Lin Ziyou scoffed. "How do you know I'd drag you down?"
Jiang Lan started a match himself. "If I hadn't debuted back then, I would've gone into esports."
Half convinced, Lin Ziyou finished his current match, then craned his neck across the aisle between their beds to watch Jiang Lan play.
His moves looked dazzling, but his opponents remained completely unscathed.
After watching for a while, Lin Ziyou couldn't help saying, "Good grief, Lan-ge. With all due respect, planting a Peashooter in the farm lane would do more than you. And you wanted to go pro?"
Jiang Lan glanced up at him. "I just don't play much."
Lin Ziyou was speechless. "Don't you get flamed, playing like that?"
Jiang Lan was unbothered. "I never turn on voice chat."
"..." Lin Ziyou fell silent.
Jiang Lan really didn't play much, partly because he had no time, and partly because he wasn't very interested.
By the time Jiang Lan had fed the enemy enough kills, the bathroom door clicked open from inside.
Jiang Lan and Lin Ziyou instinctively looked toward the bathroom door. Wen Zhiyan had changed into royal-blue silk pajamas, the front hanging slightly open at his chest. Droplets fell from the ends of his somewhat long hair, slid down his fair chest, and disappeared beneath his collar.
Jiang Lan had always loved the way Wen Zhiyan looked fresh out of the shower.
The hot water flushed his porcelain-white skin, making his features look even more striking. His hair, usually tied back, fell over his shoulders in curling arcs. No matter how one looked at him, he seemed to be deliberately seducing someone.
His beauty blurred the line between masculine and feminine, and it was devastating.
Wen Zhiyan looked at the two gazes turned his way. "What is it?"
Jiang Lan's first reaction was to look at Lin Ziyou. Seeing Lin Ziyou's gaze, his face darkened. He promptly quit the game, locked his phone, and stood to block Lin Ziyou's view, taking the hair dryer from the cabinet and shoving it into Wen Zhiyan's arms.
"Dry your hair before you come out. You're dripping everywhere. How are you supposed to sleep?"
Wen Zhiyan took the hair dryer, said, "Oh," and obediently turned back to dry his hair.
Jiang Lan climbed back into bed, lay down, and slapped the bedside lamp off.
"President Wen isn't out yet," Lin Ziyou said. "He won't be able to see."
Silently cursing Wen Zhiyan and wondering who he was trying to show off to with his collar open so wide, Jiang Lan pulled his blanket up.
"I'm tired. I'm going to sleep. President Wen's a top-tier alpha. He can find his way in the dark."
The room fell dark, and silence settled over them. Jiang Lan and Lin Ziyou lay in their respective beds, neither particularly sleepy, and could only quietly listen to the hum of the hair dryer in the bathroom beyond the door.
After an unknown stretch of time, the hair dryer stopped.
Jiang Lan heard the bathroom door open again, accompanied by the sound of Lin Ziyou turning over.
Lying flat on his back with his eyes closed, he soon felt the other side of the mattress dip slightly.
Then a warm presence, carrying the faint, fresh scent of shampoo, enveloped Jiang Lan, seeping into every gap.
Jiang Lan swallowed, his eyelids moving slightly.
Since breaking up with Wen Zhiyan, Jiang Lan had never shared a bed with anyone else.
He could no longer remember how long it had been since he had experienced this feeling, every breath and every pore in his body desperately yearning to draw in another person's scent.
Wen Zhiyan had never been someone whose presence went unnoticed.
From the past to the present, whenever and wherever he appeared, he quickly became the focus of everyone's attention.
Once upon a time, whenever Wen Zhiyan was there, Jiang Lan had never had eyes for anyone else.
Now, even in the dark, even with his eyes closed, he could feel the presence unique to Wen Zhiyan engulf him in that instant.
Jiang Lan held his breath and shifted toward the edge of the bed.
Wen Zhiyan seemed to notice Jiang Lan's movement. He paused as he lay down, then settled on the other side of the bed, keeping a very proper distance.
Miles away from Jiang Lan.
Neither spoke.
There were two thin blankets on the bed, forming a barrier between Jiang Lan and Wen Zhiyan.
After a long while, Lin Ziyou broke the silence first, speaking softly. "Lan-ge, President Wen, are you asleep?"
Jiang Lan said nothing.
He had already said he was tired, so of course he had to pretend to be asleep now.
Wen Zhiyan had only just gotten into bed. Not even a ghost would believe he was asleep already.
So he lowered his voice to a whisper and asked, "What is it?"
"I'm a little nervous," Lin Ziyou said.
Speechless, Jiang Lan tugged at his blanket and thought, Your ex isn't even sharing your bed. What the hell are you so nervous about?
Wen Zhiyan didn't understand either. "Nervous?"
Lin Ziyou murmured an assent. "Are you really okay sleeping with Lan-ge? Will you two get into a fight tonight? If it's not okay..."
Jiang Lan began to grit his teeth. He thought Lin Ziyou was far too calculating, acting all proper with the lights on, then starting to make a move the moment they went off. This was clearly an invitation to Wen Zhiyan while he thought Jiang Lan was asleep.
Wen Zhiyan interrupted him, saying evenly, "We won't. Teacher Jiang was joking. Alphas aren't wild beasts. We don't suddenly lose our reason in our sleep. Get some sleep."
Seeing how firmly Wen Zhiyan refused, Lin Ziyou could only say, "Oh. Good night, President Wen."
Wen Zhiyan murmured an acknowledgment. He had only just settled beneath his blanket when Jiang Lan suddenly slipped a foot under it and kicked him.
Wen Zhiyan raised his legs and trapped Jiang Lan's ankle between his calves, keeping him from moving.
Jiang Lan wanted to move but was afraid of disturbing Lin Ziyou, so he could only secretly try to pinch the skin on Wen Zhiyan's calf with two toes.
Jiang Lan's nimble toes twisted Wen Zhiyan's skin painfully, leaving him no choice but to silently release Jiang Lan in the dark.
Jiang Lan withdrew his foot and rolled over as though casually, turning his back to Wen Zhiyan.
The pitch-black room fell silent again.
Only after an unknown stretch of time, when Jiang Lan heard Lin Ziyou's breathing gradually even out in the next bed, did he sigh in relief and secretly wriggle beneath his blanket, signaling to Wen Zhiyan that he was still awake.
But Wen Zhiyan didn't respond.
Jiang Lan moved again.
Wen Zhiyan still didn't respond.
Jiang Lan opened his eyes and stealthily turned to look at Wen Zhiyan, only to find him lying flat on the other side of the bed, his hands and feet all beneath the blanket, with only his head showing. He lay as still and quiet as a dead man.
A surge of anger immediately rose in Jiang Lan's heart. He slipped his foot beneath Wen Zhiyan's blanket again, about to deliver a vicious kick to his thigh, only for Wen Zhiyan to seize his ankle.
Startled, Jiang Lan was just about to pull his foot back when Wen Zhiyan lifted his blanket and gave a forceful tug, dragging Jiang Lan over, blanket and all...
