Background
Before acquiring the system, Kazami was an ordinary student with average grades across his subjects. His family runs a shop, but he tells Ayanokoji and Horikita that he has no intention of inheriting it 12 19.
His system awakens while he is travelling to Advanced Nurturing High School. After giving his bus seat to an elderly woman, he meets Kushida and persuades her to call him “Big Brain,” obtaining his first copied ability. He subsequently enters Class D alongside Kushida, Ayanokoji, and Horikita 1 2.
Personality
Kazami deliberately cultivates an eccentric public image because embarrassment, confusion, jealousy, and anger can all earn him Emotion Points. He recognizes the social cost of his nickname but decides that acquiring abilities is worth enduring ridicule. His reputation spreads beyond Class D, and Kamuro recognizes him as its famous troublemaker before learning his name 2 4 17.
He is theatrical, thick-skinned, and preoccupied with becoming “king” of his class. He describes classmates as generals, interprets opposition as rebellion, and resents serving under Horikita. Nevertheless, his bravado often disappears when someone threatens to hit him; he quickly bargains, retreats, or volunteers to cooperate 23 29 34.
His helpfulness coexists with opportunism and vindictiveness. He defends Sakura against Yamauchi’s fabricated claims and sincerely advises Kamuro against sacrificing her future for shoplifting. Elsewhere, he threatens to expose secrets to secure cooperation and deliberately profits from classmates who have been badmouthing him 12 16 41 46.
Kazami is particularly susceptible to affectionate appeals from attractive girls. Kushida persuades him to arrange a meeting with Horikita despite his better judgment, and he later recognizes the same technique when she negotiates for past exam papers 8 9 42.
Abilities & Skills
Emotion Points System
The system awards Kazami Emotion Points when other people react emotionally to him. These points fund random trait draws 1.
- Lottery cost: One draw requires 1,000 Emotion Points 1.
- Audience scaling: His classroom leadership spectacle produces a much larger haul than his usual one-person provocations, pushing his balance above 1,600 24.
- Uneven returns: He finds Kamuro and Yamauchi easy to provoke, whereas Ayanokoji has yielded only eighteen points by their drawing-related meeting 17.
- Named notifications: Emotion Point messages identify their source, allowing Kazami to learn someone’s name without an introduction 17.
Big Brain
When someone voluntarily calls Kazami “Big Brain,” he can randomly copy one of that person’s abilities 1.
- Repeated use: Ayanokoji saying the nickname several times results in Kazami acquiring both piano and calligraphy 35.
- Random selection: Kazami cannot reliably obtain his preferred skill. Despite targeting Ayanokoji’s martial arts, he receives artistic abilities instead 35.
- Variable usefulness: The copied results range from master-level mathematics to fashion appreciation, which Kazami initially dismisses 2 13.
- Experience retention: Newly copied skills can already have partially filled experience bars 17 35.
- Further training: Practice can increase skill experience; Kazami observes two experience bars rising after a study session 11.
The system’s stated scale is Lv1: beginner, Lv2: proficient, Lv3: expert, Lv4: master, and Lv5: a level humans cannot reach 1.
Undressing War God
This trait increases Kazami’s physical attributes as he wears less clothing. Its description promises an ultimate, all-dimensional boost and invincibility when he is completely unclothed 24.
- Documented combat use: He strips to his underwear before joining Ayanokoji against Manabu Horikita 34 35.
- Activation drawback: He avoids relying on it against Suzune Horikita because stripping in that situation would have serious consequences 24 29.
- Unverified maximum: The confrontation with Manabu does not demonstrate the fully unclothed state described by the system 35.
Academic and Artistic Skills
Copied subject knowledge transforms Kazami’s academic performance without requiring the gradual improvement his classmates would expect 19.
- Academics: Mathematics Lv4, Physics Lv4, and Japanese Language Lv3 allow him to finish a quiz in just over ten minutes. He later reports receiving full marks 19 32.
- Tutoring: He offers to tutor Kamuro for free and agrees to help Hasebe and Sakura prepare for the midterms 32 33.
- Drawing: His technical skill is strong enough that Kamuro distinguishes it from the provocative subject matter she objects to 31.
- Music and calligraphy: He possesses Violin Lv3, Piano Lv3, and Calligraphy Lv3 13 35.
Manipulation and Negotiation
Kazami uses exaggerated sincerity, fabricated explanations, threats, and bargaining to obtain cooperation or profit 41 44 46.
- Reading hidden talent: Copied skills and everyday conversation help him recognize that Matsushita is concealing her academic ability 40.
- Coercion: He secures Matsushita’s tutoring help by threatening to reveal that ability to her friends 41.
- Salesmanship: He turns freely obtained past exam papers into a business spanning all four first-year classes 43 45 47.
- Limits: Kanzaki and Ryuen wear him down during negotiations; Ryuen’s persistent haggling leaves him determined not to repeat the experience 45.
Combat Limitations
Without activating his clothing-dependent trait, Kazami remains vulnerable to trained opponents 11 29.
- Horikita outpaces him in a chase and overwhelms his reactions and close-quarters technique 10 11.
- Against Manabu, he relies on Ayanokoji’s frontal engagement to create an opening for a below-the-belt ambush 34.
- Himeno lands blows on him after revealing training in judo, taekwondo, and women’s self-defense 44.
- Kushida eventually exhausts and catches him during a prolonged chase 50.
Equipment / Items
- Art supplies — Carries sketching paper and pencils to Kamuro’s apartment for drawing lessons 18.
- Past midterm papers — Obtains a copy through Kushida and uses it as the basis of his resale business 43.
- Confidentiality contracts — Requires Himeno to sign one before negotiating access to his exam-preparation method 45.
- Electronics held as collateral — Acquires handheld consoles, laptops, and other devices from Class D buyers. Kushida later values these items at more than 200,000 Private Points 47 48.
- Financial assets — Reports total assets of approximately 450,000 Private Points after combining his exam-paper proceeds with his existing savings 47.
Relationships
- Kiyotaka Ayanokoji — Close friend, gaming companion, and frequent accomplice. Ayanokoji supplies several of Kazami’s strongest copied skills, helps obtain past exam papers, and fights alongside him against Manabu. Despite their friendship, he still cannot fit Kazami into a reliable personality model 2 34 35 42.
- Suzune Horikita — Classmate and reluctant collaborator. Their relationship consists of teasing, threats, physical retaliation, and bargaining. She accepts his assistance but rejects his strategic advice; he later pressures her into cooking his meals for a month 29 30 36.
- Kushida Kikyo — First copied-ability source and key business partner. Her contacts and bargaining make the exam-paper operation possible, and Kazami rewards her with 2,000 points. Their association becomes more dangerous when he witnesses her concealed hostility toward Horikita 1 43 47 50.
- Kamuro Masumi — Drawing teacher and frequent target of his teasing. Kazami wants drawing practice to divert her from shoplifting; she criticizes his erotic artwork but offers to lend him points when Class D struggles 17 18 31.
- Chiaki Matsushita — Friend and source of copied violin and Japanese-language skills. Kazami recognizes her concealed competence and pressures her into replacing him as Hasebe and Sakura’s tutor 13 19 40 41.
- Sakura Airi — Classmate he defends against Yamauchi’s claims. She thanks him privately and later admires his willingness to stand before the class, despite the absurdity of his leadership bid 12 21.
- Haruka Hasebe — Friend who frequently challenges his excuses and crude behavior. His classroom schemes make her worry that he might eventually use the same methods against her 14 24 41.
- Yosuke Hirata — Class organizer whose persistence persuades Kazami to help with midterm tutoring. Hirata also helps the class hear Kazami’s initial proposal, though he ultimately opposes the reckless schemes 21 23 33.
- Haruki Yamauchi, Kanji Ike, and Ken Sudo — Classmates whose jealousy, insults, and academic difficulties Kazami exploits. He sells them exam materials before Kushida distributes the same papers to Class D for free 8 46 47.
- Chabashira Sae — Homeroom teacher. She protects him from Hoshinomiya’s harassment but disciplines his defiance; Kazami suspects she wants him, Ayanokoji, and Horikita to help Class D rise 26 27.
- Chie Hoshinomiya — Teacher whose efforts to recruit him as a Class D informant fail. She later secures his help getting home while drunk by promising information about Ichinose, then closes her door without delivering it 30 31.
- Ichinose Honami — Recipient of an abrupt confession from Kazami. His interest in learning what she likes makes him susceptible to Hoshinomiya’s offer 26 30.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Establishing the “Big Brain” Reputation
Kazami’s first days at school establish public embarrassment as a resource rather than simply a setback. His nickname attracts classroom gossip, while copied abilities reveal the hidden talents of students around him. An attempt to help Kushida befriend Horikita ends with Horikita chasing and punching him after recognizing the café meeting as a setup 1 2 4 10.
Failed Bid to Lead Class D
After Class D’s points fall to zero, Kazami nominates himself as its central leader. He argues that the class has remained at the bottom because its members pull in different directions, but his proposed solutions rapidly alienate the audience 21.
| Proposal | Intended method | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Self-Destruct Tactic | Have Class D’s “Five Great Idiots” provoke other classes into losing points. | Rejected as too radical 22. |
| Extortion Tactic | Pay Yamauchi to persistently pursue girls from other classes and seek compensation for emotional distress. | Rejected because of its risks and potential to trigger interclass conflict 22 23. |
| Emotional Value Tactic | Use Hirata to provide paid emotional support and companionship. | Provokes Karuizawa’s opposition; Kazami is dragged from the podium before completing another proposal 23. |
His attempted “dynasty” ends in less than fifteen minutes, but the emotional uproar provides enough points for his Undressing War God draw 23 24.
Tutoring and the Horikita Siblings
Kazami joins Horikita’s efforts to improve the class and reluctantly accepts tutoring duties from Hirata. He later transfers Hasebe and Sakura to Matsushita so he can pursue his own plans 30 33 41.
During a late-night outing with Ayanokoji, he encounters Manabu confronting Suzune. Kazami partially undresses, lets Ayanokoji engage first, and attacks Manabu below the belt. Suzune intervenes to stop the fight. Kazami subsequently uses the threat of publicizing the incident to obtain a month of meals from her 34 35 36.
Past Exam Paper Business
Kazami helps Ayanokoji and Kushida acquire past midterm papers from an upperclassman, whose initial 50,000-point demand ultimately becomes a free handover. While Ayanokoji arranges their later distribution to Class D, Kazami obtains a copy and Kushida’s list of struggling first-years to organize private sales 42 43.
| Buyer | Documented transaction |
|---|---|
| Himeno / Class B | Initially quotes Himeno 50,000 points; Kanzaki negotiates class-wide access for 100,000 45. |
| Katsuragi / Class A | Selects Katsuragi as the negotiating partner and completes the deal after a comparatively brief discussion 45. |
| Ryuen / Class C | Uses anonymous online contact to avoid a risky face-to-face meeting. Settles at 134,358 points after prolonged haggling 45. |
| Class D buyers | Takes valuable electronics as collateral from Yamauchi, Ike, Sudo, and others 46 47. |
The operation raises Kazami’s total assets to approximately 450,000 points. When Kushida distributes the papers for free, his Class D customers confront him; he performs an indignant exit rather than admit his intentions. Their contracts prevent them from directly making trouble for him, although their hostility increases 47 48.
Discovering Kushida’s Hidden Side
Kazami follows Kushida outside, believing she may be upset about Horikita, and discovers her angrily venting in a secluded area. A ringtone interrupts his hiding, and he flees when she demands that the observer reveal himself. Kushida outlasts him in the chase and catches him by the collar; he responds by pretending they have met by coincidence 50.
