At the intersection two hundred meters east of the north gate-your boyfriend's been cornered!
Jiang Lan looked at Wen Zhiyan's face and, for a moment, actually couldn't tell whether he was joking.
Only when Jiang Lan still didn't take it did Wen Zhiyan speak again. "Take it. I got a part-time job and paid for it."
Jiang Lan rubbed his nose. He was just about to say that Wen Zhiyan shouldn't spend money carelessly when he was broke, that he appreciated the gesture but Wen Zhiyan should take it back, when Wen Zhiyan firmly shoved the bag of coffee into his arms.
"Go to class. I'm leaving."
With that, without caring what Jiang Lan might think or say, he turned and strode away.
Watching Wen Zhiyan's figure gradually disappear at the end of the corridor, Jiang Lan's lips curved.
Such an awkward kid.
After this incident, the relationship Jiang Lan had only just cleared up became ambiguous all over again.
This time, no matter how he argued his case, nobody believed him.
Everyone also decided that the reason Jiang Lan rarely interacted with Wen Zhiyan was that the young couple were having a spat, and they would make up sooner or later.
But after that, Wen Zhiyan didn't appear before Jiang Lan again for a long time.
S University held an autumn sports meet at the end of September every year.
Before the sports meet, the university student council had to handle all kinds of preparations and registrations. Jiang Lan worked nonstop for several days, staying busy every day until he could only make it back just before the dormitory doors were locked.
On the evening before the sports meet, Jiang Lan finally saw a glimmer of hope that this busy stretch would end. He put away his materials and said goodbye to the other council members, ready to return to his dorm, take a nice hot shower, and lie in bed spending a pleasant, relaxing evening with his phone.
Unexpectedly, he had barely stepped out of the student council office when Xiao Bai called.
These past two days, just seeing a call from someone on the student council made Jiang Lan's head hurt.
So he chose to pretend he hadn't heard it and put his phone back in his pocket.
If it was student council business, Xiao Bai would naturally find someone else when he couldn't reach him.
But what gave Jiang Lan a bad feeling was that after he ignored the first call, Xiao Bai called a second time.
Jiang Lan sighed and answered.
"It's past ten. Whatever it is, can't we leave it until tomorrow morn-"
But Xiao Bai didn't wait for Jiang Lan to finish. He cut him off, speaking rapidly.
"Hurry, Lan-ge! At the intersection two hundred meters east of the north gate-your boyfriend's been cornered!"
Jiang Lan froze, failing to catch on. "Whose boyfriend?"
Xiao Bai paused, then burst out cursing.
"What the fuck do you mean, whose boyfriend? Yours! That freshman! Hurry, there's a whole bunch of them. I was on the bus just now, and the driver took me a whole kilometer away. I'm heading back now. I'll call the police first. Get moving!"
Jiang Lan's expression sharpened. The area around the north gate was secluded, and several surveillance cameras were broken. The consequences of an omega being cornered there alone were unthinkable.
This time, he didn't hesitate. He hung up and broke into a run toward the north gate.
The first-year jewelry design course schedule at S University was packed.
Wednesday afternoons and weekends were the only times Wen Zhiyan could spare any daylight hours to work part-time at the café.
But he was really struggling financially right now. Even if he could cut back on living expenses, it was obvious that since the Wen family had frozen his cards already, they certainly wouldn't pay his tuition next year either. He would have to find a way himself.
With no other choice, he could only rush over after class every evening as well to earn his hourly wages.
For the first half month, everything went smoothly. Although people from outside the university often couldn't help giving Wen Zhiyan a few extra looks when they came in, those brazen enough to approach him for his contact information were few, let alone anyone coming specifically to corner him.
But ten days earlier, a few thugs in their twenties had suddenly come into the café. Their leader was a tall, burly man. He wasn't bad-looking, but his air of a gang boss made people keep their distance.
The moment he entered, he spotted Wen Zhiyan standing behind the register, head lowered as he checked the accounts.
They ordered a few coffees and sat by the window, staring at Wen Zhiyan without looking away all evening, right up until his shift ended.
While considering the possibility of gouging the bastard's eyes out, Wen Zhiyan silently kept his head down and continued working, pretending nothing had happened.
That first night, those men didn't come up to harass Wen Zhiyan.
But over the following week, they came every day.
Wen Zhiyan had considered quitting, but he had asked about all the part-time jobs nearby. This one alone paid the most and offered weekly pay.
Wen Zhiyan was reluctant to give it up, but he still started looking online for tutoring jobs while continuing to make do here.
Unfortunately, before he could secure a tutoring job, those men finally lost their patience.
After Wen Zhiyan finished work, they followed right on his heels and surrounded him near the entrance to this alley, blocking his way.
Wen Zhiyan stopped and looked at the man leading them, his tone indifferent.
"Need something?"
The man stared openly at Wen Zhiyan, lit a cigarette, and spoke slowly.
"I've been coming to see you for half a month. That's sincerity enough. Be with me. I'll treat you well."
Wen Zhiyan looked the man up and down, then scoffed. "You?"
The man didn't immediately fly into a rage at Wen Zhiyan's provocation. He laughed too and said, "You need money, don't you? I'll give it to you."
"Just go to school like a good boy. I won't bother you. After class, give me the time you spend working. I'll cover your tuition and living expenses. Whatever you want, I'll buy it for you. How about it?"
Whenever an alpha stared at him like that, Wen Zhiyan felt irritated and repulsed.
This pig of a man had stared at him for half a month, and just because he hadn't said anything, the man had taken it as consent. Now he even had the nerve to shamelessly offer to keep him.
It disgusted Wen Zhiyan so much that his stomach churned.
He looked at the man and sneered.
"Who the hell do you think you are? Stay away from me."
Seeing how little Wen Zhiyan appreciated his offer, the man dropped his smile and showed his true colors.
"When you omegas go into heat, aren't you just dogs waiting for an alpha to f- you? Why act so pure?"
"You're lucky I've taken a liking to you. Don't fucking throw my generosity back in my face."
As he said this, he was already prepared to watch Wen Zhiyan lose his temper, then force himself on him.
Unexpectedly, Wen Zhiyan didn't show the slightest anger at those words.
He suddenly laughed. Still laughing, he crooked a finger at the man, the corners of his lips lifting.
"Come here. I'll give you something to appreciate."
In the man's eyes, Wen Zhiyan was nothing more than a defenseless omega.
He felt as though Wen Zhiyan's gaze held a hook, making him itch unbearably with desire, the gland at the back of his neck throbbing and growing hot.
He approached Wen Zhiyan, intending to tell him that as long as he behaved and obeyed, he would definitely show him plenty of tender loving care.
But just as he reached Wen Zhiyan and was about to put an arm around his shoulders, Wen Zhiyan caught him off guard with a vicious punch straight to the face, sending his head snapping back as he staggered three steps backward.
The man was stunned by Wen Zhiyan's brutal punch.
When he recovered, he turned his head and spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, snarling, "You filthy bitch! You've got a fucking death wish!"
