Looking back on that day, the only way to describe it was utter chaos.
Gouzai usually ate and slept well, and she felt quite heavy when picked up. The two adults simply assumed she had gained weight and never considered anything else.
Now that she was giving birth, not only was Little Bai panicking, but Ding Ding was at a complete loss too.
"Get a doctor! Get my brother-in-law!"
They laid a thick layer of blankets in the cat bed, and Ding Ding called Sun Chang'an-after all, he was the only skilled doctor they knew.
Hearing that a cat was giving birth clearly left Sun Chang'an a little speechless, but he wasted no time, hurrying over with Ding Shu, who had come along to join the excitement.
Gouzai's abdomen visibly contracted, and her cries were weak. Bai Congming stroked her head very gently, mumbling something too indistinct to make out.
"What do we do now?"
With a little blood on him, Ding Ding crouched in front of the cat bed and turned to Sun Chang'an for help.
"It's fine." Sun Chang'an felt Gouzai over. "Get some lickable cat treats and feed her slowly. She can give birth on her own."

Bai Congming was very eager. Although he might not understand what a remarkable thing the birth of a life was, that did nothing to diminish his care for Gouzai.
She was usually only allowed three tubes of cat treats a day, but Bai Congming opened five at once.
"Eat, Gouzai! Fill your tummy!"
"Meow..."
The response was not in human language, but Bai Congming seemed to understand and nodded blankly.
"You're welcome."
The first kitten arrived sooner than expected.
