Appearance

Iron Armor is an enormous, dark-gold dragon with four powerful limbs, wings, and a heavily armored body 26 28 39.

  • Size: Initially described as over twenty meters long; a later appearance places its length at more than one hundred feet 26 42.
  • Scales: Dark golden and metallic, resembling polished refined steel 26.
  • Dorsal spines: A row of sharp, half-meter-long spines carrying darkness and earth energy 26.
  • Eyes and head: Lantern-sized, blood-red eyes set in a massive, fortress-like head 26.
  • Tail: Initially described as ten meters long; used like an iron whip in combat 26.
  • Battle marks: Bears scratches and scars from sparring with Hillman, including white marks left by his Strength-infused punches 35 40 42.

Personality

Iron Armor begins as a fiercely territorial predator. Its anger frightens Mist Canyon’s other magical beasts into hiding, but its pursuit of Hillman ends at the canyon’s boundary 26. During their later encounters, Hillman recognizes a warrior’s pride in its direct attacks and its refusal to exploit his injuries to finish him off 28.

Its growing friendship with Hillman reveals a playful, affectionate temperament. It feigns openings during sparring, gently bumps him after outmaneuvering him, and appears to mock his mistakes. Away from combat, it rubs its head against him and withdraws the sharpness of its spines to avoid hurting him 28 29 32.

Its loyalty does not erase its instincts. Hillman’s request for blood initially provokes agitation and wariness because dragon blood is tied to its fundamental power. It agrees only after considering their shared history and his assurance that refusal will not damage their friendship 43.

Abilities & Skills

Physical Strength and Armored Defense

Its enormous body combines crushing force with scales that ordinary attacks cannot penetrate 26 27.

  • Charges through trees and rocks and shatters Hillman’s depleted Earth Shield with its head 26.
  • Uses claws, fangs, and sweeping tail strikes at close range; one tail strike gouges a trench several meters deep and over ten meters wide 26.
  • Breaks earth-spike restraints through brute force or destroys them with its tail before they can close 26 28.
  • Uses its dorsal spines to disperse Hillman’s Battle Qi slashes 29.
  • Has vulnerable areas around its eyes, abdomen, neck, paw pads, and wing membranes 27 28 32.

Darkness and Earth Attacks

Its spines channel both darkness and earth energy, which become increasingly integrated through training 26 29.

  • Dark corrosion: Its enraged claw attacks carry corrosive energy; a struck tree blackens and emits smoke 26.
  • Corrosive saliva: Droplets from its jaws burn small pits into rock 26.
  • Energy blades: Fires dozens of blades containing both elemental attributes from its dorsal spines 32.
  • Limit: These blades fail to crack Hillman’s Earth Shield after he imbues it with the Laws of the Earth 32.

Dragon’s Might and Roar

Its pressure can weigh on opponents like a physical burden, while its roar produces destructive sound waves 26.

  • A roar shakes the ground, disperses mist, strips branches and leaves from trees, and cracks their trunks 26.
  • Its presence suppresses Mist Canyon’s Winged Bird Dragons and Green-Striped Giant Pythons 29.
  • When enraged, the system records a 20% increase in speed 26.

Flight and Precision Control

Despite its size, Iron Armor can fly and carefully regulate the force of its movements 28 39.

  • Catches Hillman with its tail when he falls into a ravine, then sets him down safely 28.
  • Restrains its power during friendly matches and moves Hillman away from falling rubble 28 29.
  • Carries Hillman from Mist Canyon toward Fenlan City 39 40.

Intelligence and Combat Tactics

Iron Armor recognizes opponents, adapts to their tactics, and communicates through gestures and varied roars 28 39.

  • Feigns retreat to lure Hillman out of restrictive terrain before counterattacking 28.
  • Deliberately exposes its softer belly to bait attacks, then twists aside and counters with its tail 29.
  • Understands enough of Hillman’s requests to express its wish to accompany him and consent to donating blood 39 43.

Dragon Blood

Its blood contains potent draconic energy capable of awakening the Baruch Clan’s dormant Dragonblood Warrior bloodline when combined with Blue Heart Grass 42 43.

  • Hogg successfully undergoes dragon transformation after chewing three stalks of Blue Heart Grass and drinking the donated blood 43.
  • Blue Heart Grass neutralizes the blood’s violent power and assists its integration with the recipient 27 50.
  • Donating blood is a serious sacrifice: Hogg later describes the gift as essence blood and explains that losing even a few drops takes a considerable toll on a dragon 50.

Limitations

  • Restricted terrain: Its size makes narrow gullies and dense woodland difficult to navigate, allowing Hillman to escape or harass it 26 28.
  • Restraints: Hillman’s improved Earth Cage eventually holds it for roughly three breaths; his Vitality-enhanced vines also impede it 29 37.
  • Underground movement: Hillman repeatedly outmaneuvers it using the Earth Travel Technique 37.
  • Gravity suppression: Under ten times normal gravity, its limbs sink into the ground and it can barely raise its tail 38.

History

Mist Canyon and the First Battles

Iron Armor rules the forbidden ground of Mist Canyon. After Hillman kills a Winged Bird Dragon, it approaches in fury and pursues him through the canyon 25. Its corrosive claw strike and crushing charge leave Hillman near death. He survives by briefly restraining it with Earth Cage and escaping through terrain that obstructs its massive body; the dragon stops pursuing him outside its territory 26.

Hillman returns after recovering, intending to obtain its blood. Repeated defeats gradually become longer, more tactical contests. Iron Armor begins sparing him, protecting him from debris, and allowing him time to recover. Its rescue of Hillman from a ravine marks a turning point: he offers it dried Level Eight Demon Wolf meat, and their encounters become those of friends rather than mortal enemies 27 28.

Five Months of Sparring

Over five months, Iron Armor becomes Hillman’s regular training partner. It deliberately restrains its power and uses feints and controlled counters to sharpen his technique. Both improve: Hillman approaches his Saint-level breakthrough, while the dragon develops tougher scales and more condensed elemental power 29.

Sharing dried Level Eight Demon Wolf meat becomes their post-sparring ritual, and the meat becomes Iron Armor’s favorite food. Hillman eventually shares the last piece with it and leaves to seek a breakthrough deeper in the Magical Beast Forest 29.

Hillman’s Return and Cultivation

When Hillman returns at Saint-level, Iron Armor eagerly challenges him. Their contest lasts more than a hundred exchanges, with both avoiding lethal blows; Hillman ends it by acknowledging that the dragon is still stronger 32.

After Hillman drives a Gold-Eater Demon Ape away from Mist Canyon, Iron Armor shows its approval. It continues helping him test his developing Earth profound mysteries, facing his reshaped stone weapons, concentrated strength, underground movement, healing techniques, and gravity domain 33 34 35 36 37 38.

Iron Armor remains beside Hillman during his ascent to godhood despite its alarm at the descending natural laws. When he prepares to leave, it insists on accompanying him, circles Mist Canyon in farewell, and offers him its back for the journey 39.

Journey to Wushan Town and Blood Donation

After carrying Hillman to Fenlan City, Iron Armor waits in the woods outside the city. Hillman later introduces it to Hogg by the name Iron Armor, and it follows their carriage toward Wushan Town while keeping to the forest’s edge 40 42.

At the Wu Mountain range, Hillman asks for blood to restore the Baruch Clan’s dormant bloodline. Their conversation recalls earlier acts of mutual protection: Iron Armor held off three Crimson Flame Demon Tigers for him, while Hillman sought medicine in a poisonous swamp and shielded the injured dragon during a beast tide 43.

Iron Armor ultimately exposes a neck blood vessel and permits Hillman to collect just under half a bottle. Hillman then leads it to a secluded temporary home with a clear stream and abundant vegetation. Its gift enables Hogg’s transformation and provides a foundation for the clan’s bloodline revival 43 44.

Relationships

  • Hillman — Former enemy turned trusted companion, sparring partner, and rider. Their bond develops through repeated combat, shared meals, and reciprocal protection 28 29 39 43.
  • Hogg — Initially awed by Iron Armor; later receives its donated blood and awakens as a Dragonblood Warrior 42 43.
  • Baruch Clan — Beneficiary of its voluntary blood donation. Hillman promises that the clan will remember its kindness and become dependable allies of dragons 43.
  • Mist Canyon’s magical beasts — Its former subjects in practice: Winged Bird Dragons and Green-Striped Giant Pythons hide or fall silent under its Dragon’s Might 26 29.
