Background / History
Tang Sect survivor
Tang Ya was the sole survivor of the massacre at the Tang Sect’s Heaven Dou City grounds, where thousands of members, including her parents, were killed. She sought revenge against the Iron Blood Sect and the City Gate Officer who had helped enable the sect’s destruction 142 164.
She retained the sect’s manuals, leadership, and special admissions quota for Shrek Academy. Hoping to restore the Tang Sect, she was willing to offer Lu Yu the sect master position if he would help rebuild it 11 12.
Early encounters with Lu Yu
Years before their reunion, Tang Ya confronted Lu Yu in Heaven Dou City for disparaging the Tang Sect. He defeated her and obtained its secret manuals. A martial soul fragment from that encounter also helped him discover Chimera’s copying ability and acquire Dark Blue Silver Grass 1 2.
Despite initially rejecting his theories, Tang Ya later used his absorption-based cultivation methods. When they met again, Lu Yu recognized the change in her vines and warned that her intended third-ring target—a Man Faced Demon Spider—could push her into becoming an Evil Soul Master 7.
She exchanged the Tang Sect’s annual special admissions quota for Lu Yu’s ongoing soul-ring guidance. The quota ultimately secured Huo Yutong’s admission to Shrek, while Lu Yu helped Tang Ya obtain a Split Nine-Headed Snake ring instead 11 12 13 19.
Shrek Academy and group cultivation
Tang Ya was a fourth-year Shrek student whose strength had recently increased sharply. She warned Lu Yu’s group about Zhou Yi’s expulsions and obedience tests, even offering to use future Tang Sect quotas to readmit them if necessary 20 41.
After accepting Xu Sanshi’s wager challenge, she allowed Lu Yu to control her body through her Sea of Consciousness. He used her vines, parasitic seeds, and poisoned hidden weapons to secure a victory officially credited to Tang Ya 24 25.
She subsequently joined Lu Yu’s cultivation circle and exchanged access to the Mysterious Heaven Skill for his instruction. Frequent leave requests to absorb plants cost her academy credits and placed her near repeating the year. Mu En knew about her dangerous talent but did not expose her because she had not killed anyone 25 26 56.
Disbanding the Tang Sect
Tang Ya’s slow cultivation eventually left her frustrated and falling behind her companions. At rank 36, she discovered a scripture attributed to Tang San containing poison methods that had not been preserved in the sect’s teachings 141.
Lu Yu then revealed that he and Tang San were enemies and asked her to choose between remaining with him and preserving the Tang Sect. He nevertheless promised her continued shelter until four rings and offered the cultivated Blue Silver King as a final gift if she chose to leave 142.
Unable to abandon either her benefactor or her parents’ legacy, Tang Ya initially struggled with the decision. Huo Yutong’s message—that her parents would value her happiness more than the sect’s survival—helped her choose to stay. She disbanded the Tang Sect, while retaining her determination to avenge her parents 142 143 160.
Revenge in Heaven Dou City
Vina revealed that Heaven Dou City’s major factions had benefited from the Tang Sect’s decline by retaining its leased soul bones and businesses. Overwhelmed by the scale of those involved, Tang Ya asked Lu Yu to limit their retaliation to the Iron Blood Sect 160.
At the former Tang Sect grounds, Tang Ya destroyed the Iron Blood Sect, killing its members along with Tie Tang and Tie Li. Completing the revenge she had once considered unattainable left her feeling empty rather than fulfilled 164.
The City Gate Officer then attempted to seize her manuals and soul bones. With battlefield absorption, Vina’s support, and Blue Silver Link, Tang Ya broke his shield, stunned him, and killed him through internal parasitic growth. She recovered five soul bones from his body, including a 50,000-year bone belonging to the Tang Sect 164 165.
Later accusations
During the competition period, Xu Sanshi cited Tang Ya’s dark vines and increased strength as evidence of evil cultivation. Shrek’s competitors continued to suspect both her and Lu Yu of being Evil Soul Masters 176 180.
Appearance
- Early appearance: Wears purplish-red clothing and keeps her hair in a ponytail 7.
- Bloodline awakening: The Blue Silver King’s sacrifice makes her noticeably more beautiful and gives her a distinctive allure 144.
- Martial soul coloration: Her vines progress from blue-purple to dark, purplish-black growth; after absorbing Ink Jade Divine Bamboo, she can produce rigid black stalks resembling bamboo 7 143 164.
- Identifying possession: The Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges soul tool at her waist allows the City Gate Officer to recognize her despite her changed appearance 164.
Personality
Tang Ya is fiercely attached to her parents and the Tang Sect. She initially treats reviving the sect as her responsibility, even considering surrendering its leadership to recruit someone capable of restoring it. Her eventual decision to dissolve it requires her to separate her own happiness from the legacy she inherited 11 12 142.
She is emotionally expressive, easily flustered by Lu Yu’s teasing, and prone to dramatic complaints. Her interest in strength can quickly overcome her indignation: she stops sulking immediately when he offers useful soul-ring advice. Although she practices cultivation, hidden weapons, secret arts, and soul tools, she admits to neglecting theory 7 8 11.
Her desire to improve competes with an aversion to painful training. She initially refuses to imitate Huo Yutong’s harsh spiritual conditioning, then accepts Lu Yu’s help when she chooses to stay with him 141 143.
Against those responsible for her family’s deaths, she is merciless. She deliberately prevents the Iron Blood Sect’s members from escaping and refuses the City Gate Officer’s plea for mercy 164 165.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Entanglement
Her first Soul Skill summons vines to restrain a target. Its usefulness improves substantially when her martial soul gains stronger underlying properties 8 143.
- Supports instant and remote casting without a cooldown 143.
- After absorbing Ink Jade Divine Bamboo, can alternate between rigid, spear-like stalks and flexible binding ropes 143.
- Restrains Jiang Nannan until she combines Waist Bow and Invincible Golden Body to force the stalks apart; Tang Ya then converts them into ropes to bind her again 143.
Blue Silver Parasite Thorn
Her second Soul Skill plants parasitic growth that consumes a target’s flesh and blood 13 25.
- Roots spread through the Split Nine-Headed Snake’s body, obstructing its splitting ability 13.
- Parasitic seeds can grow on existing vines to repair breaks and reinforce restraints 25.
- Internal bamboo growth kills Tie Li and other Iron Blood Sect members 164.
- Repeated activation drains and disables the City Gate Officer after her spears stun him 165.
Blue Silver Splitting Net
Her third Soul Skill, obtained from the Split Nine-Headed Snake, creates structured networks of vines rather than relying only on stronger individual strands 8 16 25.
- Produces large quantities of tough grass ropes rapidly 39.
- Holds thousand-year Soul Beasts during her tests after obtaining the ring 16.
- Can be divided into smaller components to preserve portions of the network against widespread destruction 146.
- Is not an absolute restraint: Lu Yu states that Xu Sanshi could have broken it with his stacked enhancements and awakened Black Tortoise Shield 25.
Dark Blue Silver Grass Absorption
Tang Ya can devour life energy to accelerate cultivation, but the method requires careful management 37 67 78.
- Plant-based cultivation: Unconscious plants produce no lingering soul hatred; their accompanying Destruction Energy can dissipate during digestion 78.
- Diminishing returns: Small patches of ordinary Blue Silver Grass become insufficient as her cultivation rises 37.
- Mental danger: Low spiritual power and the addictive nature of absorption make her vulnerable to corruption 37 67.
- Accumulated death energy: Before her fourth-ring breakthrough, Lu Yu warns that absorbing more life force could push her into becoming an Evil Soul Master 142.
- Battlefield use: Drains corpses and vegetation throughout the former Tang Sect grounds to replenish and intensify her soul power 164.
Blue Silver Emperor Bloodline
Tang Ya possesses royal Blue Silver blood, which causes lesser Blue Silver Grass to obey her martial soul 67.
- A Blue Silver King-led racial sacrifice awakens the bloodline and evolves her martial soul 144.
- Her resulting Dark Blue Silver Soul Ring increases in age according to her body’s strength 144.
- Because the sacrificed king was artificially produced, her martial soul does not evolve directly into a Dark Blue Silver Emperor 144.
- The awakening also changes her appearance 144.
Ink Jade Blue Silver Overlord Spear
Tang Ya’s evolved martial soul combines Blue Silver King properties with the hardness and resilience supplied by Ink Jade Divine Bamboo 143 144.
- Produces highly penetrating spears while retaining strong vitality and parasitic capabilities 144.
- Her fourth-ring spear attack carries a stunning effect 165.
- Uses a small breach in an opponent’s defenses to introduce parasitic seeds, enabling subsequent attacks from inside the body 144.
- Breaks the City Gate Officer’s shield with stacked support and attacks delivered through multiple spears 165.
Blue Silver Field and Blue Silver Link
Tang Ya uses a Blue Silver Field for detection and extends a ground-spreading Blue Silver Domain from her right leg during her revenge attack 143 164.
- Detection limit: Xiao Xiao bypasses her field while protected by Cauldron’s Abundance, which is immune to target lock 143.
- Battlefield coverage: Her domain spreads throughout the former Tang Sect grounds 164.
- Blue Silver Link: Her growth-capable left-hand bone allows Blue Silver Grass to act as the caster of any of her own Soul Skills 164.
- Distributed attacks: Combines Link with her fourth ring to transform scattered parasitic seeds into numerous attacking spears 164.
Tang Sect Arts and Soul Engineering
- Purple Demon Eye: Gives her familiarity with spiritual power and her Sea of Consciousness 24.
- Hidden weapons: Precisely pins the Split Nine-Headed Snake’s nine true bodies with nine Bone-Piercing Nails, aided by Huo Yutong’s detection 13.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill: Supplies the cultivation method used in her exchange with Lu Yu’s group 25 26.
- Soul engineering: Is a Level 2 Soul Engineer and expects to earn enough to repay a substantial guidance fee 11.
