Olivier glanced back at Desri and the others. "Go on ahead. Leave him to me."
His tone was calm, as though he were stating something perfectly natural. His fingers gently rubbed the sword hilt, feeling its familiar patterns beneath his fingertips.
Desri frowned deeply. "Olivier, we should take him together. This Evil Eye King is no weaker than the Mother Empress. His soul attacks-"
"His soul attacks don't work on me," Olivier interrupted, his voice quiet but unquestionable.
He had already realized that the Evil Eye King's soul attacks could trouble him, but precisely because he could handle them, he wanted all the more to test his growth. "Having you here will only hold me back. Besides, he's more interested in me than in you now."
He had guessed correctly. The Evil Eye King was almost indifferent to Desri and the others leaving-at this level, everyone at the Saint-level Limit was the same in his eyes, not worth making a special effort to stop.
"We'd better leave first," the eldest Six-Eyed Golden Lion said, turning all three heads toward Desri. "Besides soul attacks, the Evil Eye Clan also has methods of soul control. If we stay and our souls aren't as strong as his, he might control us and use us against Olivier instead. Rather than forcing Olivier to divide his attention to protect us, we should withdraw and let him fight without restraint."
Everyone was inwardly startled. Soul control-if his opponents became his own companions, could Olivier still fight with all his strength? Desri considered for a moment, then nodded. But he still looked at Wangcai.
Wangcai spoke. "I'll stay with Olivier. You go up first. That move of his doesn't work on me."
He said it casually, but its meaning was clear to everyone-Wangcai would back Olivier up.
