Attainment and Hierarchy

  • A Sovereign Spark is indispensable. Refining a dedicated Sovereign Spark is the only stated route to becoming an Overgod; overwhelming strength alone cannot replace it 372 373.
  • Paragon attainment is not a prerequisite. Lingmeng holds a legitimate Overgod position despite possessing only a Midgod-level body and comprehension barely at the Asura level 344 345.
  • Paragon is the ceiling of cultivation through one's own efforts. Overgod attainment additionally depends on obtaining a Sovereign Spark through opportunity, accumulation, and fortune 274 345.
  • Overgod authority exceeds Paragon Willpower Might. Even Shiheng's ten portions of Paragon will, nearly Sovereign-equivalent divine power, and perfected four-law fusion do not make him a true Overgod 373.
Rank Documented Details
Lower Sovereign Lowest Overgod rank. Some Lower Sovereigns form an offensive and defensive alliance to resist suppression by higher-ranking Sovereigns 346.
Mid-level Sovereign Ranked above Lower Sovereigns and below Upper Sovereigns 346.
Upper Sovereign Highest of the three stated ranks 346.

Individual Strength

  • Rank imposes a strict hierarchy: the suppression between Lower, Mid-level, and Upper Sovereigns is described as insurmountable 346.
  • Personal foundations still matter: Lingmeng ranks last among the Life God Realm's seven Overgods in combat strength, source power, and accumulated reserves 345.
  • Paragon comprehension can greatly strengthen a Spark-holder: the Other Shore Flower God believes that obtaining even a Lower Death Sovereign Spark would let her defeat the Demon Race ancestor who imprisoned her 277.
  • Soul mutation can amplify the benefit of a Spark: the Other Shore Flower God predicts that Shiheng could obtain Mid-level Sovereign strength, or possibly Elemental Sovereign combat power, from even a Lower Sovereign Spark 275.

Powers and Abilities

Divine Authority

Overgods possess planar authority and source power unavailable to ordinary God-level cultivators 345 379.

  • Their pressure can suppress space, divine power, and the operation of laws across enormous territories 346 352.
  • An Overgod can suppress and kill an Asura with a thought, provided a Plane does not completely separate them 321.
  • Lingmeng's arrival forcibly stops Shiheng and the Life Divine Tree's battle despite both possessing Ultra-Paragon combat strength 344.
  • Their authority provides protection from backlash associated with planar rules 379.

Divine Perception

  • Lingmeng extends his divine sense across the Life God Realm and immediately identifies the combatants disturbing his seclusion 344.
  • His perception detects Kailin's soul fluctuations and emotional attachment, allowing him to identify her as leverage against Shiheng 346.
  • Distance remains relevant against exceptional opponents: killing a distant powerhouse possessing Willpower Might is difficult even for an Overgod 321.

Sovereign's Might

Sovereign's Might is the fundamental power of the Overgod tier. Lower-ranked cultivators can expend it to temporarily enhance their own abilities 287 311.

  • Strengthens the body, divine power, law techniques, and overall combat performance 287.
  • Supports regeneration; the Demon Race patriarch loses its restorative enhancement after exhausting his supply 315.
  • Is commonly measured in drops when distributed to followers 287 318.
  • Remains scarce among ordinary experts: few Asuras, Highgods, and Demons in the Life God Realm can wield it 311.

Sealing Formations

  • The Demon Race ancestor uses Destruction Sovereign authority and Sovereign's Might to create a sealing formation spanning tens of millions of miles 277.
  • His formation confines the Other Shore Flower God, erodes her soul, and enables her Death resonance to nourish his descendants 277 280.
  • Even an ancient, damaged Overgod formation makes Paragon-strength Shiheng feel insignificant before it 339.
  • These formations are not infallible: the Other Shore Flower God escapes by severing her planar bond and concealing her soul within Shiheng's blade, while Shiheng later breaks the damaged barrier holding the Azure Dragon prisoners 279 340.

Restrictions

Material Planes

  • An Overgod's true body cannot descend into an ordinary Material Plane. The plane cannot withstand its magnitude; forced entry would destroy the plane and fatally damage the Overgod's will, Divine Core, and source 345.
  • Clones do not necessarily possess enough strength to overcome a Material Plane's defenders. The allied Overgods cannot remove Beirut's protection of the Human Emperor's home plane through their clones 353.
  • Consequently, Overgods rely on subordinates for planar conquests, resource acquisition, secret-realm exploration, and struggles over faith 345.

Relations with Paragons

  • Overgods observe an unwritten convention against casually suppressing Paragons or creating mortal feuds with them 345.
  • Paragons are valuable agents in territories their patrons cannot personally enter, and their participation greatly improves a faction's prospects in planar wars 345.
  • This convention is not immunity: a Paragon who actively provokes or attacks an Overgod can still face lethal retaliation 345.
  • It is also not an absolute prohibition. Lingmeng attacks Shiheng and the Life Divine Tree after they refuse recruitment, using Kailin's refusal to serve him as a pretext 346.

Rule and Power of Faith

  • Territorial government: each of the Life God Realm's seven continents is ruled by a legitimate Overgod controlling its domain's source, rules, and faith 345.
  • Competition: those seven rulers cooperate against external rivals while checking and competing with one another internally 345.
  • Cultivation: the diversion of human faith to the Human Emperor slows the cultivation of Overgods who previously shared that faith 353.
  • Unequal dependence: faith is especially important to the weak Lingmeng Overgod; the other six Life Overgods possess much deeper reserves and gain comparatively little from additional faith 345.
  • Administration: ordinary Highgods serve in forces described as Overgod troops. Azure Nether City's teleportation guards, for example, receive arriving Saints and Lowgods rather than personally possessing Overgod cultivation 294.
  • Emissaries: Overgods recruit powerful representatives with offers of resources and equipment. Lingmeng offers Shiheng and the Life Divine Tree one hundred thousand drops of Sovereign's Might, a Sovereign Artifact, and freedom in exchange for service 346.

Equipment and Resources

  • Sovereign Spark — Establishes the holder's Overgod position and supplies the higher will that separates a true Overgod from even the strongest Paragons 344 373 377.
  • Sovereign Artifacts — Forged by Overgods through prolonged refinement and expenditure of essence. Their numbers are limited, and wealth alone cannot purchase one 315.
  • Artifact allocation covenant — Even an Overgod's child is permitted only one Sovereign Artifact; most personal disciples and emissaries likewise possess only one 315.
  • Artifact reclamation — An Overgod normally reclaims an emissary's Sovereign Artifact after its owner's death. If the patron Overgod has fallen, another person may acquire it without violating the covenant 318.
  • Family reserves — Overgod descendants can receive resources far beyond those of ordinary experts. The Demon Race Overgod's Early Asura grandson carries a complete Sovereign Artifact and Sovereign's Might 293.

Story Role

Captivity of the Other Shore Flower God

The Demon Race ancestor fears that the Death Paragon could surpass him by obtaining a Sovereign Spark. He confines her and exploits her resonance as a cultivation resource for his descendants. Her escape into Shiheng's Death Battle Blade removes the formation's target without immediately alerting her captor 277 279 280.

Fall of the Earth Sovereign

The Azure Dragon Sovereign and two allied Divine Beast Overgods destroy the Earth Sovereign's original Overgod existence and take her Spark. Her surviving selves preserve the resulting grudge for ages, eventually imprisoning and torturing Azure Dragon descendants in the Life Secret Realm 325 341.

Lingmeng's Strike

After Shiheng and the Life Divine Tree reject his recruitment, Lingmeng attempts to destroy them with a casual palm strike. Their resistance lasts a year and consumes their reserves before Shiheng's Fate Highgod breakthrough finally enables him to shatter the remaining attack 346 348 350 353.

Shiheng explicitly recognizes that surviving this single strike does not make him capable of fighting an Overgod directly. Lingmeng leaves for Hell without checking the result and continues to believe the human Paragon is dead 353.

Campaign against the Human Emperor

At the Hell council, the Demon Race Overgod identifies the Human Emperor's gathering of human faith as a threat to their cultivation. The assembled Overgods agree to have their followers kill or permanently imprison him once he leaves his protected Material Plane 353.

Even after reaching the God-level limit and overwhelming ordinary Paragons, Shiheng still lacks the compatible Sovereign Spark needed to become a true Overgod 374 379.
