Background and History
Village Life and Nuoding Academy
Ye Wuhen comes from Fu Niu Village and enters Nuoding Academy as a work-study student after awakening innate full soul power. His childhood memories include recurring visits to a green garden inhabited by a kindly old man, small sprites, and enormous giants. The narration explicitly states that Zhong Xuan fashioned these memories; within them, Ye Wuhen had told village adults about the garden without being taken seriously 20 41.
At the academy, he defeats Wang Sheng with Blue Silver Grass and is recognized as Dorm Seven’s boss. He refuses to manage the dormitory hierarchy but offers to help anyone who is bullied. He takes the seventh bed along the wall and leaves seven unidentified seeds on it 9.
He frequently leaves immediately after class, sometimes skips lessons, and spends nights away from the dormitory. The academy permits this because he claims to cultivate in the woods. He later admits that he is visiting the garden in dreams instead 12 21.
Rejecting Yu Xiaogang
Tang San brings Ye Wuhen to Yu Xiaogang, who assumes that innate full soul power and Blue Silver Grass must indicate twin Martial Souls. Ye Wuhen repeatedly says that he has never sensed a second Martial Soul. After hearing about the garden and examining his unusual ring, Yu Xiaogang replaces his original explanation with the theory that Ye Wuhen has received a god’s blessing 20.
Yu Xiaogang then offers to take him as a disciple. Uncomfortable with his behavior, Ye Wuhen refuses, calls him a creep, and says that Grandfather and the garden spirits would laugh at such a teacher. Yu Xiaogang collapses after coughing up blood, and Ye Wuhen slips away during the confusion 21 22.
Theft of the Seven Seeds
Tang San decides to steal Ye Wuhen’s seeds after the failed recruitment, only to discover that they are already missing. Tang Hao has taken them in the hope of restoring Ah Yin. He also considers killing Ye Wuhen to remove a potential rival to Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor awakening and possibly redirect divine favor toward his son 22.
Tang Hao initially postpones the killing because he knows too little about Ye Wuhen’s patron. Earlier attempts to locate the child in the woods had already failed despite Tang Hao’s rank-95 cultivation 22 23.
Story Role and Major Arcs
Nuoding Plague — Celestial Screen Account
The Celestial Screen presents Ye Wuhen’s disappearance and return as central clues in the destruction of Nuoding City. He disappears fourteen days after entering school, is declared dead after three days of unsuccessful searching, and receives a simple funeral from fellow work-study students. He returns after seven days and nights, covered in mud and grass 41.
According to testimony collected afterward, Tang San and Yu Xiaogang develop the plague seven hours after his return. Relevant academy teachers and students are infected by seven hours and seven minutes. Heaven Dou and Spirit Hall investigators identify both Tang San and Ye Wuhen as suspects, but ultimately regard Ye Wuhen as the probable first infected person and spreader 41.
This official reconstruction differs from Ye Wuhen’s later accusation: he says that Tang Hao and Tang San killed him and unleashed the plague by sacrificing a Soul Douluo. He demonstrates the crushing head wound caused by Tang Hao’s hammer 56 58.
Star Dou Great Forest — Celestial Screen Future
Ye Wuhen kills a Ten-Thousand-Year Emerald Swan, provoking Di Tian. “Aunt Yin,” the altered Blue Silver Emperor, protects him from Di Tian’s attack. Ye Wuhen then orders her to self-detonate and says that he will wait in the Garden of Nurgle. Tang Hao and Tang San recognize her as Ah Yin, turning their hostility toward Ye Wuhen into a personal vendetta 37.
As humans and Soul Beasts confront one another, Ye Wuhen hides nearby and considers staging a dramatic rescue to publicize Grandfather’s name. Two Blue Bird-masked visitors attempt to bargain with him to stay away from the Far North. He accepts their figurines without accepting their conditions, demands their golden dragon, and attacks when refused 41 42 43.
He then throws the Emerald Swan’s remains onto the battlefield, provokes Xiong Jun, and summons a Great Unclean One alongside an army of infected inhabitants from Nuoding City’s jurisdiction and parts of West Sea City’s jurisdiction. Disease spreads through the attacking beast tide 43 44.
With Aunt Yin’s assistance, he binds and drains the Titan Giant Ape and Sky Azure Bull Python, then opens a portal beneath them to send them toward Nurgle’s garden. He leaves after detecting Tang San nearby. Di Tian subsequently destroys the Great Unclean One left on the battlefield 49 54.
Reunion with Tang San — Celestial Screen Future
At the forest entrance, Ye Wuhen intercepts Li Ji and Ximen Yun, who escape and abandon the sack containing Yu Xiaogang. When Tang San and Flender arrive, Ye Wuhen surrounds them with plague monsters, including recognizable former acquaintances such as Wang Sheng, Su Yuntao, Martino, and Grandpa Jack 56.
He subdues Flender and torments Yu Xiaogang while taunting Tang San about his parents. Tang San’s poisoned hidden weapons and Blue Silver Entanglement fail to incapacitate him. Ye Wuhen then detects another soul within Tang San’s body and questions whether he has taken possession of it 57 58 59. Yu Xiaogang later recalls that Flender died at Ye Wuhen’s hands while attempting to save him 62.
Ye Wuhen returns to the Garden of Nurgle through a ring portal but discovers that Tang San has vanished during transit. He suspects Grandfather’s intervention. His subsequent daemonic transformation is interrupted by a vast invisible hand soothing him like a child, and Nurgle turns Luo Sanpao into a Rotting Dragon for him to ride 59 60.
Appearance
- Childhood appearance: Blue hair with subtly green tips and emerald-green eyes 9.
- Martial Soul: Blue-and-green Blue Silver Grass, larger and more imposing than Tang San’s grass during their early comparison 9 20.
- Altered body: Greenish blood, flesh capable of swallowing embedded weapons, and a head that can collapse into an old injury and subsequently regain its shape 56 57 58.
- Moth wings: Green, rotting wings emerge from his back in the forest; his later transformation produces enormous, tattered wings accompanied by poisonous mist and flies 49 60.
Personality
Initially, Ye Wuhen appears indifferent and aloof. Tang San comes to interpret this reserve as the protective shell of a socially anxious six-year-old rather than genuine coldness. His early offer to protect bullied dormmates contrasts with his lack of interest in authority or dormitory politics 9 21.
In the depicted future, his attachment to Nurgle coexists with extreme cruelty. He treats powerful Soul Beasts as prospective pets, enjoys the despair of trapped combatants, and describes spreading plague as sharing Grandfather’s love. He remains childishly eager for toys, praise, mounts, and his garden companions’ admiration. Yu Tiansheng describes him as a child spoiled rotten by Nurgle and exploits that behavior to redirect his attention toward the Soul Beasts 41 42 43 44.
Abilities and Skills
Mutated Blue Silver Grass
His Martial Soul combines ordinary-looking Blue Silver Grass with unusual size, coloration, and strength. Tang Hao identifies it as Blue Silver King 9 20 22.
- Uses blades as whips and manipulates belongings remotely 9.
- Restrains Flender during their confrontation 57.
- Receives battlefield information through scattered stalks 41.
- With Aunt Yin’s help, binds and drains two Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts; he admits that controlling them alone would be difficult at Soul Emperor level 49.
Concealment
His Blue Silver Grass protects and conceals him, which he attributes to Grandfather’s wish that he remain unharmed 21.
- Escapes Tang San’s pursuit after entering a grove 12.
- Evades Tang Hao’s searches despite the latter being a rank-95 Titled Douluo 22.
- Watches the forest battlefield without being detected by Chrysanthemum Douluo or nearby Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts 41.
Nurgle Daemon Army
Ye Wuhen expands his six Soul Rings into enormous gateways to deploy Nurgle’s forces 44.
- Infected soldiers: Summons former plague victims from Nuoding and neighboring affected territory 44.
- Plague transmission: His forces spread disease through the beast tide 44.
- Great Unclean One: Summons a powerful companion whose manifested body is only seven meters tall, far smaller than its mountain-sized form in the summoning space. Ye Wuhen attributes this reduced manifestation to his own limited power 44.
- Limits: Di Tian ultimately destroys the Great Unclean One. Ye Wuhen also says that the other three Chaos Gods prevent Nurgle’s plague from freely claiming the whole forest 49 54.
Altered Physiology and Recovery
His body remains functional despite injuries that would normally be fatal 56 57 58.
- Restores his deliberately collapsed head 57.
- Continues speaking after poisoned needles pierce his throat, then removes them by hand 58.
- Absorbs other embedded weapons into his flesh 58.
- Withers Tang San’s Blue Silver Entanglement on contact and withstands plague-derived poison 58.
- Claims to have been killed previously; his return leads Ning Fengzhi to suspect a resurrection ability, but its precise rules are not established 45 58.
Garden Portals
Grandfather grants him direct passage to the Garden of Nurgle through portals formed from his Soul Rings 49 59.
- Transports enormous captives and accompanying plague creatures 49 59.
- Passes through the Warp during the journey 59.
- Does not fully control the transit: Tang San disappears en route, leaving Ye Wuhen to speculate about divine interference 59.
Perception of Divine and Soul Anomalies
- Infers the attention of four gods from abnormal growth, decay, and colored light around Yu Xiaogang’s flesh 57.
- Detects another soul within Tang San and questions him about body possession 58 59.
Equipment and Items
- Seven unidentified seeds — Kept on his dormitory bed and stolen by Tang Hao, who believes they can save Ah Yin. Their species and exact properties are not established 9 22.
- Three figurines — Models of two of Nurgle’s creatures and Ye Wuhen himself, offered by the shorter Blue Bird-masked visitor during the unsuccessful Far North bargain 43.
- Rotting Dragon mount — Luo Sanpao transformed by Nurgle and ridden by Ye Wuhen in the garden 60.
Relationships
- Nurgle / Grandfather — Divine patron whom he treats as a loving grandfather, not an established biological relative. Grants him protection, an army, and access to the garden 21 42 59.
- Ah Yin / Aunt Yin — Altered Blue Silver Emperor who shields him and helps capture powerful Soul Beasts. He expresses gratitude toward her while also using her self-detonation as a weapon 37 49.
- Tang San — Former roommate and eventual enemy. Their conflict escalates from jealousy and attempted seed theft to torture, retaliation, and Tang San’s vow to destroy Nurgle’s garden 21 22 58 71.
- Tang Hao — Steals his seeds and considers murdering him; Ye Wuhen later identifies him as the source of his crushing hammer injury 22 56.
- Yu Xiaogang — Rejected would-be teacher who later becomes his captive and victim in the Celestial Screen’s future 21 57 59.
- Wang Sheng — Defeated dormmate who recognizes him as boss; later appears among his plague creatures 9 56.
- Yu Tiansheng — Rival connected to Tzeentch who manipulates Ye Wuhen’s desire for a dragon to divert him toward Soul Beast targets 43 44.
- Di Tian — Enemy provoked by the Emerald Swan’s death; later destroys Ye Wuhen’s summoned Great Unclean One 37 54.
- Qian Daoliu — Regards him as an evil god’s inheritor and advocates killing him before he can attain godhood 42.
