| Name | Lezheng Youyan 2 |
| Original Name | 乐正 |
| Gender | Male |
| Affiliation | Advanced Nurturing High School; Class 1-A, later Class 2-A; Student Council 1 4 45 |
| Occupation/Role | Student; Student Council member, later Student Council President 4 39 |
| Status | Active; competing solo in the all-grade deserted island exam 49 50 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 1, “The start of school” |
Background
Before enrolling at Advanced Nurturing, Lezheng worked as a waiter alongside Kawasaki. The two helped each other at work; during his first appearance, she assisted him in escaping an uncomfortable customer interaction by supporting his pretended fainting spell 1.
His childhood records describe him as intelligent and charismatic, with no evidence of specialized training or altered records. After examining them, Sakayanagi Arisu concluded that his abilities had developed naturally. Lezheng also says he once hoped to become a professional chess player but abandoned that ambition for his studies 13 22.
Lezheng previously sought a hospital diagnosis for his unusual episodes. A doctor classified his condition as a psychological illness, while Lezheng understood it as chuunibyou, or adolescent delusions of grandeur. His school assessment similarly flagged possible psychological issues and assigned him to Class A for observation 4 8.
Appearance
- Good looks: Yamamura identifies his appearance as the reason she recognized him, while Class D girls describe him as handsome and report that he leads the boys’ popularity rankings 3 25.
- Deceptively slight impression: Kamuro calls him frail before challenging him to race; his later strength measurements sharply contradict that impression 5 24.
- Temporary injuries: After fighting Nagumo’s group at the training camp, he has welts across his back, bruised and swollen arms, and a bandaged forehead 33.
Personality
Lezheng presents himself as easygoing and ordinary despite his exceptional assessments. He names spacing out as a hobby, daydreams about becoming an armored hero during the entrance ceremony, and becomes so absorbed in fiction that he briefly introduces himself as Jack while reading The Shining. These episodes coexist with careful observation and practical information gathering 2 3 4 5.
His humor is often teasing or deliberately provocative. He repeatedly needles Sakayanagi, trades insults with Kamuro, and favors the saying, “Be quick to admit your mistakes, but never change your ways.” He also avoids unnecessary displays of ability, explaining that one solution to a mathematics problem was enough to establish that he could solve it 9 15 47.
His helpfulness does not prevent him from using coercion. He retrieves Yamamura’s ribbon, catches students before dangerous falls, and protects Karuizawa, but also blackmails Kamuro and engineers illness to manipulate exam rules. At the training camp, he does not beat students for minor disruptions, yet retaliates forcefully when Nagumo attacks his classmates 2 3 19 21 31 32.
Lezheng objects to treating children purely as products of training. After hearing about the White Room, he argues internally that children should have room to follow their natural instincts rather than spend their entire childhood training 38.
Abilities & Skills
School Assessments
His enrollment file rates him far above his peers, with intelligence, judgment, and physical ability explicitly marked as provisional assessments 4.
| Category | Rating | Assessment Notes |

| Academic ability | A+ | One of four A+ ratings in his enrollment file 4 |
| Intelligence | A+ | Provisionally rated 4 |
| Judgment | A+ | Provisionally rated 4 |
| Physical ability | A+ | Provisionally rated 4 |
| Teamwork | A | Highest category in the file not rated A+ 4 |
Academics and Rapid Learning
Lezheng combines strong academic performance with the ability to learn unfamiliar practical skills quickly.
- Solves Mashima’s difficult mathematics problem early in the school year; later reveals that he knew additional solutions but chose not to show them 4 47.
- Scores 100 in Japanese, mathematics, English, integrated studies, and social studies, despite each exam containing a ten-point question outside the syllabus 47.
- Learns Mizuhiki craft in only a few days, then defeats Matsushita by completing nine knots in ten minutes; she finishes six and leaves her seventh incomplete 41.
- Receives the normal reward of 110,000 Private Points and 50 class points, plus an additional 1,000,000 Private Points, for his perfect five-subject result 47.
Deduction and Information Gathering
Lezheng notices discrepancies in school rules and gathers evidence before committing to a strategy.
- Infers that the initial 100,000 Private Points are misleading after noticing free provisions and ambiguous teacher explanations 2 3.

- Defeats Nagumo in single combat, dodging powder thrown at his face before knocking him unconscious 31.
- Defeats ten of Nagumo’s followers during a later confrontation, then overcomes a group of more than thirty boys, some using improvised weapons 32 33.
- Knocks Hosen unconscious after Hosen attacks him in public 45 46.
- Is not invulnerable: the large training-camp fight leaves him injured and in need of treatment 33.
Leadership and Negotiation
Lezheng gains cooperation through competence, bargaining, and credible deterrence.
- Becomes his training-camp group’s accepted leader, with Katsuragi’s support; students from other classes praise the group’s efficiency under him 31.
- Replaces Ryuuen’s proposed monthly-payment arrangement with an information-sharing pact against Class B 17.
- Tests Class A’s athletic abilities and allocates Sports Festival roles according to the results 24.
- Uses the threat of direct retaliation against Nagumo to discourage attacks on his classmates 32.
- Negotiates Hosen’s punishment with Tsukishiro and Chairman Sakayanagi, then publishes it on the school website 46.
Board Games
- Chess: Formerly aspired to play professionally. By the time Sakayanagi asks him to review her Command Tower match, she acknowledges that his skills have surpassed hers 13 44.
- Chinese chess: Splits ten games with Sakayanagi five to five during summer vacation 14.
Practical Skills
- Cooking: Initially describes his repertoire as noodles, egg fried rice, and “rice-fried eggs.” He remains an amateur during the training camp but later mentions learning a new dish 2 30 48.
- Fishing: Catches a fish by hand in a stream during the all-grade island exam 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Enrollment and Student Council Recruitment
Lezheng enters Class 1-A and quickly questions the apparent generosity of the Private Point system. He gathers information from upperclassmen, catches Kamuro stealing, and avoids committing himself to either Sakayanagi or Katsuragi’s faction. Manabu then recruits him into the Student Council after reviewing his extraordinary enrollment assessments 1 2 3 4.
His early council responsibilities include recording the hearing over Sudo’s fight with three Class C students and collecting first-year rosters for the school’s relocation. During the hearing, he suspects that Ryuuen engineered the confrontation and that Ayanokoji is assisting Class D from behind the scenes 10 11 14.
First Deserted Island and VIP Exams
Lezheng pushes Class A beyond Katsuragi’s conservative island strategy, negotiates information sharing with Ryuuen, and directs reconnaissance. He later gives Totsuka plant shoots that make him ill, creating the grounds for Hashimoto to replace him as leader. Class A submits only Class B’s leader in its final guesses and wins with 217 points, ahead of Class C’s 100, Class D’s 86, and Class B’s 26 17 18 19.
On the cruise ship, Lezheng establishes his protection agreement with Karuizawa. During the subsequent VIP Exam, he favors early reporting, coordinates information sharing among Class A’s leading students, and recognizes a name-ordering pattern 21 22.
Sports Festival and Mixed Training Camp
Mashima places Lezheng in charge of Class A’s Sports Festival preparations. He measures classmates’ physical abilities, assigns roles, coordinates with Class D, and demonstrates his own speed by winning the 100-meter final 24 25.
At the mixed training camp, Nagumo offers him twenty million Private Points to abandon the Student Council presidency. Their dispute escalates into repeated fights after Nagumo targets Lezheng’s classmates. Lezheng defeats Nagumo’s larger groups, conceals his injuries behind a story about falling, and recruits Tachibana and Suzune into a food-tampering countermeasure. By the end of camp, Nagumo has lost forty million Private Points, while negative rumors spread with Lezheng’s encouragement 30 31 32 33 34.
Presidency and the Command Tower Exam
Lezheng is addressed as Student Council President by Chapter 39. He rejects Tsukishiro’s proposed OAA System and later explains his own plan to reshuffle classes each semester, with Class A decided through a final match. Tsukishiro supports that proposal, but the remaining school board members reject it 39 44.
For the Command Tower Exam, Sakayanagi relies on Lezheng’s versatility to cover multiple events while she handles command. His Mizuhiki victory contributes to Class A’s overall win against Class D. Afterward, he reviews Sakayanagi’s chess loss to Ayanokoji and suggests alternatives to her Queen Sacrifice Check 40 41 42 44.
Second Year and All-Grade Island Exam
Now in Class 2-A, Lezheng pairs with Ishigami for the new examination. After Hosen attacks him, he knocks Hosen unconscious and helps determine a punishment of one month’s suspension, three months without Private Points, and solitary placement in a Special Exam group 45 46.
His subsequent perfect academic results strengthen his public reputation and counter the negative image created by his forceful enforcement. For the all-grade deserted island exam, he chooses to compete alone despite several invitations to form a group. He accepts Ayanokoji’s Trial Card and promises assistance against Tsukishiro within his abilities, then begins the exam by pursuing checkpoints and tasks 47 49 50.

“I don't know about anyone else, but I can see you.”
— To Yamamura 3
“Showing one solution was enough to let everyone know I could solve it. There was no need to reveal too much of my ability just to show off.” 47
“If anything, I've wanted to call you by your given name for a long time, Hiyori.” 48
Trivia
- His file credits him as one of the few to complete Ozaki’s Eight Items. When Kiryuin asks whether he did so alone or with a team, he replies, “With a team. I was the referee,” leaving the exact circumstances unclear 4 40.
- His explanation that a childhood wild-boar chase let him “break through [his] limiter” is presented as another chuunibyou episode, not an established source of his abilities 43.
- Taking wedding photographs with Shiina does not establish a legal marriage; their conversation describes them playfully as husband and wife “for a day” 48.
- After catching a fish during the island exam, he repeatedly greets other students with, “How did you know I caught a fish?” 50.
