Background / History

Childhood and Priest’s Guardianship

According to Bi Shuo’s account, Fallen Soul Masters attacked his village the day after his Martial Soul Awakening. They slaughtered its inhabitants and beheaded the Spirit Hall deacon who had performed the awakening. A man calling himself Priest saved Bi Shuo and killed the attackers with his bare hands, without visibly using a Martial Soul or Soul Power 18.

Bi Shuo remained with Priest out of gratitude and hoped to become his disciple. Priest refused, saying only, “I’m not worthy,” but continued raising him. They lived largely overseas, returning to the continent only briefly. When Bi Shuo reached level 66, Priest disappeared without a farewell. Bi Shuo searched unsuccessfully before returning to the continent 18.

Return and Reunion with Bibi Dong

On the Celestial Screen, Bi Shuo intervenes to protect Hu Liena, citing Spirit Hall’s help with his awakening and the stipend he had received. He fights Xie Guhong alongside Dugu Feng, but Xie Guhong redirects their attacks, breaking Bi Shuo’s defensive shield and three spider legs 14 15 16.

After the confrontation, Bi Shuo introduces himself to Qian Daoliu and Gui Mei. His account of the village massacre leads Qian Daoliu to apologize personally for Spirit Hall’s failure to protect its people 17 18.

Hu Liena subsequently brings him to meet Bibi Dong. Their resemblance and shared Martial Soul accompany a mutual recognition that they are blood relatives, though the passage leaves their precise kinship uncertain. Bi Shuo accepts her as his elder sister, recognizes her emotional wounds, and kneels to swear that he will protect and accompany her as her only family 19.

The Sons of Glory and the Beast Tide

Bi Shuo becomes the leader of the Sons of Glory, an association of Spirit Hall Academy graduates who voluntarily follow him. With the Papal Hall’s tacit approval, its membership grows beyond 500. For his campaign against Fallen and criminal Soul Masters, he takes thirty-six elite members organized into six squads and personally trains them in military tactics 39.

During the Star Dou Great Forest beast tide, he raises the Angel banner and calls scattered Soul Masters to rally beneath it. He orders successive defensive lines, incorporates refugees into organized teams, and prioritizes holding out for reinforcements. While the squads establish their positions, he and Yue Guan attack the advancing beasts 38 39.

Bi Shuo later attempts to negotiate with the powerful soul beasts and urges cooperation in hunting Ye Wuhen. As the expedition’s prospects deteriorate, however, he hears whispers accusing him of failing his followers and falling short of perfection. His eyes and the gemstone in his sword emit an eerie purple light before he abruptly regains awareness 40 41 42.

The Plague and His Sister’s Double Standard

Bi Shuo’s followers track down infected survivors who escaped a sealed zone. Unable to save them, he chooses to kill them to protect other civilians. He carries out the task alone, both to spare his followers the danger and to personally bear responsibility for the killings 76.

Bibi Dong’s protection of the infected Yu Xiaogang creates a crisis in his loyalty. Her warning that she will not spare Bi Shuo if he harms Yu Xiaogang clashes with his belief that Spirit Hall must protect ordinary people. When ordered to attack Li Shaobai and Xiao Wu, he sees a painful contradiction: he is expected to strike down someone protecting a loved one while leaving his sister’s dangerous favoritism unchallenged 76 77 78.

Duel with Li Shaobai

Rather than kill the immobilized Li Shaobai, Bi Shuo persuades Yue Guan and Gui Mei to release their Martial Soul Fusion Skill. He challenges Li Shaobai and promises to authorize his departure if he wins. Privately, Bi Shuo resolves to correct his sister’s mistakes regardless of the outcome 78 79.

Their initial swordsmanship contest favors Bi Shuo, and Li Shaobai’s ordinary Soul Skills cannot seriously injure him. The fight escalates as supernatural blood-red power strengthens both combatants, eventually raising their auras to Titled Douluo level. Priest watches from afar, describes the encounter as a game of the Chaos Gods, and calls Bi Shuo a future Daemon Prince 79 80.

The duel ends when Li Shaobai uses his self-created Five-Finger Fist-Heart Sword. A momentary flood of troubling memories delays Bi Shuo’s response, allowing the attack to strike his chest. Blood light immediately heals the wound, but he loses consciousness and falls; Gui Mei catches him and confirms that he is physically uninjured 82 83.

Defiance of Bibi Dong

After awakening, Bi Shuo rejects his followers’ attempts to excuse the result: “A loss is a loss.” He praises Li Shaobai, accepts his warning about the Purple-Silver Sword, and offers to escort him and Xiao Wu away 84.

Bibi Dong intervenes and forbids their departure. Bi Shuo shields Li Shaobai’s group, insists on honoring his promise, and begs his sister to correct her mistakes. Her Soul Power forces him to one knee and makes him cough blood. When he declares that he will kill the person she is seeking, Yue Guan knocks him unconscious to prevent the confrontation from escalating further 85.

His example continues to influence the Sons of Glory while he is unconscious. Ruila refuses to participate in the attack, condemning Bibi Dong for violating Bi Shuo’s honor. Bibi Dong responds by crippling Ruila’s tongue and demanding obedience 87.

These Celestial Screen events are distinct from the present-day reactions to them. Bibi Dong initially has no Spirit Hall records of Bi Shuo, but accepts the possibility that she still has family. Gui Mei and Yue Guan investigate village massacres, while Hu Liena arranges an overseas search for him. Qian Daoliu also considers looking for him during a visit to Sea God Island 17 19 24 39.

Priest’s later appearance as a self-proclaimed servant of the Chaos Gods raises concern about Bi Shuo’s upbringing and possible connection to those powers 69.

Appearance

Bi Shuo closely resembles Bibi Dong, with an unusually beautiful face and a bearing repeatedly associated with elegance and perfection 18 19.

  • Hair: Long and purple; he ties it into a high ponytail after the fight with Xie Guhong 17.
  • Eyes: Purple, compared to gemstones; they glow eerily during episodes involving his sword 19 42 76.
  • Clothing and grooming: Wears purple-and-gold clothing and takes care to restore his makeup and hair after combat 17 40 84.
  • Martial Soul Possession: Black carapace covers his body, and his lower half becomes a spider with eight legs. His face remains unchanged, creating a striking contrast between his graceful upper body and monstrous lower body 14.

Personality

Bi Shuo’s ideal is to defend what is beautiful, sincere, and flawless. His gratitude toward Spirit Hall comes from its practical aid to commoners: free Martial Soul awakenings, stipends, and action against Fallen Soul Masters. He tries to repay that aid through protection rather than merely professing allegiance 16 77.

He combines compassion with a willingness to accept morally painful duties. His decision to kill infected survivors is accompanied by grief, and he refuses to expose his followers to the same danger. In battle, he remains focused on organizing survivors and preserving lives even when stronger allies doubt that escape is possible 39 76.

His pursuit of perfection also makes him vulnerable to self-reproach. He envies Li Shaobai’s freedom to act on his convictions and becomes increasingly distressed by the gap between his own principles and his loyalty to Bibi Dong. Nevertheless, he accepts defeat without excuses and ultimately places his promise above obedience to his sister 78 82 84 85.

Swordsmanship

Despite lacking a Sword Martial Soul, Bi Shuo possesses swordsmanship that impresses Chen Xin 80.

  • Fights with nimble, graceful movements compared to an elegant noble’s dance 79.
  • Wins an exchange against Li Shaobai without either combatant using Soul Power or Soul Skills 79.
  • Can wield his Purple-Silver Sword and Death Spider Scythe simultaneously 39.

  • Integrates fleeing Soul Masters into coordinated formations 39.
  • Teaches followers to pursue glory in battle and remain faithful to their convictions 87.

External Empowerment and Chaos Influence

Bi Shuo’s supernatural enhancement is separate from his documented cultivation 80 82.

  • Blood-red power grants apparently inexhaustible Soul Power and temporary Titled Douluo-level strength 80.
  • He continues fighting within Yue Guan and Gui Mei’s Two Extremes Stillness Domain 80.
  • The Lord of the Skull Throne’s blood light heals his chest wound, but does not prevent his collapse 82 83.
  • Priest calls him a future Daemon Prince; the supplied events do not show him attaining that state 80.
  • Purple light from his sword accompanies whispers and altered awareness, but Bi Shuo does not demonstrate conscious control over these effects 42 76.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Purple-Silver Sword — An ornate longsword with a purple gemstone in its hilt, given to him by his rescuer and carried for over twenty years. Its gemstone emits eerie light and purple stardust during his disturbances. Li Shaobai explicitly warns him that the weapon feels unsettling 39 42 79 84.
  • Angel banner — A great banner embroidered with the Angel God’s statue, used to rally survivors during the beast tide 39.

Relationships

  • Bibi Dong — Acknowledged elder sister and blood relative. His oath to protect her becomes a source of conflict when her actions contradict his principles 19 77 85.
  • Priest — Rescuer and guardian, but never formally his master. Priest raises him overseas, gives him his sword, and later identifies him as a prospective Daemon Prince 18 79 80.
  • Hu Liena — A beneficiary of his protection who introduces him to Bibi Dong and organizes the present-day search for him. Bibi Dong proposes an engagement, but none is established in the supplied events 17 19 24 77.
  • Qian Daoliu — An admirer of his character who apologizes for his childhood tragedy and considers him a possible future Pope, subject to Qian Renxue’s wishes 18 39 42.
  • Yue Guan — An affectionate senior who supports his battlefield command and duel agreement. He later protects Bi Shuo from Bibi Dong’s pressure before knocking him unconscious to stop further escalation 39 78 84 85.
  • Gui Mei — A supportive senior who agrees to release Li Shaobai for the duel, catches Bi Shuo after his defeat, and initially accepts his decision to honor the result 78 83 84.
  • Li Shaobai — Opponent whose convictions Bi Shuo admires and envies. Their duel ends in mutual respect, with Li Shaobai warning him about his sword 76 82 84.
  • Sons of Glory — Voluntary followers who regard him as their spiritual leader. Ruila defies Bibi Dong rather than violate the honor Bi Shuo taught them to uphold 39 87.
