Outside the Pope's Palace, the sky looked as gloomy as if it were about to collapse.
The palace doors were tightly shut, and on the two heavy, gilded giant doors, the emblem of Spirit Hall cast a cold light in the gloom.
In the plaza outside the doors, people stood densely packed.
Guards, soul masters, and arriving bishops, and even those Titled Douluo powerhouses, numbering in the hundreds, were dead silent.
No one dared to whisper to each other, and even their breathing was kept extremely low.
Hu Liena stood below the steps, clenching her fists.
Behind her, Xie Yue and Yan stood on the left and right, their complexions both pale as sinking ash.
"We can't wait any longer." Hu Yuena lowered her voice, her gaze sweeping across those silent bishops. "It's been almost half an hour. If this goes on..."
"I know." Xie Yue cut her off.
Of course he knew.
She could not hear the slightest commotion inside the palace, but that soul power oppression seeping through the door cracks...
Like a dormant giant beast, it made his spine turn cold in waves.
The Six Great Enshrined, plus that powerhouse with the Angel Martial Soul-this lineup was enough to crush half of Spirit Hall.
And their teacher, Bibi Dong, stood alone behind that door at this moment.
"His Holiness the Pope won't be okay." Yan gritted his teeth, as if trying to persuade himself. "How could the people of the Worship Hall dare to casually dispose of the Pope?"
Hu Liena did not reply.
She stared at that door, took a deep breath, and suddenly stepped forward.
"Nana!" Xie Yue grabbed her wrist. "What are you doing?"
"I'm going to knock on the door." Hu Liena's voice was frighteningly calm. "I can't let Teacher be alone..."
"Are you crazy?" Xie Yue lowered his voice, nearly roaring. "Inside are the Six Great Enshrined! What can you do by going in?"
Hu Liena stopped.
She knew Xie Yue spoke the truth; with her strength, she didn't even have the qualification to step through that door.
Yet she still felt unwilling.
Immediately, Hu Liena released Xie Yue's hand, turned around, and faced the hundreds of pairs of eyes in the plaza.
She walked up the steps step by step, standing before everyone.
The wind swept across the plaza in front of the palace, and she looked at those bishops, at those head guards, and at those soul masters who usually showed the utmost respect to the Pope.
Even including the Titled Douluo powerhouses who held the rank of elders.
"Everyone." Her voice was not loud, but it clearly carried out. "His Holiness the Pope is currently inside the palace, surrounded and trapped by the Six Great Enshrined. All of you are people personally promoted by Her Holiness."
No one spoke.
Hu Liena's gaze landed on Demon Bear Douluo. "Elder Demon Bear, you are the strongest among us. You should be able to rescue the Pope."
As her words ended.
Hearing this, Demon Bear Douluo lowered his head, his lips moving, not daring to make a sound at all.
He lead the charge in?
Was he crazy? Just a Spirit Hall elder, what kind of desperate gamble was this?
Could he not know what kind of monstrous flood and fierce beasts were inside?
Besides.
For the Qian Family, the Angel Martial Soul was the true orthodoxy of Spirit Hall.
All of this prompted Demon Bear Douluo to stand rigidly right there.
He did not dare to move.
Naturally, no one else up and down Spirit Hall dared to move anymore.
Hu Liena waited three breaths, a hint of chilliness growing in her voice. "His Holiness the Pope is in critical danger. Is really no one willing to go in with me?"
The plaza was quiet enough to hear the sound of the wind.
Still no one moved.
Hu Liena looked toward a young bishop. That bishop made contact with her gaze, his knees went soft, and with a thud, he knelt down.
"Holy Maiden... It's not that we don't want to save her, it's..."
"What is it?"
"It's the Six Great Enshrined!" That bishop's voice trembled. "And that powerhouse with the Angel Martial Soul... If we go in, we won't even withstand a single move!"
The miraculous omen earlier where the Angel Martial Soul Statue enveloped the entire Pope's Palace.
Everyone had seen it clearly and with trembling fear.
How could this make them dare to go in?
Hu Liena stared at him without speaking.
When she looked again at the other surrounding soul masters, more people knelt down in fear.
"Holy Maiden, please don't force us..."
"Shut up!"
Hu Liena suddenly turned her head, her gaze like a knife. "You tell me, what does His Holiness the Pope need right now? Is it for you to kneel here, or for you to stand behind her?"
As her voice fell, a third person, a fourth person, one after another, people knelt down.
Hu Liena watched the people kneeling before her grow more and more numerous, her complexion turning pale inch by inch.
She called out to one, and one knelt.
She named a person, and that person lowered their head once.
It was not that these people were disloyal.
It was that they knew all too well that standing behind those doors were Spirit Hall's six Titled-Douluo-level enshrined, plus an Angel Inheritor whose pressure was no less than that of the Great Enshrined.
That was not a gap courage could make up for; that was walking to one's death.
"Fine." Hu Liena's voice turned angry as she looked at the patch of kneeling people before her. "You don't dare, I don't blame you."
She turned around and faced that door.
"But I am different. That is my teacher."
Xie Yue came up from behind, standing beside her without speaking, merely silently drawing that Moon Blade.
Yan also walked up, flames igniting on his double fists, and without speaking, he stood on her other side.
Hu Liena glanced at them, her eye sockets growing hot, yet she forcefully suppressed it.
"You two."
"Don't talk nonsense." Xie Yue cut her off. "I only have one younger sister."
Yan did not look at her, simply staring at that door. "I also only have one teacher."
Hu Liena spoke no more. She took a deep breath and walked toward the gilded giant doors.
Right at the moment she raised her hand, preparing to touch the door surface.
The door opened from within.
A ray of light poured out from the crack, making Hu Liena squint slightly.
The door opened completely.
Qian Chenming stood at the doorway with his hands behind his back, his expression so calm it didn't look like he had just experienced a fierce battle.
Sunlight drifted in from behind him, plating his entire figure with a pale golden outline, like a divine statue walking down from the altar.
Hu Liena's hand stopped mid-air, freezing.
Behind Qian Chenming, Golden Crocodile Douluo slowly paced out, his gaze sweeping across the soul masters kneeling in a patch over the plaza, and he let out a cold snort, his voice like a booming bell:
"What are you all kneeling for? Get up."
No one dared to move.
Golden Crocodile Douluo did not mind either. He stopped at Qian Chenming's side, his tone unhurried, yet every word clear:
"Spirit Hall Pope Bibi Dong assassinated former Pope Qian Xunji with conclusive evidence. Following deliberation, her position as Pope is stripped away immediately, and she is cast into the Spirit Hall dungeon to await judgment."
As his voice fell.
The plaza fell into a deathly stillness.
Three breaths later, an uproar exploded.
"His Holiness the Pope killed His Holiness Qian Xunji?"
"That's her husband!"
"Impossible, how could this be?"
The discussions surged up like a tide, yet collided with an invisible wall, extinguishing one after another wherever Golden Crocodile Douluo's gaze swept.
Hu Liena stood at the very front, her face ashen, her lips trembling slightly.
She heard her own voice, drifting as if from a very distant place: "You said, Teacher killed Qian Xunji?"
