Background / History

First Life

Tang San began as an orphan in the Bashu Tang Sect. Although exceptionally talented at cultivation methods and hidden weapons, his Outer Sect status barred him from the sect’s profound inner teachings. He stole its highest cultivation methods, and his first life ended when he leapt from the cliff at Ghost Sees Sorrow 35 59.

His future self describes this exclusion as the foundation of his resentment: he believed he possessed the talent to excel but was denied opportunity because he lacked the main lineage’s blood 59.

Rebirth in Holy Soul Village

Reborn as Tang Hao and Ah Yin’s son, Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village’s blacksmith shop. Tang Hao, consumed by grief over Ah Yin and dependent on alcohol, neglected him. From the time he could walk, Tang San learned to cook, eventually caring for both himself and his father 35.

Despite this treatment, Tang San initially believed that parents could not be in the wrong. His longing for the family he had lacked in his first life made him reluctant to blame Tang Hao 17 25 35.

Personality

Young Tang San

Tang San begins Wenxin confident in his own prospects. After seeing Huo Yuhao’s future, he expects his Mysterious Heaven Skill, hidden weapons, and other techniques to carry him beyond Huo Yuhao’s achievements. He also treats Wenxin’s selection of him as evidence that his future cannot be insignificant 6.

His filial convictions weaken under direct confrontation with parental cruelty. He initially condemns Huo Yuhao and Tang Wulin for blaming their parents, then supports Tang Wulin’s determination to protect his family. Discovering that his own future self exploits his children leaves him torn between rationalization, shame, and horror 17 18 19 25.

Self-preservation dominates his confrontation with Sea God Tang San: he pleads with his future self to stop revealing incriminating schemes, fears retaliation from Yuhao and Wulin, and eventually publicly disowns him. Nevertheless, his later decision to surrender the Golden Dragon King’s potential power so his new parents can afford to eat demonstrates a genuine change in priorities 23 27 29 35.

Future Sea God Tang San

The future Tang San is calculating, possessive, and intensely concerned with maintaining authority and a righteous public image. He presents coercion as protection, suffering as necessary training, and parental obligations as debts his children can never repay 19 24 25 31.

His resentment of privileged opportunity develops into jealousy of Huo Yuhao’s destiny. Wenxin’s retrospective links his growing obsession to discovering his own exalted ancestry: after rebelling against inherited restrictions in his first life, he supports those same hierarchies once they benefit him 59.

He retains personal charisma and the loyalty of the Shrek Seven Monsters, but his concern for others remains selective. Even after admitting that loneliness hurts more than death, he immediately returns to plotting against Huo Yuhao when his companions offer support 59.

Abilities & Skills

Tang San retains access to the Tang Sect cultivation method after reincarnation and Life Exchange 6 35.

  • Continues practicing it in Tang Wulin’s body despite that body’s innate rank-three soul power 35.

  • Tang San initially hesitates to relinquish it because he wants the strength to protect his parents 35.

Dual Godhood

The future Tang San combines the Sea God and Asura God positions 20 26.

  • Uses Sea God Phantom, manifesting a giant blue figure wielding the Sea God Trident 30.
  • Switches to the Asura God Position to reinforce himself after Authentic Yuhao’s attack 30.
  • Requires Xiao Wu as the Asura Sword Sheath to unleash that position’s full power 30.
  • Both inheritances remain vulnerable to suppression by their first-generation holders, who later prevent him from interfering with the lower realm 59.

Divided Souls and Sealing

The future Tang San splits off portions of his soul to act in the lower realm 25 31.

  • Places an Eighteen-Layer Seal over the Golden Dragon King Power inside Tang Wulin 31.
  • Claims his Divided Soul protects Wulin; young Tang San instead accuses him of using it for surveillance 25.
  • Uses a Divided Soul to take custody of Wulin’s adoptive parents’ souls 31.
  • Retains a faint connection with his lower-realm Divided Soul after being reduced to a remnant soul 40.

Fate Manipulation and Long-Term Schemes

The future Tang San treats Huo Yuhao as a pawn in a ten-thousand-year plan to revive the Tang Sect 21.

  • Lowers Huo Yuhao’s innate soul power to prevent stronger factions from recruiting him before the declining Tang Sect can do so 21.
  • Interferes with Huo Yuhao and his mother’s lives, contributing to their misery 21.
  • Sends a wisp of his daughter’s soul into the lower realm and manipulates Huo Yuhao’s romantic attachments 21.
  • Steers Huo Yuhao toward the First-Level God of Emotion inheritance to prevent an independent godhood from placing him beyond control 24.
  • Uses his newborn son as bait to obtain the Golden Dragon King’s power, then sends the child to the lower realm 25.

Five God King Essences

During the battle against Authentic Yuhao and God King Tang Wulin, the future Tang San refines the five God King essences to obtain Creation Power 36.

  • Refines God King bodies into Soul Bones that replace his erased legs 36.
  • Uses the Destruction source to block another of Wulin’s sneak attacks 37.
  • Injures Authentic Yuhao with Asura Blood Sword Slash, but cannot survive their combined assault intact 37.

  • Ah Yin — Biological mother. Her loss leaves Tang Hao consumed by grief during Tang San’s childhood 35.
  • Tang Wulin’s adoptive parents — Become Tang San’s parents during Life Exchange. Their affection transforms his worldview, and he comes to insist that they are his own parents rather than merely Wulin’s 35.
  • Xiao Wu — His future self’s wife and the mother of Wutong and Wulin. Also serves as the Asura Sword Sheath and supports him after her soul is resurrected 25 30 59.
  • Tang Wutong / Xiao Qi — His future daughter, whose soul he uses in his arrangements surrounding Huo Yuhao. Young Tang San is horrified that he would exploit his own daughter 20 21.
  • Tang Wulin — His future son and fellow Wenxin participant. Young Tang San supports Wulin before learning their relationship; both young Wulin and his God King counterpart later attack versions of Tang San over their parents’ suffering 18 19 29 31.
  • Na’er — Tang San anticipates gaining Wulin’s little sister during his exchanged life and expects her eventually to become his wife. A later exchange instead leaves him alarmed by the prospect of her devouring his Golden Dragon King Power 35 37.

Allies and Enemies

  • Sea God Tang San — His future counterpart. Their confrontation ends in mutual hostility: young Tang San renounces him, while Sea God Tang San brands him an impostor and attacks him 27 28.

  • Ma Hongjun — A particularly strained ally. Confronts Tang San for leaving Chen Xiang in the lower realm despite having unused slots to bring people into the Divine Realm 47 48.
  • First Generation Sea God and First Generation Asura God — Sources of his future divine inheritances. Both turn against him and suppress his powers 59.

  • Both original gods suppress his inherited powers, cutting off further intervention in the Douluo I world 59.
  • After Wenxin exposes his first-life resentment and second-life pursuit of authority, he briefly breaks down over his loneliness. The return of Xiao Wu and his Shrek companions prompts him to resume plotting against Huo Yuhao rather than abandon that pursuit 59.
