to prepare for a war involving nearly the entire Shinobi World.

  • The Third Hokage received Jiraiya's report that Kumogakure had entered the Land of Tea, then ordered Uchiha Yan and Inabi to head toward the invasion.
  • A Root ninja reported that Kirigakure, the Land of Crafts, and the Land of Iron were attacking Whirlpool Island while Takigakure and Kusagakure joined the assault on the Land of Fire.
  • The Third Hokage assigned Danzo to deal with Kirigakure and sent Shisui, Itachi, and the Ino-Shika-Cho clan heads to support him.
  • Uchiha Yan met White Zetsu on the road and learned that nearly every nation and village, including Sunagakure and Iwagakure, had planned to attack Konoha for three years.
  • Uchiha Yan told White Zetsu to inform Nagato that he was abandoning the original plan, then sent a ninja cat to warn Fugaku about the coalition.
  • Uchiha Yan concluded that he needed to cripple the enemy's strongest fighters first.

Ch. 156No More Waiting

Konoha learned that the Four Great Ninja Villages and smaller villages were joining forces to attack, and the Third Hokage dispatched ninja to defend several fronts. Uchiha Yan reached Nange Town, where Konoha's forces launched a first strike against Kumogakure while Killer B and Dodai waited for him.

  • The Third Hokage ordered Konoha to mobilize, assigned Danzo, Yan, Koharu, Shikaku, and others to separate fronts, and kept Hyuga Taichi in the village to protect civilians.
  • Kakashi told the Third Hokage that future images showed Madara Uchiha defeating five Kage, so the Hokage sent Kakashi, Asuma, and Guy to protect Itachi.
  • Uchiha Yan arrived at Nange Town and told Aoba to hold position until Konoha's main force arrived, while Dodai confirmed Yan's presence to Killer B.
  • Inabi arrived with Konoha's troops, and Yan ordered an immediate attack on Kumogakure's force.
  • Inabi entered the battle, unleashed Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation, and began killing Kumogakure ninja with his kunai.

Ch. 157Divine Erosion

Uchiha Yan captured Yugito Nii with his Mangekyō ability, but the other jinchūriki joined the battle and forced Konoha’s forces to withdraw. After learning the daimyō had conspired to destroy the Uchiha, Yan ordered a campaign against the nations’ rulers, while news of the jinchūriki attack reached Utatane Koharu.

  • Inabi summoned his armored Susanoo against Kumogakure, but the Two-Tails intervened and turned the battle back in Kumogakure’s favor.
  • Uchiha Yan used Divine Erosion to incapacitate Yugito Nii and suppress the Two-Tails, but the Eight-Tails disrupted Inabi’s attempt to seize her.
  • Dodai revealed that the nations’ daimyō had conspired to destroy Konoha and eliminate the Uchiha, prompting Yan to order attacks on daimyō bloodlines across the shinobi world.
  • Yan summoned his silver-white Susanoo, ordered Konoha’s ninja to retreat, and attacked the Seven-Tails while Inabi protected the withdrawal.
  • Granny Chiyo stalled Utatane Koharu in the Land of Rivers and said Rasa was on another mission, leaving Koharu suspicious.
  • Koharu learned that six jinchūriki were attacking Yan and Inabi near Nange Town and that Konoha had withdrawn to defend Pingning City.

Ch. 158Massacre

Konoha fought Sunagakure as Fugaku tried to defeat Chiyo, while Danzo and Root slaughtered the Land of Fire’s daimyō and ministers after learning they had conspired against Konoha. Danzo headed for the Land of Grass, but reports of Yagura and Kisame attacking the Third Hokage left Konoha facing another threat.

  • Utatane Koharu and Chiyo accused each other over the daimyō conspiracy, then Fugaku unleashed Susanoo as Konoha and Sunagakure began their decisive battle.
  • Shisui read a scroll revealing the daimyō’s conspiracy, and Danzo ordered Fū to kill the Land of Fire’s daimyō and ministers.
  • Root ninja stormed the palace, killed Tokugawa Shin and Asuma watched them slaughter the nobles in the Capital.
  • Danzo ordered Root spies across the nations to help the Uchiha kill the daimyō bloodlines, then set off with Shisui toward the Land of Grass.
  • Yamanaka Fū sensed Yagura and the Three-Tails approaching Konoha, then reported that Kisame and other powerful ninja were attacking the Third Hokage as a Tailed Beast Bomb exploded nearby.

Ch. 159Four Kage Attack

Danzo joined the Third Hokage’s battle against the four Kage, then left to support Konoha before turning back when he realized the Third might sacrifice himself. The Third began a deadly technique to buy Danzo time, and Ōnoki ordered the others to kill him.

  • Yamanaka Fū warned Danzo that the Third Hokage was fighting the other four Kage alone, so Danzo led Root to support him.
  • Danzo revealed that he had killed the Land of Fire’s daimyō and ministers and planned to become its daimyō, while the other Kage admitted their own ambitions and grievances against their rulers.
  • The Third used the Adamantine Staff Shadow Clone Technique, injuring the four Kage and ordering Danzo to return to Konoha.
  • Danzo headed back toward the village, then turned around and ordered Yamanaka Fū to take the others onward while he returned to check on the Third.
  • Danzo found the Third restraining Yagura and fighting the others with shadow clones; the Third began a sacrificial technique to buy Danzo time, and Ōnoki flew up and ordered the Kage to kill him.

Ch. 160Yagura died, Sarutobi died

The Third Hokage used a sealing technique to kill Yagura and hold off the Fourth Raikage, Ōnoki, and Rasa before dying himself. The three leaders returned to Konoha to attack, where Uchiha Mikoto confronted them with a blue Sharingan technique.

  • The Fourth Raikage struck Danzo, but Danzo reappeared and immobilized him with the Self-Exerting Curse Binding Seal before Rasa pulled him away.
  • The Third Hokage sealed Yagura and the Three-Tails into the Shinigami's belly, killing Yagura as Ōnoki fled and the Raikage escaped the seal.
  • The Third Hokage urged Danzo to return to Konoha, then died after the enemy leaders left him behind; two White Zetsu discussed how his death disrupted Black Zetsu's plan.
  • Ōnoki, the Fourth Raikage, and Rasa reached Konoha and found Root fighting at the village entrance, then prepared to attack the village.
  • Uchiha Mikoto appeared above the gates, challenged the three leaders, and activated the Uchiha secret technique Non-Attack.
