"Much better." Xie Xiyi curved his lips as he spoke to Chi Yu.
"Really?" Chi Yu did not believe him. Senior Brother Xuanji was too proud. If I hadn't pressed him, he probably wouldn't even have told me his essence was depleted and damaged. Now he's saying he's much better, but he's only glossing things over.
At the thought, Chi Yu's brilliant golden eyes dimmed a little. His beautiful face, usually so full of life from his constant smiles, also dulled, revealing a trace of melancholy and sorrow.
There was so little he could do. He did not know how to truly help Senior Brother Xuanji and could only helplessly offer him a few Nascent Soul Spirits, a mere drop in the bucket. Yet he still hoped they could really help his injuries. Wasn't that asking too much?
Xie Xiyi: "..."
His fingers clasped Chi Yu's hand, his fingertips stroking the knuckles.
The demonic heart had already become one with him. Compared with his restraint as Xuanji, he now had a greater streak of malice and a stronger urge to destroy. After learning that the deadly poison in Chi Yu's body had no effect on him, that destructive urge had reached unprecedented heights.
He should have cherished Chi Yu, should not have let sorrow and melancholy replace his often exuberant smile, should not have made him so sad and worried. Yet with his demonic heart, seeing Chi Yu's entire heart stirred by him, every expression on his face arising because of him, brought him a secret delight.
Then that delight turned into a deeper, darker, worse desire: to make Chi Yu show more pitiful expressions.
Chi Yu lowered his eyes. There it was again, that look in Senior Brother Xuanji's eyes. He felt as though his whole body were burning.
